Somebody keeps calling me from this number 1-877-809-8533 saying he is from Sallie Mae. He calls me 2-3 times a day. He won't stop.

This is in fact Sallie May collections calling. They are calling the number that someone had listed on their student loans. I originally freaked out because I have Sallie May loans but I'm still in school.
I spoke with a gentleman and he asked me several questions. I simply said "I am a current student, my loans are in good standing, so your not calling about me because my account is listed under a different phone number."  He advised me he would remove the number.
I got more calls, called back and spoke with a nice lady, explained the situation, just got a new number and the loan was not in my name (a previous phone call identified the person they were calling for). She advised me the account was listed more than once, multiple loans in default I assume, and that I would no longer be getting calls.

Just pick up the phone if you don't owe them any money and tell them it's not you. Took five minutes of my day and fixed my problem completely.

I don't even have an account with Sallie Mae.  I didn't know anything about the company until I Googled it.  Funny how everyone is getting the same exact message.  One time I answered the call not knowing who it was and they hung up.  If they really wanted to talk to me...hmm, a bit suspicious!

I have co-signed an account with Sallie Mae for my granddaughter.  As far as I know, from the statements from Sallie Mae, this account is being paid by my daughter in a timely manner.  I, too, send everything to voice mail.  Messages were from Kelly Thomas and Ryan Painter to call back at 877-809-8533. After reading all the above messages, I will call Sallie Mae at 888-272-5543 directly to find out about this debt collection from General  Revenue Corp.  Never give out a ss#.  They should only ask for last 4 digits for varification.  I do agree that it looks as if Sallie Mae's data base has been compromised.

3 months ago I got a landline from Charter Communications, in St. Charles, MO, and receive daily phone calls with this same message from Sally Mae.  Apparently the  person who had the telephone number previously has an outstanding student loan.  This is a legitimate collection call.  Student loan default is a major problem due to the current economy.

This seems to be a legit business, but have been receiving calls in error for someone I do not know. Three weeks ago I contacted them to stop calling my number. This worked well until last night when I came home to a 5 minute message from Sally Mae about "how I need to act quick as they may not be able to do tomorrow what can be done today." Called them back and received the welcome of "WHAT!?" After trying to chastise the lady answering the phone for her lack of etiquette, I was hung up on. I called back and asked to speak with a manager, and was put on hold for ten minutes. The manager answered the phone in a very non interested manner, and  after explaining my situation, I was told that he could hang up anytime. At this point I figured I'd cut my losses and told the fella in a not so nice way to pound sand. This happened in what I would consider a 2nd shift enviroment, and I am quite certain the 'kids' answering the phone could give a damn about who is calling them, unless they are sending money in. Long story short, I change my phone number and plan on calling today when I might get a hold of someone who will take this seriously. Fingers crossed, but not expecting much.

Hey, idiots, it is not a scam! Too many people are delinquent so automated messages help filter inventory. If you don't return the call you will continue receiving calls, eventually be reported to the credit bureau, and if you go too far past due you will be subject to lawsuits, wage garnishing, and possibly credit counseling as well. So just call back and pay your bill!

If you owe a student loan, call the number on the legitimate paperwork you have already received...ONLY!
NEVER return a call to an unverified source..EVER!
Buffoons like "Collector" here are counting on you to fall for there tactics. Do you think they're trying to "help" you? Think again!
It's simple to know who to call if you owe, or are delinquent, on a student loan. You have a ton of paperwork already, and the legitimate numbers are easily available. Call them, but verify who you're calling first. Do NOT return a call because someone on a robo-call says you have to!
Pay your debts, but ONLY to the people that you KNOW to be legitimate!
That's pretty simple and to the point, isn't it "Collector"?
    Be Safe. Be Aware.

after getting 1 call yesterday and 3 calls today as shown on my caller ID (I don't bother to pick up calls from people I don't know) when they called the FOURTH time, I picked it up to do just that. Surprise (not really) just a recorded message saying call Sallie Mae at this # (it does not leave this as a message if you DON'T pick up).

Sounds like if you call back you only get a hang up or ANOTHER recorded message. <sigh>
How do you make it stop!

I have never had a student loan,  nor do I have kids who have student loans.

    I will echo amanda ...

If you are going to set up automated dialing programs set to annoy people multiple times a day - AT LEAST MAKE SURE YOU HAVE AN ACCURATE # OF SOMEONE WITH A LOAN!  I have run into the problem of getting an expired cell number of someone who apparently had a lot of uncollected debt. (used to get calls from her drug dealer too!)  But I've had the phone # they are calling for over 20 years - no one here has ever had a loan with them.

Was told to call back at this number for Sallie Mae, to whom I've had student loans with. I stayed on the lines through a couple of automated messages and was able to speak to someone. Was suspicious at first, but they knew things that only Sallie Mae should know with regards to my business with them.
So unless Sallie Mae got crazy hacked or something, this is Sallie Mae. I mean I might call the other number I have for Sallie Mae and see if they have documentation (because they usually keep notes from the last time they talked to you) from my conversation with the representative I just talked to.

Also received an automated message from Sallie Mae to call them. I have never heard of them so I called them to ask them to remove me from their list. After two people hanging up on me, I finally got a decent person to remove me since they had the wrong number. They insisted that I give them my social security number and I politely refused and told them to look up the account by the phone number they were calling... hopefully this will end all of the after 8 pm phone calls I have been getting.

This happened to me at work today!  Phone call originated from 317-348-9984.  I had called the 877# foolishly and gave them my social - stupid me!  Only then did I think to google this #.  Feel so stupid.

I was called on Saturday, after Sallie Mae's (now Navient's) offices are closed. The voicemail left asked me to call 877 809 8533.

When I called the number, a recording immediately asked me to enter my SSN. I entered all "1"s. Someone picked up - a young girl working in what sounded like a call center. I hung up.

I called Navient. They said there's no reason anyone should've called me, I'm not late on anything.

I called the number again and asked to speak to a supervisor. I did not give them my SSN of course. I told them I suspected the call was a scam. "It's not a scam, but I'll connect you with customer service. Please hold." I was connected to the main customer service number at Navient, which is the one I initially called to find no reason I should be called.

If it's not a scam, it's a group within the company operating off of incomplete data.

I received a call today from someone on my answering machine asking me to call 877 809-8533.  This cannot be legit.  The speed of the call,  lack of information, the total  lack of professionalism reeks of a scam.  I've been in Credit and Collections for 30 years and if this was a real collection call or a rep for Sallie Mae somebody needs to be let go.
