- Anonymous from Kerman, CaIt's a scam.
- James FarrellThis number is blowing up every member of my family ( how they got their numbers is a mystery) tell them this a fraud case against me.
Someone needs to stop them...before some elderly person falls for it. - Anonamous| 5 repliesThey claim to be from Briar, Hill, Tomlinson & Associates. They claim to be an attorney's office that is representing someone pay day loan service, but they can't give any legal information or court information, since it hasn't been processed through the courts. They also won't give any information to me, only to my lawyer. This is just a scam. There is no record on the internet for them. They have claimed to have a civil case pending for some online payday loan from EP Processing Group. They have some information, but nothing is valid. They are a call center. You can hear the people talking in the back ground. The things they say is the same thing over and over again. These calls have been happening for a few months now, and they are at the same spot. Nothing has been filed in any court. They are just fishing and trying to scare you. It's a scam

- Anonymous, ILI got a call from a guy from "Briar, Hill, Tomlin & Associates" today (I googled them and they don't exist). He said that he was calling on behalf of Insight Capital, LLC about a loan I took out a few years back. Said the total was $400+ and that to settle I need to pay today. Funny thing is, I got a call from a different company/number/scammer yesterday saying they were calling on behalf of this Insight company. So when I started questioning him and told him to send documents via email, he said ok and then said he will call back. Still have yet to receive documents or call back. It is so sad that people scam and take money from people that work hard for a living! And the scary part is that they had the last 4 of my social and everything! Be careful people!

- GeRodOn Thursday June 11, 2015 I received a call from 443-906-6203 which I ignored. I later returned the call to see what it was in reference to and I spoke with a Miss Carter who told me that I owed for a pay day loan that I had taken out back a few years ago with Canyon Creek for $500. I of course was confused because I have NEVER heard of that company nor have I ever received any pay day loan in the amount of $500 (I have received some for $300, which were repaid). I politely asked Miss Carter if she could email me verification of this loan which I told her should contain the following: Date and amount of original loan, how loan was obtained (internet vs. walk in), the original lender, and the ACH banking information to where the money was sent. Miss Carter told me that she would send this debt verification to me and I told her that once I did receive it, that I would give her a call back which is when Miss Carter then provided me with her "direct" number 877-822-9209 x: 319. The following day Friday June 12th around mid afternoon, I noticed that I had not yet received any email from this company and I gave Miss Carter a call. I reached her and I told her that I hadn't yet received any emails yet and I could not respond until I have the required proof of a debt owed by me. Miss Carter placed me on hold for a few short minutes and when she came back to the phone assured me that an email will be sent out. I thanked her and again reassured her that once I received this email that I will give her a call back to discuss the matter further.
Today is Thursday June 17, 2015 and to date I have not received any information from this company AND for the past few days, the 877-822-9209 and 443-906-6203 phone numbers are "not currently set up to receive calls". This goes to prove that this was/is a scam and if anyone else out there who reads this and gets a call from either of these two numbers and pays them...then shame on you, you have been warned!- Call type: Debt collector

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans
Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010 FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691
The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.
According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.
The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers. - kay m. replies to Tamianth| 1 replyI had previously wrote a reply about the caller in the name of michelle Davis from briar, hill,Tomlin and associates.877-822-9207. ext 309.They had threatened me as a felon, and I had a court date.If I go to. court it will be 3000 dollars.being a senior citizen I was scared and paid them 100 dollars on June 11,2015.I was crying I am on a fixed income.I received another phone call on my cell phone from michelle Davis coming up unknown on my phone.the # was different.she left a message that the100 dollars she expected did not clear the debit.unfortunately I had given them the first 100 from this card.I have since cancelled the card.now they left a message saying if I don't make good of the payment they will call my employer which I only work 3 hours a day.I will wait and see what happens.any suggestions?
- Alfalfa replies to kay m.Let your employer know that you are being targeted by an extortion scam. Print off this thread and give it to them.
This is (one of many) criminal extortion scams that have been going on for years. Many are operating overseas and out of the reach of US law enforcement, while others are operating within the confines of prison cells here in the US, using contraband cell phones. Others are using VOIP. Either way, they are able to disguise their identities and locations, making them next to impossible to prosecute. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting victims' personal identifying information and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.
