called my home number and asked for my son by name claiming that his debit card was compromised and must call back at this number. However, the caller ID shows PNC and telephone number 412-565-4255. I called the number and the person answered goes by the name of Luke. He would n't discuss the call for my son with me. I informed him that I am suspecious of the call and he said I understand and let him call the bank number on the bank of the card. My son checked and there was fraudulent use of his account. It must be a scam. My advice is go the bank and check on your account. Do not give anyone any personal information over the phone. Incidentally, my home number is not even associated with my son's bank account.

Man asked for my husband & said they'd detected fraudulent activity on his debit card.  Wouldn't speak to me even though we have joint accounts.  Left this # for him to call back.  I just felt like this was a fraudulent call & decided to check out this number.  We receive so many of these type calls!

Recieved a voicemail and they said it was PNC card protection.  I called them back - they asked for a lot of information I was not comfortable giving.  I called bank and it was fraud prevention who had called to check on an overseas transaction

Received a voice message on our business phone left by a woman saying there was fraudulent activity on our debit card, she gave 4 digit #, and to call 877-841-9125 immediately. We do not have any debit cards, so googled the phone number and found the comments here, so did not call back.

I had received an email from PNC Bank asking me to contact this number to talk about suspicious banking activity on my debit card. I talked to a lady and gave her all the relevant information following which, she canceled my card to protect my account. It was only after doing so that I felt suspicious about the number which brought me here. I decided to check my online banking account and found that PNC records every alert they send to you, and found that this was a legit alert. Phew!

Legit, went in to PNC branch and they had it on record as cancelling my account. Got my new debit card after they printed while I waited.

Never call this or any number not on the PNC website.  Your bank should never ask for your credit card number as an account id.  Want proof - call PNC and ask the rep who answers for their credit card number.  PNC is aware of this issue but refuses to address it despite paying CEO Billy Demchak over $12 million a year.

    ADVISORY

    Readers:
    Be Safe, Not Sorry
Rather than believe the posts in this thread, or the words of an anonymous caller,
if you are notified of a problem with your card,

CALL THE NUMBER ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARD

Even though the number in this thread might belong to your card issuer, the scammers can easily spoof what appears on your CallerID, and attempt to get your precious ID and card data!

    https://www.fcc.gov/consumers/guides/spoofing-and-caller-id

Read the above again, for understanding!

    Be Safe, Not Sorry!

YOU SHOULD CALL THE NUMBER ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARD

Now, let us see how many posts are made after this one, that ignore the advisory and try to claim that, since their call was or was not "legitimate", yours must be too.

Received a text about 2 charges for $1.00 in a different state claiming to be PNC fraud detection.  I texted N back stating those charges were false.  They texted back saying to call this number immediately.  Shortly after that I got a call from North Carolina in which I blocked and got a voice mail stating to call them immediately.  Checked the PNC APP for both accounts and the charges they claimed happened were not on either account.  Also they got the last 4 digits of my card wrong.  Do not call back.  Reporting this to PNC as well.

Called PNC after returning this call on my cell phone and reading these somewhat mixed reviews on the phone number. PNC confirmed this is one of their numbers, this is not fraudulent. It is PNC Loss Prevention.

Received call from this number saying my PNC ATM card had been compromised.  While nobody has used my card number yet, the bank could tell my info had been stolen by a skimmer placed on an ATM I had used within the past couple of months.  The bank is sending its customers new ATM/debit cards, with chips imbedded, which supposedly are not able to be compromised by skimmers.  PNC cancelled by card and is sending me a new one.

I contacted customer service and reported a rather large charge that I did not make on my statement. I was told the account is cancelled and I am to wait until the amount clears. They will then start dealing with it and recouping my money. I had 3 calls from 877-841-9125 this afternoon. I did check out the number but did not call.
