They use to give you pleanty of notice because of that. The new meters (I got one) all they have to do is hit a computer keyboard and they shut it off via satilite in an instant. They shut it off even if you a minute late now. That's why they're so eger to get it changed and are calling alot. It's a subcontractor changing out the meters called "Accu read."

You're just trying to get people upset, not from DTE.  Don't you have anything better to do with your time?

A responsible company, with any customer service ethics at all should leave a message if they are on the level.

This is a scam I am on the phone with DTE right this minute.

There was a message left on our machine saying the caller was Victoria from  DTE & they  needed to come out to  upgrade  our gas meter and they left a number to call back to schedule an appointment to come out M-F, 8-5, at 1-877-853-9434.  Caller ID read Outbound Call above the number.  This was a legitimate call.  Our meter is outside.

LEGIT CALL FROM DTE--   OUTBOUND CALL-, caller ID-  DTE USES THIS NUMBER TO CONTACT CUSTOMERS FOR SCHEDULING.  Our gas meter is outside but they have to shut the gas off to upgrade the meter.  Then the service person has to come inside to start the gas on the water heater or whatever.  I called DTE to verify and she said legit calls will have notes in customers' records.  Ours showed that Victoria had called us at the time indicated.  She left a message with a call-back number.  The service person calls the day before the appointment to verify that he is coming out the next day to upgrade the gas meter.  He calls from his own cell.  They give a 4 and 1/2 hour time-frame for the appointment.  The actual replacing takes about 1/2 hour and then the time to come in and start the gas again.  They work rain or shine.  The call back number was 877-853-9434.

DTE recently sent me a letter saying that they believed something to be wrong with my meter, and they'd like to come check it out. I called them and set up a time. I got a call from this number today to confirm my appointment time (tomorrow).

This is a legit call from DTE Energy to set up a time to replace our meter.  I called back and they were able to give me enough info i.e. account, address, etc... to satisfy me and we simply set up an appointment time for them to come out.  The reason they need an appointment is that they have shut off your gas and then their technician will come in and relight any pilot lights etc...

They could save some hassle though by putting this phone number on their website.

Got a call, heard loud music, then they hung up?!?!?!

Legit call from DTE to work on meter.   Happened last summer when they had to do it.  Happened just now when I asked them to re-do it because it was making a damn loud noise.  Why can't the damn caller ID actually ID them?

Like the others say, got a voice message from this number saying it's DTE and they need to schedule a gas meter upgrade. Left a number to call back. I called the regular costumer service just to be sure, they said that they see no upgrade planned. Until proven otherwise, I assume a scam.

This is a scam to either have access to your home or change your DTE services to a non-DTE gas supplier with higher rates without your knowledge.  Always confirm with DTE 1 (800) 477-4747 before letting anybody into your home.

Just called real DTE at 18004774747 and they said everything was fine.  It's a scam.
