I just got a voice mail telling me that they have a summons to deliver and that I need to be available within the next 24-48 hours and if not, I'll be in contempt of court for not showing up.  They said they would deliver to my residence or where I work and gave me a number to call back.  This male caller did not identify himself and I believe it may have even been a recording, probably the same one they give to everyone

They left me a message freaking me out about being summoned to court. Saying it was a debt from 2002-2004. Something about statue of limitations running out for them to collect debt.

Got the same call. Glad i looked up the number for this info. The army warned me about these people. Seems to be happening a lot if the government issues warnings about harrassing phone calls.

Received the same message as everyone else. They claim to have a summons and if I do not respond they will come to my place of employment or home within 24 hours, blah, blah.

Typical scare tactics from debt collectors... ALWAYS ask for verification of debt if you call them back ...They are required by law to send you paperwork on a debt if you request it and they claim you owe them money.

Just asking for verification of debt most times will stop them in their tracks.

You can one of 2 things...

    1. Ignore their call, they leave a recording citing all sorts of legal crap trying to scare you into giving them money. THEY CAN"T DO ANYTHING. You will notice they do not mention you by name, it is a generic message. You can safely ignore their messages if you can stand getting their calls.

    2. You can call them back and ask for VERIFICATION OF THE DEBT, this is a requirement by law. They must send you paperwork on the debt they think you owe and you have an opportunity to dispute the debt. I have found that just asking for verification of debt stops these jerks from calling because it shows you know the law and will not be intimidated.

Unixman is correct.  Also, process servers DO NOT call and gv you a heads up concerning a summons.  The element of surprise is how they (servers) operate. Also, there is no need to have 2 forms of ID nor do they need your co-workers present.

Further update, after calling them constantly have found that they have 2 people in the office, one New York accent guy claiming to be a law office and one nasty rude lady with a Jersey accent who got called every nasty thing in the book.  These are scammer, they are not a law office.
