- AlCalled my number and said they were filing paperwork with the district court for breach of contract. I have NO idea what's going on, and when I try to call back it just rings and rings.
- Caller: American something
- confusedCalled my cell, saying exact samething "filing paper work w/the district court for breach of contract and looking for a good address for me to be served before the court date" Who is this, no answer when I call the # back.
- DavidThis company is called American. Apparently, they are a collection agency. I have also received the same call.
I responded to this call and was told the exact same thing. Only what they told me I realize did occur and I probably do owe a Cash Advance business. I started a payment plan with them but stopped because my hours were cut at work. I wasn't able to fill my card this week with funds because my pay was short. Funny, they didn't attempt to tap my card for the weekly payment. Because of this I grew suspicious.
Anyway, I began to think.... if this was a legitimate collection agency, shouldn't I be able to find them on the internet? Locate a business address? Do a reverse number look up?
I have not been able to get them to give me an address, location or website address to show they are for real.
All they tell me is the name of the business is called, "American".
I think this is B.S. So I want to know if they are legitimate.
I have decided to stop payment with them until they can show proof that they are a real collection agency and not just some scam that managed to collect information on me to collect money. For now, I will not pay... instead, I will wait for them to serve me.
If they serve me, then I will know they are real. This information I can use before a judge as to the reason why I either stopped payment or refused to pay.
I hope this helps everyone out.- Caller: American

- Rodolfo| 1 replyMy son owes money, an yet I get calls from LLC saying that going to file with the Cameron County District Court saying that they are filing court paper for criminal, and check fraud. If I or my son don't pay the money owe. Funny I have never taken out a loan with Cash Advance.
- Caller: LLC
- SewellI also received a call yes I got a loan in 08 but why am I in all this trouble now address hasnt changed and they demand s prepaid debit card. I think its a scam usually when you make payment arrangements they take it how they can get it
- tolsen0106| 1 replyFraud investation unit, they will tell you anything! But the debit is old and they can not keep leaving messages like that on your answering machine without proof and I mean copy of the loan you signed. If they can not supply you with that you can file a police report your self for harassment and could win up to $1000. It usually takes $ to make money, but if this is ruining you then it's worth it. I did some investigation and looks like I'm in the same boat.

http://fdcpa-attorney.com/ - Tonya OlsenUPC & Assoicates is what they call themselves when they leave you a message to scare you into thinking they are a law office. There offical name is United Portfolio Corporation and the phone number they call from is 877-875-9346. They state on the bottom of their letterhead "Federal law requires us to notify you that this is a communication from a debt recovery corporation. This is an attempt to collect a debt. Any information obtained will be used for that purpose." Funny I just dealt with them and I'm pretty sure the debit they are claiming I owe is false. Not sure how they got all my information but I proved this Payday loan was never automatically deposited into an account number they provided to me. I had to provide multiple bankstatements to get a refund and I was refunded. But I also contacted Leslie Agustin, Account Executive at The Law Offices of Michael Lupolover, PC (C) 201-428-7898 to see if this company is a scam or for real.
I suggest if anyone else gets contacted by UPC they do the same and keep your voice mail messages for the lawyers office. They can't legally threaten you or falsely identify themselfs.- Caller: UPC & Associates

- Craig Parr| 3 repliesThis company violates the collection laws. My advice to everyone (because I am in the loan business) is do not pay these people. Tell them you are recording their call so you can forward the information to the FTC. They are violating collection laws. I am telling every one of my customers not to pay and contact the ci any thy owe the money directly to work out amicable payments. These people are not authorized to collect the debts.

- ambuer replies to Craig Parr| 2 repliesSo I cannot go to jail, nor be served with papers? They said that I would be noted as an repeated offender and I would have a felony warrant out for my arrest. I really dont know what to believe, however im a single parent of a 4 year old, and if I get taken to jail, he will have no one. Please help
- DaFox replies to ambuerYou do not need to worry.
If they were a truly legit collector, they would have not made a claim that they would have you arrested.
it is against federal law for a collector to claim they will have you arrested.
By making that statement, they have provin that they are not a collector, but a crook out to scam money from you.

Report the offender to the FTC and your states attorney general. - Badge714 replies to ambuerAs you have access to the internet, check your State laws. Do a search on Government of your State, and go from there. Ever watch the Fox tv show "Cops"? Ever see them call the criminals FIRST, & then show up at their house? Hardly. Remember, debt in America is a civil matter, not a criminal matter. It's done in court, not in jail. You can check yourself.
- LENNYGOT A CALL FROM GUY NAMED FRANK LEVENDOSKY TOLD HIM STUFF BEEN PAID ALREADY AND TALKED TO REPORTED CREDITOR IN QUESTION. HE HUNG UP

- Tonya Olsen replies to DUH!!!This Company did NOT refund me, my bank refunded the charges. Then I contacted the Law Offices of Michael Lupolover (201-461-0059) because this company violated the Fair Debt Collections Practice by leaving messages saying I was going to jail for fraud and they also called family telling them the same thing. Guess what, this company just settled with the Lawyers for $5000. I highly suggest anyone being harrassed by a creditor wether it's a legit debit or not call the number above. I no do not have to pay the debit, they can't put it on my credit report and they can never contact me again.
- Tolsen replies to R. L.Call the Law Offices of Michael Lupolover at 201-461-0059 all you have to do is get them to leave you a message with the date and time of the threat so you can get a copy to this office. Bingo, guarenteed $1000 for each viloation of the Fair Debit Collection Practice.
- tolsen0106 replies to RodolfoCall the Law Offices of Michael Lupolover at 201-461-0059. Next time this company calls let them leave a message, trust me they are stupid enough to leave all that nasty stuff about going to jail on a voice mail, as they did it with me. Then provide a copy of the call with the date and time of the threat Bingo, guarenteed $1000 for each viloation of the Fair Debit Collection Practice.
