These people have been harassing me since last November. I originally made a payment plan with them because they were threatening me with charges of fraud and other felonies and I didn't know the debt collection laws. I did have a payday loan that I had defaulted on but thought that I had settled years ago with a debt collector. After making the first payment, I realized that the info (year of loan, amount, etc.) wasn't correct and I didn't received any paperwork from them, so I called and they refused to send written documentation. Said I would get it after I paid in full. Did some more research, found out this was a scam and called them on it. They kept changing the info and threatening me and eventually I talked to a supervisor who said I was harassing them and hung up on me after I told them I was cancelling future payments unless they could provide proof of my debt. They said that my making a payment was all the proof they needed to prove to the court the debt was real. Now every few weeks I get a call from them. Sometimes it is the Dept of Legal Services, sometimes JMS solutions. I even have voice mail with what sounds like the same guy with two different names. Don't know if my making a payment gives them any legal right to collect on a bogus debt but I am not paying them anything more until they can send proof I owe this debt.

How can I verify whether or not a debt collector is legitimate?
Here are a few warning signs that could signal a debt collection scam:

The debt collector threatens you. Legitimate debt collectors probably won't claim that they'll have you arrested or claim that they or their employees are law enforcement officers.

The debt collector refuses to give you information about your debt or is trying to collect a debt you do not recognize. You have certain rights to ask a debt collector to verify the debt. You can use this sample letter to request this information. Ask for an explanation in writing before you pay.

The debt collector refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number.

The debt collector asks you for sensitive personal financial information. You should never provide anyone with your personal financial information unless you are sure they're legitimate.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

Ask the caller for his or her name, company, street address, telephone number, and professional license number. Many states require debt collectors to be licensed. Check the information the caller provides you with your state officials, or the state in which the debt collector holds a license. If the caller refuses or is unable to provide you with information about his company, or if you can’t verify the information he provides, do not give money to the caller or company.

Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." This notice must include:
    The amount of the debt
The name of the creditor you owe
A description of certain rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, consider requesting this information in writing or seeking assistance before paying the debt to make sure the debt, and the company, are valid.

Tip: You can consider sending the collector a letter requesting the information by using one of the CFPB's sample letters. You can also submit a complaint to the CFPB or you can contact your state Attorney General’s office.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know the company or person you are talking with is a real debt collector. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft such as:
    Charging your existing credit cards
Opening new credit card or checking accounts
    Writing fraudulent checks
Taking out loans in your name

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Submit a complaint with the CFPB or get in touch with your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers.

Stop speaking with the caller. If nothing else works and you believe the calls are fraudulent, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files.

Tip: You can use this sample letter to write a letter demanding the debt collector stop contacting you. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Tip: If you're having trouble with debt collection, you can submit a complaint with the CFPB online or by calling (855) 411-CFPB (2372).

Received a call from the 877-879-0743 and it came up restricted but left voicemail for me to call this number back..that they was a case against me and I was going to be served. Called them and they stated it was about a payday loan back in 2007 and that if this wasn't taken care of then I would be in court..the person that called me was a lady named Brenda Fields. I asked about documentation cause I didn't remember ever taking out a payday loan and they stated that they couldn't send out any more since they sent out the original letter that I never received.

I received the same call from a blocked "process server" that insisted I call (877) 879-0743 since she was not allowed to tell me why I was going to be served. I played the game and called the number she provided and gave them my "case" number to see what it was about. "David Millner" was the person I spoke to told me that Allied Cash Advance was taking me to court for a debt from 2007. I told David that his company seems to call about 4 to 6 months with a new case number and new person for me to talk to. He stuttered a little bit and said that I need to be home to get served. I told him that's not going to happen since I filed BK in 2010 and the debt was cleared by the court. He got pissed. Started getting really rude and loud saying that my bankruptcy didn't matter and I will have to go to court for this debt. I told him to send that information to my attorney and she will decide if what I need to do. He got even more pissed and repeated I have to go to court and hung up on me. I would not pay this scam company a penny regardless of what they say.

    Concerned
Received a call from 877-879-0743 saying they needed to deliver a paper to summon me to court. When I asked what the debt was over, they said a payday loan from years ago that I don't recall taking out. When I asked to be provided with written documentation, they said I had to pay in full. When I asked did they have a website. He placed me on hold and said he would ask his supervisor and the phone hung up.
