If you're wondering whether or not this is a scam, think about how you arrived at this website. You Googled the number that called you, right? If this was a legitimate number from Sallie Mae, wouldn't their website have come up instead of all these "Who Called Me?" websites?

The people posting on here saying this number is legit are probably the scammers themselves. No one should ever ask you for your social security number if they called you.

Who the F*** are you? You obviously work for a student loan agency and have no class. Get a better job... don't get upset because no one wants to respond to your efforts. And, never respond to people who have nothing to do with the student loans of others in the manner that you have exhibited in these posts. It is truly futile. GET A LIFE.

This is a number from a collection department of Sally Mae.  We received a call from Kyle that was for a person with our same name.  I called back and spoke with Leticia.  I was concerned that they asked for my SS#.  I called them back, reached a different rep, and expressed concern.  He suggested transferring me to Customer Service.  I spoke with Katrina in Customer Service in Indiana and she directed me to the Sally Mae website with the valid contact numbers for Sally Mae.  She gave me her employee ID and said that if I called those numbers and gave them her employee ID that I would be able to reach her directly again.  I called the 1-317-570-7397 number and reached Jasper.  He transferred me to Customer Service in Indiana.  I spoke with Joy who said they don't normally transfer directly to representatives and she had me talk to the manager.  Then Joy said that she wasn't in Customer Service but in Mid-Stage Collections.  She then transferred me to Customer Service in Pennsylvania and I spoke with Katie.  She emailed Katrina and Katrina should be calling me directly.  If not, I will amend this message shortly.

I think this is a scam. I do have a student loan but I set up the automatic transfer long time ago and I'm paying back the loan every month. Besides I'm not even the person that they want to contact.

You are a liar.  My sister has never taken a student loan out yet received one of these fraudulent calls.

Called and said her name was Rachael and that she was an account manager for Sallie Mae Dept of Education.  CID stated number was DEPT OF ED SM, 858-237-7880.  Rachael stated that my son must contact her NLT 9pm tomorrow or he would miss out on assistance with his student loan.  She wanted him to call back at 877-931-7676 Ext FA89.  I looked up both numbers and read a long list of Scam notes from other posts.  This number states that the phone number is from Perry, New York.  Definitely not listed with Sallie Mae, nor does a website appear when you search the number.  Definitely a scam.  Where do these people get this personal information?  Oh, also called on a Saturday morning early and started with a "good afternoon"!

Navia student loan services called after 9 pm on a Sunday, left a voicemail. I don't have loans with Navia, and it's not acceptable to call this late on weekends.

My cp number is two days old only. This number called me and when I answered NO reply. I don't have any student loan because I did not study here in the U.S. I studied in my home country and i am maybe as old as his great grandmother. One more call and let us see!

I too received a phone call. Get this one, also on Easter day eve..what the heck.. I am willing to set up a situation with my student loan, but Navia also calls. Between Sallie Mae and Navia, who do I deal with for payment.. I have been taken before on double payments.. Student loans, buyer beware

Received a call from 877-931-7676 from "Ebony." She said I had been given as a reference by a friend of mine. I couldn't understand most of what she was saying, but the friend's name was legit. She insisted that I give her his phone number. Yeah, right!

We emailed and called my friend to let him know what was going on. He said the same company had called his mother recently asking for his phone number. What is weird is his mother had recently moved and had a new number that she hasn't given out!

My friend had NOT used me as a reference for anything, but this scammer knew my first and last name and phone number.

IT IS NOT A SCAM! I received the same call. They were looking for my grandson. He owes for a student loan. They gave me very limited information because I did not give them my grandson's social security number. Afterwards I did a search on Navient United States Department of Education. The 877-931-7676 is one of their phone numbers and can be confirmed through www.everycaller.com  Also if you Google 8007221300 it will confirm as a Navient or Sallie Mae number; then you can call the 8007221300 and they will verbally confirm that 8779317676 is one of their numbers. It is a shame that we have to verify, confirm, search, do BBB searches and scam searches etc. but as they say," BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY". I do not blame anybody for being careful, but we also have to make sure that we do not unjustly label people and companies as SCAMS prior to doing a sufficient search. On the other hand, if they are found to be scam artist we should let as many people know as possible. We are still a country found on Godly an upright principals, rules, and laws.

No reputable government agency will start out by asking for your SS#....

I never pick up unless I know who is calling anyway, but if you think this is about school loans, you couldn't be more wrong.  I graduated college in 1968 and I've never had a student loan.  Since I live alone and have had this phone number nearly 20 years I promise you  it's not about student loans.

This is a legitimate call from Navient Loan Services looking for someone with a student loan.  They have called my house daily for the past month looking for Crystal ____ (whom I've never heard of).  I have had this same phone number for 9 years.  I called them back today and they said they would take my number off of her account information.  The other numbers that they call from are 317-550-5617, 585-445-6800, 607-235-5092, 877-931-7676.  They sure are persistent.  Crystal is in trouble if they ever catch up with her!

This is true. It is the real deal. Sallie Mae don't play. Ask to put your loans in a forbearance state. They will help you. Or they will garnish your wages if you are working. They will find you.

Sallie Mae (now Navient) ALWAYS asks for your social security number to pull up our profile. If you've dealt with them before, then you would know this; if you haven't, then you can't really say what they do and don't do.

Said the version of being with Sallie, looking for Christina Young (see other comment where that name was used). Told them this was the 2nd request to stop calling. I was very nice, too. Nice did not wor as they called today, neither did the fact they are drilling in a dry well. Isn't there a law about being able to "fine" per call after a certain number of requests for them to cease? Plan to check that out and if so, keep their # in my CID. Did not ask for SS #... IF this is not a scam, ask them to verify... what agency gives them the right... ask for details of their data, like what school did I attend. Or find your own way to make them prove their statements. Personally I do not trust anyone who asks for my social up front. And if you did not pay off your loan, you are cheating someone else of that opportunity. Shame on you. It took me 4 years & a lot of sacrifice, but it was/is the right thing to do... So do it!

Second time they called me, this time they left a message. The didn't have my name right, and the whole thing smelled like a scam. It has nothing to do with Navient or Sallie Mae.

Thank you for filing that complaint. It seems they ask for someone with a made up name, and then leave a message on the second unanswered call. Real boiler room operation just to fleece you out of your SS #.

I am sick of the calls they called daily sometimes twice a day leave a number that is disconnected to call back they claim they're from Department of Education
