- BigA replies to Bobbie| 1 replyThis is a common ploy by criminals attempting to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged, go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished, be sued, and a variety of other variations on this, all for an alleged or nonexistent debt. They also use the “process server” who calls and claims he is going to serve you, but then says you could avoid it by calling another number. Now why would a “process server” want to do you, a stranger, a favor, and at the same time not get paid to deliver the papers?
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

BBB has been contacted by the law firm that represented GTI. The following is from this firm: "GTI is no longer in business. It has been out of business since mid 2013. Despite the fact that GTI has never engaged in any debt collection activity; quit selling debt and wrote-off all uncollected debt in June 2014; and currently has no relationship with any debt collection companies, GTI has come to learn that fraudulent collectors have been using GTI’s name to collect non-existent debts. On behalf of GTI, we are working to make these fraudulent collectors cease and desist their collection attempts.
If you are the subject of any collection efforts claimed to be based on a debt owed to GTI, it is likely a fraudulent collection attempt. If you need assistance or can assist GTI’s investigation into these collection activities please contact GTI’s legal counsel John Mullen at (816) 421-7100.

- CassieMy husband just received a call from these criminals. They have very good stolen information about a bank we used for our checking accounts in the past that was closed years ago. They had his social, an email address one letter off from a former email address that I used, and haven't used for many years. They are forceful and hostile when they call, and like to "tell you what your going to do", they are very unprofessional and poor actors trying their best to sound legitimate. I called them back, and spoke with two women both named Stephanie. But that is my experience with the criminals, now I'm off to file complaints, and reports of this matter.
