call from duo security to verify your phone when signing up for multifactor authentication.  legit.  if you receive a call but you didn't sign up, someone else probably mistyped their phone number.

Mason dated 17 July 2014:  You are correct. Is validation system for using VPN to access a network.  Had to have been requested or one would never receive a call from the subject phone number.

Absolutely right!  My employer uses two-factor authentication so that I can log into its secure network from home.  This is how I check my business e-mail when I'm away from the office.

If that were true, then there is no reason for you to be here.  You knew what the call was and what it was about.  Absolutely no reason to take the time to look up the number at that point.  So, I guess that makes you part of the scam, doesn't it?

Why are you telling a poster from 2014 they are "Absolutely right!"? Do you honestly think they'll return to see your (supposed) confirmation?

I was expecting a call back from a merchant for product inquiry today so I immediately ran to pick up the call. When I lift the receiver, immediately, a computerized voice message said: If you do not expect this call please, hang up. However, the call was cut even before I hung up. When I called the number back, the computerized voice message said: "the phone is no longer in service."

This number called in the middle of the night and left 17 empty/blank voice mails, in succession, on my cell. Each "message" was 2 to 4 seconds in length.

This is Duo, a dual factor authentication service that verifies logins for many companies and universities. If it is calling you it is either because you provided the service with your phone number as a contact point for dual factor authentication, or someone accidentally entered your number instead of their own. I suppose they could have purposefully entered a wrong number, but then they've only made using their dual factor system harder form themselves.
