This is a legit number for Visa Fraud Protection.

Earlier today, I received a text from Charles Schwab advising me that a questionable transaction was made using my Charles Schwab debit card, which is issued by Visa.  I contacted Schwab customer support, who validated that not only was that charge pending, but two others were made that had not yet been posted as well.  The charges were marked by Schwab, I froze and cancelled my card, and a new one was issued.  The charges have been removed from my account.

Shill alert! Logically, since you already know who called you, you would have no reason to look up the phone number yet you did anyway.

Received this text message: "FreeMsg Schwab: Unusual activity on Visa Debit Card ending in 2801. $200.00 at CHASE, WESLEY CHAPEL, FL. If authorized reply YES, if not reply NO. Or call 888-277-6280. To opt out, reply STOP."
Also received a phone call from 888-277-6280.
I DO NOT HAVE a Schwab card or ANY card that ends in "2801."

The only thing more fraudulent than this number is the flood of shills here telling us this isn't a fraud.  Their same comments here are reposted EXACTLY on numerous other phone scam sites.  It's also used as a robocall debt collection number.

Ask yourself; why would anyone come to a fraud prevention site to post comments defending this number.  Why would it even occur to them to do such a thing.  We all have hundreds of numbers that call us that are perfectly legit.  Do you go to the trouble to check them out on sites like this so you can rush to their defense? When you don't even have a clue people would be claiming they are false.  These are all shills and this is a scam.

But if you are determined to hand out information to a complete stranger that calls you on the phone claiming they know you but need you to tell them about yourself so they can verify you are who they called well hey, you go guy.

Got a missed call from this number and an unclear text message. Turned out to be Schwab with an alert on my debit card. Card was deactivated and they are sending me a new one.

Oh, look! Another shill! Go on, explain why you looked up a known phone number. And when you're done with that, look up phone number spoofing.

This number left a VM saying it was Charles Schwab Bank fraud protection calling to verify recent transactions on my debit card ending in xxxx (they had the right digits). Instead of calling that number back, I called the number on the back of my card. They had no knowledge of that call - thought it could have been Visa? - and no concerns, but verified my recent transactions to be sure. Still don’t know if first call was legit or not!

Got a voicemail from this number asking for someone else and claiming they are Schwab Bank Fraud Services.  It's a SCAM!!  Do not give them any information - do not call this number!!  Called the actual Schwab Banking Customer Service # and they said it's a phishing scam.  DO NOT CALL THIS NUMBER!!

This number called me with the same voice recording Charles Schwab uses for fraud protection but instead of having me confirm my identity and the transactions it left a reference number and told me to call back with the reference number or my visa debit card. This raised a red flag as I know Schwab would never call and ask for my debit card number. I called Schwab directly and they confirmed it is the # for visa debit services. When I called the # back directly they were able to verify me and confirm the charges (which were not fraudulent).

I got a call from this number reporting suspicious activity on my Schawb account. I could not find this number on the visa website nor on Charles Schawb.
Also, taken from the visa website: "It's important for consumers to know that Visa will not call or email cardholders to request their personal account information."
    Stay safe out there.

If a random number calls and asks for "verification information", don't give any. They called for my card ending in XXXX. I hung up.

I then used that card to buy groceries. There was no lock on my card
