I got a call saying I was paying too much for the New Yorker and that by giving my visa number I would get a lower rate. I called the New Yorker and said it was almost certainly a fraud.

Four calls in the last two days--just now two about 2 minutes apart--talked to the guy yesterday about magazines--he asked if I was enjoying one I had never subscribed to--I told him I had a guest and could talk no longer--He said he would call again....and he kept his word--I wonder if the reason they don;t crack down on this scum is that they are working---guess we shouldn't complain too much or they will go on the dole!

Man called and said I had renewed two magazines in Jan. I knew that I had not. He also said there was a billing error and that I had been with his company, "??? Readers Service" for many years. Now that I see this is a scam, I am horrified because he had my address.

    New Yorker reader
Woman said she was calling about my New Yorker subscription and if I liked it and was happy with that. I said yes I enjoyed it but I was not sure I was going to renew because it’s so expensive. Big mistake as I then got the spiel that that’s why she was calling and that she was willing to offer me a lock in a rate of $79 forever. And that’s what she pays for her subscription in Florida, to which I almost said well I’m sorry but given the way you’re talking to me you don’t seem like the typical New Yorker reader. But I didn’t want to be a snob Even though I was obviously about to get scammed. I wouldn’t of answered the number except my son did and handed me the phone. Now I will probably get about 20 more calls from these people because we answered. It would be nice if they could get real job somewhere but don’t involve scamming people

Calls come from this toll free number day and night. They never leave a message. This is possibly a scammer, but I don't answer because it is unknown caller. I have updated Do-not-call website with my landline number. Do not answer calls from this number.

A woman asked me if I wanted to renew any of my subscriptions to magazines. I said no and hung up. A call came about an hour later and all the guy could say in the message was Is that you? He had no idea he was leaving a message.

This was the call for the Country Woman  magazine renewal telling me I had renewed at the wrong rate and they were going to give me the new cheaper rate. Talked to woman first and she said there would be someone calling back to confirm, when he did he wanted to confirm my Visa number that started with a four and I just said yes and then he said I needed to give him the number and I told him just to send me the bill and that I would not give my Visa number. Then he told me they do not steal from their customers and hung up.
