- LindaI RECEIVE CALLS FROM THIS 888-281-2409 EVERYDAY, SEVERAL TIMES A DAY. SOMETIMES THEY JUST SIT ON THE PHONE WITHOUT SAYING ANYTHING. THE TIMES THAT THIS PERSON DOES SPEAK, HE RESPONES, I AM WITH THE "US Navy Veterans' Association", ASKING FOR A DONATION FROM THE NAVY VETERANS IN IRAQ. HE SAYS THIS COVERS ALL BRANCHES OF THE ARMED FORCES, AND ONE OF THE PROGRAMS IS SENDING CARE PAGKAGES TO THE VETERANS IN IRAQ. I TOLD THIS PERSON I COULD NOT AFFORD TO MAKE A DONATION, SINCE THEN I GET CALLS EVERYDAY, SEVERAL TIMES A DAY. HE WILL NOT SAY ANYTHING, SO I STARTED JUST PICKING UP THE PHONE AND NOT SAYING ANYTHING. HE WILL THEN REPLY TO THE PHONE I WILL CALL LATER.
I AM DEALING WITH NEUROENDOCRINE CARCINOMA LUNG CANCER. I DO NOT FEEL WELL ENOUGH TO DEAL WITH THIS PERSON ANY LONGER. I SPOKE WITH THE PHONE CO THIS MORNING, AND THEY ADDED ME TO THE DO NOT CALL LIST, ALONG WITH ANOTHER VETS DO NOT CALL LIST1 866-966-2255. THEY ALSO GAVE THE THE PHONE NUMBER TO REPORT THESE CALLS TO THE HARASMENT CALL CENTER AT&T 1-866-966-2255 AND 1-800-769-4099 I WOULD NOT DONATE TO THESE PEOPLE IF I HAD ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD. IF THEY WANT TO DO SO GOOD FOR THESE YOUNG MEN AND WOMAN IN IRAQ, THEY SHOULD BRING THEM HOME, AND STOP CALLING ME.- Caller: "US Navy Veterans' Association".

- Chuck WoodLeft a message, asked for me by first name then laughed and hung up.
- kh in njnj hung up when machine picked up
- Caller: unknown name
- BusterThey called, they got the machine, they did the "hello?... hello?" and hung up without leaving a message identifying who they were or why they were calling. Caller ID showed the reported phone number but UNKNOWN NAME. Of course, I had to call them back to find out who's ringing my line... the answering machine that picks up (everytime) identifies them as the United States Navy Veterans' Association... So, of course, since I couldn't reach anyone through the answering machine, I looked them up on the internet and got a local Washington, DC number - 202-248-5050. Unfortunately, the young lady with the pleasant voice there put me through to "Commander Thompson's Voicemail" twice and then realized that the Association isn't there anymore (how odd, yes?... btw, hit *0 from their voicemail to get back to the operator)... so anyway, upon further questioning, she provided a phone number of 202-327-5400. The young lady with the pleasant voice at that number claimed that the USNVA is a 'client'... and that I was speaking to an answering service... however, I got the impression that "Commander Jack Thompson, USN Retired" was giving her direction to not put anyone through... Of course, I'm not suggesting anything, but it did strike me that the legitimate charitable organziations I've dealt with in the past have live people to speak with and don't hide behind answering machines and young ladies with pleasant voices... Anyway, I did some further checking on the Internet and I suggest you do too BEFORE you consider giving this organization anything... and consider the following... as my old Pop used to say, "Anyone that hard to reach, don't wanna be reached" and "Folks don't hide themselves away unless they got a reason to hide".

- Terri of NJCalled asking for a donation for care packages, asking for me by my full name. I asked him twice to mail me something to read over, but he referred me to their website (which doesn't look legit). He tried getting me to commit to a monetary amount for a donation, but I wouldn't give in.

- Tracy of NJI just received a phone call from this organization. At first they only said "Ms. Lastname" and when I replied "which one" they said head of household, then proceeded to ask me if I was over the age of 18. After I heard their speech, they asked for a confirmation of address to send the card, in which I just asked for something to read. He then transferred me to his secretary, who asked me how I would like to pay for my donation. I said I never agreed to it and she hung up.

- Ed of CATried to get me to make a donation for Navy Vets. When asked how much % is for overhead/admin costa, said he had to ask a supervisor. Waited on hold for ever before i hung up. Web page under Do Not Call instructions says this
deep stuff
"those who denounce, in the name of pubic policy, the First Amendment right of others to free speech, especially those fundraising for the vibrancy of any and all American non-profit causes, need to beware that that same public policy may be turned on them someday to deny them THEIR same freedoms of speech and expression, as they were in Hitler Germany, in Stalinist Russia, and as Al Quaida seeks to do today in Iraq and throughout the Muslim world."- Call type: Telemarketer
- lied to I guess replies to do not call| 1 replyto get pledges for US Navy care packages?
I was going to send a package to my step brother
whose in the Navy, but my Mother and Step father
said I could NOT send him packages because it would
most likely get lost and he would not get it anyway.
So I guess my Mother and Step father just LIED to me
about it. isnt that hateful.
Can you really send packages?
and if so, I wonder why my package would not be
wanted? I guess the steps really do hate me. - CDCSaid they were calling "On behalf of US Navy Veterans" - told them I couldn't help them out and hung up. Also called too d@mn early in the morning - not all of us are up at 6AM.

- USMC Veteran replies to lied to I guessIt's very simple. Just call any US navy telephone number and ask what the protocal is for sending care packages to active military stationed overseas and ask what the do's and dont's are. I think they will provide you with a list of items that you can't send.
- TF New JerseyThe most annoying hang ups. Calling and calling four, five, ten times a day! No messages. They must be calling state to state or something. I see several posts from Jersey.....
- jgot the call, just hung up on them
- John-AHung up on me
- DLRRepeated calls from this number in spite of my persistent request to be taken off of calling list. Today it was a real hoot as the rude man calling was frustrated at me for not listening to him. HA! Apparently I need to be a better listener (not) while he convinces me that it is not him making the repeated calls and he will remove my number from his list! If I would just listen to him I would know that! What an unfunny joke. I do not know what he was trying to sell and I do not care. I think these people have a heck of a nerve using the phone my family pays for to bother me in my day. Phone spammers...no better than the internet variety.
- LAMGet many calls from this number but no one is there-??!!
Did look on their website and this is what I found
QUOTE FROM THE http://www.navyvets.org/id48.html
DO NOT CALL LIST
No charitable exempt organization in the United States is subject to the Federal Trade Commission's Telephone Solicitation Regulations relating to the National Do Not Call Registry.
However, to have your name and telephone number placed on our internal Do Not Call List in and for any state in which the Association does a public fundraising drive at any time, even before any first telephone call or contact is ever made, no questions asked, you may call, toll-free, 1-888-665-9359, or reach us in Washington at 202-736-1725, or call the pertinent State Chapter at its telephone number listed on the State Chapters Page, or email us at DoNotCall@Navyvets.org, If you email us, or connect with the Voice Mail and simply say or write: "Do Not Call," your full name (which should be spelled out slowly), and your full telephone number including area code, it will be done. (Takes about 24-72 hours.) It's as simple as that. If you wish to quote this paragraph when you do so, please feel free, but, at the same time, include the following thought as a courtesy to all REAL Americans: those who denounce, in the name of pubic policy, the First Amendment right of others to free speech, especially those fundraising for the vibrancy of any and all American non-profit causes, need to beware that that same public policy may be turned on them someday to deny them THEIR same freedoms of speech and expression, as they were in Hitler Germany, in Stalinist Russia, and as Al Quaida seeks to do today in Iraq and throughout the Muslim world.
You can also contact us to have your name put on our internal Do Not Call List by using any of the contact information on our Contact Us Page.
Please DO NOT USE the Donation Processing Center addresses listed on the State Chapters Page to mail in a written Do Not Contact request. The Donation Processing Centers are not set up to process such requests.
Less than 7% of the charities in the United States are as accomodating as the Association is with regard to the ease with which you can gain access to our Do Not Contact feature. In fact, most do not have it at all.- Caller: US Navy Vet
- stevenwCalled at 7:11pm on 5/28/08, caller ID showed "not provided." Left no message on my answering machine.
As others have reported, search showed the number goes back to US Navy Veterans. Their website, WWW.NAVYVETS.ORG, comes back to "Office of Administration, US Navy Veterans Assn, 1718 M St, #275 NW, Washington DC." The address is in fact a UPS mail box. I searched a little and they do seem to be a real group, but their website and overall rhetoric seem very unprofessional for a legitimate veterans' group. They openly admit on the website that they contract with professional telemarketers for fundraising, which of course means 85% of your donation never gets past the telemarketers. Speaking as a navy veteran myself, I wouldn't feel comfortable donating to these guys.- Caller: US Navy Veterans Assn.

- NJ residentI WOULD STRONGLY ADVISE YOU DON'T TALK TO THEM AT ALL. I DID AND THREE DAYS LATER THERE WAS FRAUDULENT ACTIVITY ON MY CREDIT CARD! Not sure if it's attributed to them yet, but quite the coincidence.
