- mark| 5 repliescall from Mattew Long looking for Angel Santos. Used bad language and accused me of paying his bill

- KateMatthew Long, claiming to be an investigator, called asking for my EX-daughter-in-law--ex for over three years and of course lied and said she gave him my number. He began rudely and it only got worse. I said "YOU are being rude and you don't even know who I am!" He did calm down when I said it was a new house, new number, she had no access to it and said if she is using the name of Ashley Wall and giving him my number, she was committing FRAUD! I am waiting to see if I hear from him again! Frankly, I am tired of HER bill collectors finding me--even though I have moved to another town and NO ONE in my family has had any connection nor has any responsibility for her bills for well over three years.

- ScottI was called by a mr. Goldstein from this number. It is to a law firm known as Cambridge and Hoffman, and they are legit. He informed me I was being sued and I blew him off thinking it was just another collection agency. Next thing I know 48 hours later a sheriff showed up and my door and served me court paperwork. I was sued by jc penny and they were represented by this firm. I can confirm that this place is for real, so for anyone in the future getting calls from this firm take it seriously because they are for real. I don't know who matt long is, I am assuming an employee there but I never spoke to him but his name does come up on the voicemail. So again for anyone getting calls from this number please do yourself a favor and take it seriously because they are a legit firm that acutally files law suit, again I know from personal experience, I don't like sharing my business but I don't want people to make the same mistake I did.
- The Truth| 3 repliesHey "Scott," do you get paid extra for making phony posts when you're not busy harrassing people with false threats at this collection agency full of losers?
- CameronThey're a debt-collection agency. Here's a page where they indicate they're hiring:
http://www.listown.com/admin-office/ny/201005/752766.htm
This includes their physical mailing address. I'd advise sending them a cease and desist letter (you can find templates online) and request debt validation be mailed to you.- Caller: Cambridge & Hoffman

- JamesYep, got a call from the same number. It is some sort of collection agency. too bad they are stupid enough to not realize that they cant file a lawsuit here.. HAHA. Anyway, anyone getting a call from this number, that is who they really are "Hoffman" ..In short....a collection agency using a new tactic. threatening you with a lawsuit and asking for your attourney. would be funny is somebody's attourney actually called them back. on the other hand, you cant get through to their line. it is a voicemail that wants you to leave a message, so they can call you back.go figure. Also, and lastly, for those of us out here that are struggling since the economy went to crap, if a company actually takes you to court, they dont call you anymore or even notify you that they have done it. Because by this time if you have been actually taken to court, there is not much you can do but make them wait behind all the other places wanting their money as well, from your paycheck. usually,if you call them when you get paperwork, then they want you to talk to the court,or on some rare ocassions, pay all the fees and amount for the court order upfront. in short, filing bankrupsy is a good way to end all of it.
PS. Love the last post of them looking for Debt collectors....... TOTALLY FUNNY!!- Caller: Hoffman

- EvieThis morning I was checking my work voicemail and I found a message asking for my husband "They said needs a statement from my husband or his attorney." I called back at 888-282-6561 the name of the company is Cambridge & Hoffman in Hamburg, NY and they told me that my husband had a Payday loan on 2008 for $300.00 now he has to pay $400.00 or make arragements by tomorrow before 3:00 or he is going a be sue.
I google this agency but I can't find anything and try BBB.com and they don;t have any records of this agency I also look on BuddHibbs but they don't have any records.
I need an advise Do you think they can sue my husband for $400.00 and they told me that I can be sue too because I am married with him eventhoug I never sign for everthing.
Please give me an advise. It is a legitimate company? SO I can pay them back.- Caller: Cambridge & Hoffman

Don't worry - they can't sue your husband. They're not allowed to threaten you with legal action like they've done. I recommend you fill out a complaint form by contacting the following person with the Attorney General's office:
Senior Consumer Fraud Representative
Buffalo Regional Office
Main Place Tower
350 Main Street, Suite 300A
Buffalo, NY 14202-3750
Karen.Davis@ag.ny.gov
direct line (716)853-8416
fax (716)853-8414
If you can forward a sound file of the voice mail (like a .wav file as an attachment) to Karen, that would be good evidence that they're violating the law. - Evie| 1 replyCameron;
Reg: Yesterday Post on Cambrdige & Hoffam.
Guess what I discover , Yesterday I called to Cash Central (Payday loan company) the original lender, and they already sold my account to "MGI" (Mjollnir Group) 866-629-0653. I called that company and nobody answer was a voice mail, I left a message, the guy call me back and surprise!!! my husband account is on his office in Utha. Really I don't know, I am thinking that is something wrong on this two agencies because in this agency is only one person at the office, he told me that he buy bad debts. He gave his website "yourmgi.com" but the web-site dosen;t give you information about this collection office.
That's way I am thinking who is saying the true, THe Cambridge & Hoffman in New York or This MGI agencie in Utha. OR both are BAD Companies. What do you think? I- Caller: Cambridge & Hoffman

- Be Careful! The Cambridge is a scam. They have only shown up as an LLC since January 2010. There is an article on a news site in Central PA about them and the call they make. See: http://www.wgal.com/money/23938336/detail.html
As the article states, no one is allowed to contact like this and discuss "pending litigation". They just want you to give them your bank account information and then you are screwed. They obviously somehow got the database with people that had pay day loans.
Avoid at all cost- Caller: Cambridge

Seriously, they aren't allowed threaten you with legal action. Never pay a third party agency ask for the original company call them directly and make arrangements with them.

- brandiWell i got a call today from this cambridge & hoffman. first off they left me a voicemail when i was at work saying that they needed to talk to me regarding a possible fraud account in my name. i called them and they told me i owed money from a payday loan with cash central and i've never even heard of them. not to mention they said a payment was made on this so called payday loan just 3 days before i had left the country. needless to say i did not pay on any such loans 3 days before i left the country. they said i owed $800 but they could cut it down to $400...then they decided they could do $200......what a negotiation. i told them i needed more than my email, social security number, place of employment and 2 referrences in order to determine if this was a bill i created as i have had things appear in my credit report that i never did. she said they did not have access to that information. what a ridiculous answer. even if she didnt have that information, she would need to be able to give me information on how to reach someone who could. and as others have posted....they can not threaten you with the statement of you being sued until they have actually filed a suit. it is spelled out in black and white on the FTC website! I'm not sure yet at this point what i am going to do, but i'll try to update here when i find out.

- ex-collectorhello, i used to be a collector in buffalo ny. i have been in the business over 15 years so i know alot about it. so just to let yous people getting harassed, these debts are legit. they are bought and sold just like any other stock, except they buy millions of dollars worth for pennies on the dollar. so most collection agencies do actually own the debt, and by doing so can take legal action against. others just use the threat as a scare tactic. all you have to do is demand in writing that you want proof that they are legally able to try to collect the debt. if they dont send it or refuse, odds are they dont have the rights to collect on it. but dont get me wrong, alot of payday loans are taken out online, so they dont have anything that you signed, you did an electronic signature, and that is just as good as you john hancock. so, you can refuse to pay if you want, thats on you, but by doing so your just leaving yourself open to the phone harassment and possible wage garnishment and/or judgements (freezing bank accounts, etc....), and even reporting on your credit report, which in this day and age is very important.... so do what you want and just dont cry if you take the hard path of nonpayment

- Deanna replies to The Truth| 2 repliesIs this company really legit and should I be scared I'm going to be arrested?????
- [***]If it's ID theft...which is the oldest trick in the book....then send the proper documents to get the account closed out. If they went by everybody's word that it was "fraud" everybody would be outta business. Note to everyone...the burden of proof falls on the consumer. Everybody needs to take a step back and look at the situation, they have your name SSN 3 references your place of employment and email....Do you really think it's a scam...they just pulled this info out of the air? The answer is no
- brandiJust wanted to update here and tell [***] and Ex-Collector that this is a SCAM!!!! I talked to the supposed original creditor Cash Central and they DO NOT use Cambridge & Hoffman to collect on debt. They informed me to go to www.ftc.gov and file a complaint. just shows what u morons know!!!!!!!!!!! Must be a reason one of you is an [***] and the other is an "ex" collector. Hope you both find something better to do than to type ridiculous messages to people here.
Evie...i suggest the same for you. file a complaint. cash central does use Mjollnir Group in Utah to handle their accounts, not Cambridge & Hoffman in New York state.
If you go to the Federal Trade Commission website that i listed above you can read about your rights as well as file a complaint.
Best of Luck!!!- Caller: Cambridge & Hoffman

- THANKGOD replies to mark| 4 replies888-282-6561 Cambridge & Hoffman had been trying to reach me and I was just blowing them off. Finally, one day I decided to answer their call. Thank God I did as I had forgotten all about that darn payday loan. I pay my bills but 2 years ago had some medical issues and needed fast cash so I called upon Cash Central. Miranda Morgan was one of the nicest persons I have ever talked to. She not only was understanding but, she actually put a smile on my face about paying this $1200.00 bill.
Great company to work with! - DANA replies to Deanna| 1 replyAny company that owns debt has a legal right to file for judgment. The best way to resolve these issues is to offer a 50% settlement....They get some of their money back, and you save money and clean up your credit...Everyone wins
- brandi replies to THANKGOD| 2 repliesgreat company to work with??? check my post from today. i spoke to cash central and they do not use cambridge & hoffman to collect on unpaid payday loans. they use another company called Mjollnir Group, Inc. they informed me that i was getting scam phone calls and to file a complaint with the FTC. so if you paid them money, u may have been ripped off.
