- JANE replies to EvieImagine someone owed you 3 thousand dollars and they ignored you for 2 years! What would you do?........Oh yeah...you would sue them!...
- MICHELLE R.i can testify that they do have payday loans at cambridge and hoffman. i got a call from them about a week ago. i ended up forgetting about the loan they gave me a 50% settlement and i got my paid in full letter via email. it had my original account # on it which matched my records. so im speaking from experience, they didnt say they were gonna sue me or anything like that either. i have had many collection calls then theses people.
- Caller: cambridge and hoffman associates
- hsertjswtgrtAQWB 3W2 replies to Julesseriously they are allowed to sue you...if they own the debt they can do what they want. as long as they are following within your state guidelines for suit.
- Rich replies to DANAThis sounds like a scam in itself. Total B.S.
- herold replies to Evieto answer your question...this happens alot...mjollnir sells thier debt....and some files get duplicated...so you have mjollnir calling you and cambridge andd hoffman...its simple call mjollnir and they will direct you to cambridge and hoffman if you think its a scam do it that way!
- Miles replies to brandiThey are legit.I called them back and they told me I was too late!....said they already "prepared and faxed" my account and I could no longer pay the bill. Now 2 weeks later,I get my check, and there is a garnishment notice....WTF? They only give you 1 day to call back?!?!
- THANKGOD replies to brandiYes, they use Mjollnir out of Utah who sold the debt to them---call them Brandi
- tomFor everyones information...Mjollnir Group in Utah is a debt buyer, and yes...they do sell debt to Canbridge and Hoffman. Cambridge and Hoffman is a debt buying company...and YES, they can sue you...they OWN the debt.
- CJA collector can threaten a lawsuit as per the FDCPA if:
a) an agency has the means to do it
b) has the ability to do it
c) has a trend of doing it
Also, you can contact the original creditor, but in a case where debt is sold, they technically can only give you new contact information. If they discuss it with you, they are performing 3rd Party Disclosure.
Sounds like all this place isn't doing is giving written notice of 30 days to allow for dispute of debt, but that's an old trick. The agency can say they sent it, but they can't control the mail - looks like it got lost in the shuffle, and you lose.
Basically, when a debt collector calls, listen to them and PAY THE BILL if you can. If not, deal with the consequences. - rolando replies to THANKGODok guys you must get paid extra for making comments to make like you are legit; but needless to say you have more complaints than any other collection agency....so jeff, miranda(theresa), andy, igan, john moore(carm calletta) keep posting these bogus comments as no one has even a $1200 bill with this office unless you have a credit card and it is out of statute for these people to collect on....request letter to be mailed to you! do not have them email that to you...they have only 5 people in this shady office and have 10 - 15 complaints in the past month for not being compliant breaking all the fdcpa rules.....SHUT THEM DOWN!
- my| 1 replypeople these pay day loans are illegal in 15 states so what you can do is only pay back the principal and you don't have to pay any interest on the loan and let the sleazy debt collector know that it was illegal for you to operate in my state.you do have to pay back the amount you borrowed.
go on ask.com type in what states are illegal for a payday loan and you will get a list of the 15 states, and no matter what they say they cant do anything once you have a little knowledge of the law they will accept the principal payment - JohnId like to know how they get an cell phone number when nobody has it
- Caller: cambridge & Hoffman
- jim replies to myyes payday loans maybe illegal in some states but when you submit your application for example: submitting a cashnet payday loan in ny is illegal but they will send you to another payday loan which will help you obtain a payday loan even though this one was unable to help you out.....but there is a thing all you debtors have to understand that once you type your name on the bottom box of the agreement make sure you know what you will be charged for the loan and there are conditions on every loan. yes principal is what you got including the interest you agreed upon paying before making payments...and like everything else these do incrue interest at a rate of 24% biweekly and they can sue you and present judgment upon the individual except for certain states where the cannot garnish.
