- tara's nightmare| 4 repliesyes we did call this morning, ha ha ha pay your bill!
- fedup77026Got a call from this number stating I had a payday loan that is outstanding. I've only had one payday loan a long time ago and paid it back. They threatened me with jail. I did a search for the company and they don't exist.
- Caller: Riley, James and associates
- 888-479-9480No company can call you and say, "they have a summons to serve you", "your going to jail", or "we're calling the police". It's a scare tactic to make you pay for your outstanding debt. In most cases your debt has been purchased by this company - and their job is to collect it. Doesn't mean they can threaten you. Always report them to www.ftc.gov -which puts the company on a list for investigation.
- KenKI keep getting phone calls from an Emily Thorne from "Riley james & Associates" seeking to speak with someone who may have provided my cell number, but when I call them back to have my number removed from their database, I can never get to speak with anyone, so guess what, the calls continue to keep coming!
- Caller: Riley james & Associates
- Call type: Debt collector
- john jonesContinues to call my cell and work number. States they have papers to serve me with and need to verify my addresses. Directs me to call 888 479 9480. I call and get no one. Voice Mail is from Emily Thorne( great name from Revenge TV show). Riley James & Assoc. does not exist not is is legit to threaten over the telephone as they have. I have already filed with www.ftc.gov. Rogue agencies do not care that you report them, they continue to harass....

- Dunnit| 1 replyI wish these people would go away. They have broken so many federal and state laws, if anyone could figure out who they really were, they'd be in federal prison and a lot of Americans would be rich! They use a spoofed phone number, fake names, and make false claims that criminal charges can be filed for civil matters. Not to mention that the message is recorded.
When I saw the number "000-000-0000" on the caller ID, I let it roll over to the answering machine. "Emily Thorne" left the message that they needed to my address so they could serve papers at either my home or place of business. I may contact the plaintiff (implies a law suit has been filed) at 888-479-9480. They didn't leave a company name, but I'm assuming it is the same Riley James & Associates.- Caller: Riley James and Associates.
- Payback replies to DunnitAll these scammers are losers who associate themselves with rabid and desperate illiterates that get mad when you ask them a legit question like the time on their clocks.
- Fed up with these Bozos| 3 repliesI'm so tired of getting these calls from these bogus companies. Every time I get one if I can manage to get an address out of them, I send a debt validation letter and cease & desist letter. Of course, I never receive any validation and no more phone calls from that "company." But it's very funny how within just a few days I start receiving calls from another "company" regarding the same thing. I think they just go in cycles using different company names and phone numbers, but it's all the same bogus outfit. I wish there were a way to stop them.
- TT replies to Fed up with these Bozos| 2 repliesHi There,
I recieved the same phone call re: a bank account I closed 5 years ago because I had a payday company that continued to try to take money out of my account after I had paid it off. That was a nightmare in itself as I had someone calling me last year who had purchased the "payday loan" and I actually paid a settlement and got a letter from them clearing the account. Good thing, because a couple of months later I recieved a call from another company about the same payday loan and forwarded them the letter. Well a month ago, I got a call from a 0000000 number with a phone number for Rowling and Associates and it was about passing fraudulent checks to a payday company! Again, I agreed to a settlement as they threatened civil charges for restitution. Then today I got a call from Emily Thorn at this number and told the lady on the phone that I had already made arrangements with another company and I would send her the letter. She said that she was still going to send me a summons unless I paid them and put me through to the payment center where I flipped out on the phone.... The first lady (called herself a settlement administrator) got back on the phone and said... "Do you realize that you are talking to the police! I'll go ahead and send out the summons and you can explain your behavior in court!" She then started telling me that I was going to jail and how much the bail bond would be! I couldn't believe it! What should I do? - Christine Tracey| 2 repliesHi There,

- Gunnar replies to Christine Tracey| 1 replyThey are frauds Christine so calm down. Demand that they send you, by mail , verification of their claims. When they refuse tell them that you are aware of their scam and that all calls to you, your friends, your family and your employer will now be logged and recorded. They will be rude and indignant (normal for bogus scammers) and will hang up.
Check the FTC website for more info. on the 'Pay-day loan scams'. An educated and aware consumer is the bogus debt collectors worst nightmare. - notgiven replies to TTQuit answering the phone. You don't owe them anything and they can't do anything to you. Everything they have said is illegal.
If they have any of your account numbers close the accounts and open new ones. If they have your social security number, opt out with the credit agencies and put a fraud alert on your file. Change your phone number and get a Google Voice number to give out when you need to. Don't put your phone number or your employer's name on Facebook or any place like that. Hide your friends list and tighten your security. - tt replies to GunnarThank You.... thats what I thought! The lady was so unprofessional and she actually did hang up on me after telling me my summons was in the mail.
- ANNOYED| 1 replyI AM SO ANNOYED RIGHT NOW. I HAVE RECEIVED CALLS AT LEASST 5 TIMES FROM THESE PEOPLE. I HAVE CALLED BACK TWICE. AS SOON AS I SAID I WAS GOING TO TALK TO MY LAYWER AND I NEED PROOF FROM THEM THEY PROCEEDED TO CUSS ME OUT, THREATEN ME AND HANG UP ON ME. I ALREADY KNEW THEY WERE FAKES. ANY SUGGESTIONS BESIDES IGNORE THEM?

- Alfalfa replies to ANNOYEDThe Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:
is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.
Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

- fed upEmily Thorne from Riley James and Assoc keeps calling the physicians office that i manage, leaving a taped message stating they have a summons or something of that nature for ~ and they spell out a name~ As this has been happening for months,2-3 time a week, in whcih I am interrupted. I called number back and asked that this number be removed, and the guy starts questioning me!! I explain that i don't think he understands the purpose of my call. - WTFJust got the call from "Emily Thorn" @ Riley James & Associates and was threatened to go to jail for writing bad checks. I've never written a bad check in my life nor have I ever bounced a check. I asked for documents and proof of this lawsuit and was told the only way to get documents was to pay $600 through Diversified Processing Solutions. I did a check and Diversified is a legit company that collects debts BUT Riley James & Associates IS NOT. They had my social, previous state of residence, age, etc. and said make the payment now or go to jail. I've never dealt with any of this stuff (summons, lawsuits, extradition) so I didnt know what to do. Well my choice was the wrong one and now I am fighting to get my money back. So pissed and disappointed that there are people out there stealing from others and threatening lawsuits and jail. Why cant this crap be stopped?
