Claimed they were from Bank of America Credit Cards. Asked for my account number to verify my identity. Sounded suspicious to me.

    Not that stupid
I got the same call.  I contacted Bank of America.  This is an old disconnected number. it is definitely not legitimate.  They said they had been getting a lot of calls reporting this.  It is someone obtaining card information from unsuspecting people & then using the cards.

I just got the same call -- do we need to report it to BOA or just not answer it?

I just got this call...didn't answer because I didn't recognize the number and of course, no voicemail was left. Thanks for the info!

called and left me a message saying that I needed to call back or my card could be discontinued, recorded voice. I checked on the number b/c I don't have any cards that anybody would discontinue service on. However; this week I put an ad on craigslist and received two responses through email saying the parties were interested. I foolishly thought they were legit then emailed them my number that they were still available then received a totally bogus email back and deleted them, but am sorry I gave my number in the first place. I will not call back and will block the # from my phone if possible

Just received a voicemail from this number. It said: "This is card services calling about a change to the status of your account. to avoid disruption of valuable service you need to call us back today at 1-888-498-8835. Thank you from card services."

so i got a  missed called from this # yesterday & they ended up leaving a voice mail saying "this is card service to inform you of a "change of status" on your account so please call us immediately" so i called the # but apparently they were already 'closed' so i called BOFA & told them exactly what happened & was told that they were trying to Phish for my acct# & to be very careful. This morning I called the 1(888)498-8835 & a lady answered claiming "card services" & i asked her what type of business it was & she said that they handled various accounts for different banks. & then she claimed that it was Bank of America. So i told her what the problem was knowing their devilish schemes. She said that since I called them that i would need to give her my acct# and or SS#, which I did NOT provide for them. I told her that BOFA would NEVER call for my bank information & hung up on her.

I got the same call last night on my machine. It used my full first and last name. DOn't know how they got my info, but I will not be calling them back. It was very coincidental that I had just paid my BofA card online....

I got a call from 1-888-498-8835 at about 3:20 PM today and just now at 7:49 PM.  I have never seen this number before.  After the 7:49 call they left the "this is Card Services to inform you of a 'change of status' on your account so please call us immediately" message - no mention of whose Card Services.  They also had my first and last name.

Thanks go out to the other posters here who have informed me about these scammers.

Got a call from this number yesterday. I didn't recognize the number, so I didn't answer it. Of course, they didn't leave a message. However, today they called again, but this time it was a computer message that included my first & last name and it said that "there has been a change in the status of your account. please call 888-495-8835 immediately so that disruption to your account doesnt occur". After reading everyone else's posts -- I have received calls from BOA & they are up front about what company they are calling from. This definitely sounds like a scam!

I took a call from this number, it identified itself as Card Services.  It was a recorded message which I normally hang up on.  I was waiting for a bank's call so I took it not even realizing it wasn't my bank.  It asked me to verify myself with the last 4 of my social or my zip code.  I entered my zip code and the call hung up on me.

Am I at risk for entering my zip code?  Can any infromation be gathered if this number has my name and zip code??  I'm very nervous, I'm NEVER this careless.

Called back and spoke to a human. They wanted the 16 digit CC number or my social security number to look up my account. I asked them who they worked for, whose "card services" they were and they said they worked for many companies.

Like everyone who has posted above or below, I just encountered the same from tel # 888 498 8835....please, please, do not respond back to this tel #; it is an organization phishing for your bank account # and SSN#..I called this # back, they did not introduce themselves associating with any specific bank, but a card service called FIA Card Services. If you have any issues, concerns, etc with your bank and its services, you should be getting phone calls, or generating phone calls to your bank tel #'s that are on the back of your card...PERIOD. Do not, and I repeat, do not accept any calls from tel #'s or phone messages from personnel that are masquerading as those that represent your banking needs (ie, Credit cards, debit cards, etc). This FIA is phishing for your information that will lead to identity theft...when you go to https://www.ibsnetaccess.com/spotlight/ibsspotlight.html FIA will tell you everything how to protect yourself against indentiy theft, and then lead you to call them or write to them...AND when you do that, the vicious circle starts again: they ask your for your last 4 digits of your bank account, etc....questions that will allow them to steal your identity...This company has a huge set of huevos and someone should do something to take them down....Good Luck and be careful out there

    BOA strikes again

This number is calling me again and leaving the same message others have noted. I am curious...since it seems like the majority of people here have Bank of America accounts, is Bank of America selling some of our information to this company?  I go by my middle name, so it's virtually impossible to find my first name anywhere (other than on my Bank of America credit card), which is what these scammers are using when they leave a message.  So it just leads me to believe that Bank of America is providing some information to this company to work off of...thoughts?

Definitely a scam. Called BOA to verify fraud. BOA noted to my account of the calls. I would recommend to anyone who receives a call from these individuals to call BOA and verify your acct. If they have your name, they have your acct number. Any bogus charges can then be removed. Good luck.

Where have you been hiding? SIMPLE IDENTITY THEFT AVOIDANCE PROCESS

NEVER CALL BACK an UNKNOWN Number that claims to be from your bank.

USE ONLY KNOWN GOOD NUMBERS like on back of card or bank statements.

PHISHING IS BECOMING a MAJOR PROBLEM THAT IS EASILY AVOIDED WITH A LITTLE COMMON SENSE!

I got a missed call from this # 1 888 498 8835.. I called it back & some guy with no type of professionalism, answered saying only his 1st name Will Dubard or something like that and wanted to know my full name..I told him who are you..He said "The Bank of America"..Right away he sounded fishy about it..So I told him I dont do any business with "The Bank Of America" I only do business with "Bank of America"...When I told him that he right away knew I was catching on to him because I clearly told him about 3 x's to specify exactly if he is "The Bank of America" or "Bank of America" ..He said again "The Bank Of America" so he was trying to make me think it was the real BOA by saying "The BOA" in a gray area form..I told him I wont give you any of my info & I wanted to know what this call is about? He said we are trying to help customers who are going thru financial difficulties...I was like???????? ...So i told him NO dont need any help or your services & hung up on him...A few hours later they called me back & I answered it pissed off, But I got a automated service saying please enter your zip code or last 4 of ss#..I hung up...Be Careful with these imposters..

I just got a call from this number and I always do a check on 800 numbers that appear on my cell phone - considering I rarely give out that number to companies. They did not leave a message, however after reading these posts I'll know exactly how to answer, though I normally always return calls from numbers off my statements/cards and not the voicemail. Thanks for the information.

Quick update. I just called BOA and they advised that this number is a customer service number associated with them. Since no message was left, I didn't ask to be connected to verify what information they were looking for. If it's important enough, they will call back and leave a message.
