- Gunnar replies to CAROLYNThey're just desperate FRAUDS! Tell your friends, family, neighbors and co-workers to laugh at them, hang up & then ignore them or block their calls. Just as when a fraudulent 3rd party debt collector uses these tactics, it's proof their claim is bogus or invalid. If you don't get proof of a debt by mail (not e-mail or fax.) on request, the claim is BOGUS!
Be Safe. Be Aware.
Gunnar - DJYup, just got one of these. the number that showed up on caller id (yea, I know they can be faked...)716-537-4552 with the name of Cusumer Energy. Same thing, going to get FELONY WARRANT (3 of them...lol) but, if I call back, we can keep this out of the courts...

- jay replies to tony| 2 repliesTony, I may be wrong at this, but I believe that a 3rd party debt collector can sue, if they have legally purchased and own the debt. I see them all the time in our local News paper sueing for indebtedness......
Someone correct me if I am wrong......but Portfolio Recovery Associates and NCO are both frequently in the paper for sueing debtors... - PersonI just called my local police department and better business bureau and this is a SCAM dont pay these ppl any money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- irisblueMy neighbor received a phone call last evening stating that they were looking for me. They called me by name, and told my neighbor that I had used them as a reference. I would have never given them as a reference. My neighbor was told that I had a case number, and that they were unable to get hold of me because my phone number had changed. I have had the same phone number for the past 14 years. I notified the company this morning to let them know that I had contacted the FTC, and our local attorney general's office. They denied that they were a scam company, however, warrants are not issued for any debt owed.

- annoyedA Michael Reynolds has made repeated phone calls to my former job. He has a slight accent (the dialect sounds either African or a southerner who is from another country). He calls from two different numbers - (209) 803-5754 & (209) 803-5756. He insists that I return the call to 1-888-502-5665. Since I am aware of all my debts, I know this is not a legitimate claim. The call is an illegal debt collection call. The person calling states that he is calling from the TAC Warrant Division. What the H....ll is that? He states that his office has a file under my name and social security number and if I don't call them back it will result in a class???? felony and I will go to jail. This statement right here is specifically what makes this call noticeably illegal and most possibly a scam. I have filed a complaint with the FTC. I highly recommend everyone doing the same if you get these types of calls. I have also blocked their numbers from my phone. Here is the link to file a claim https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/FTC_Wizard.aspx?Lang=en

- Lee| 1 replyMy father and my sister have received calls for me to call this number back, never have a call on my own number and today they left a message for me at a school that I haven't worked in for nearly 3 years. The calls have been going on for nearly a month and I had a similar incident last year in May also. They have a case number, always have someone different to call wanting money. They haven't ever gotten money off of me and are trying different tactics now. This time was a woman Carol Hawk. Last time was a man claiming to be with some company TAC, whatever that stands for but they keep trying. They have all my personal information and are threatening to send me to Jail. Although I know they cant do anything it still is nerve racking. I'm scared to make any big purchases like a new car or house because they have all my info. But they have not done anything with my checking account from what I can tell.

- Alfalfa replies to LeeThe Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:
•is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
•refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
•asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
•exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
•Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.•Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
•Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
•Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
•Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0258-fake-debt-collectors - Christi Thompson| 6 repliesanything is a scam when you don't want to pay back something you forgot or you owe that's just like relative that borrow money from you and get mad when you need it back. i can say when they called me i talk to a Brian Stokes very nice young man he told me about the loan round the i was going through something and couldn't pay i didn't fight with him at all i took care of my responsibility after i did my 3 payment of my total they sent my copy of paid and full i show my attorney and he said everything was good. People grow up and pay your dues they're not suppose to threat you about with the law but they can call you.

- Already Reported ThemI received a call this morning and earlier this week. Good thing I looked up the number prior to returning the phone call. It appears that these people are really trying to scam people. Please report them as I did and hopefully this will put an end to all of this.

- Annoyed replies to Christi ThompsonAre you serious???????????? You must be one of the scammers posting here in an attempt to make believers out of all of us. If not, please supply the full name, address and phone# to the collection agency everyone here is complaining about (TAC Warrant Division). There is a TAC and Associates which does not have a good reputation as collectors but that is besides the point. I believe these callers are not the same TAC. I've done some research and can't find any such place that matches any of the numbers that are reported here.
- Annoyed again! replies to Christi Thompson| 1 reply1-888-502-5665 is a mobile phone# out of ANDHRA PRADESH, India. The service provider is Tata DOCOMO. If you paid anything to anyone that left this number as a call back#, your a sucker.

- FedUpThis "Michael Reynolds" person from "TAC Warrant" division has been calling my mom and leaving messages for her for a month, almost every day. One time, he screwed up his script and hung up before he finished the call. He's also threatened that TAC was finally giving up and turning her over to authorities, but, the next day, he was back to the original script, complete with the "good luck with your case" sign off he says. This is an obvious scam. Also, good luck with "TAC" filing anything with the state attorney's office in my mom's city; they don't have an office there.
