Large red screen appeared on my computer supposedly from Microsoft Tech Support say that my computer may have Trojan virus, and not to shut down computer, but to call this #. I have anti-virus software on computer, so I ignored it; Looks like a scam to me !

I got the same thing.  I scanned with Avast and no problems.  This is definitely a scam! Microsoft Tech Support does not monitor our computers!

My mother in law received the same screen on her computer saying her computer had been hacked and to please call this number.  She called the number and the person said he was from Microsoft and they detect 216 viruses on her computer.  They at first said she needed to pay $850 for them to fix it.  She said that’s more then the cost of the computer. Then they went down to $150.  My mother in law told them she’s not going to pay that.  So they rudely hang up the phone on her!

Likewise, I have had the same red screen and virus alert. I did call, but the tech[?] who answered seemed so unofficial it made my 'Spidy sense' tingle - I hastily hung up.

I have received this "alert" 3 times in the past week. Thankfully, I know not to respond. I also ran a virus check, and everything is okay. This scam has been reported on the news recently. I am grateful for 800notes. I do not answer calls from numbers I don't recognize or come up as unknown.

I received this same 'beautiful' bright red screen with the ominous message clearly formulated to scare me to death. But some of their adjectives and verbs were incorrectly used in the message. I called Microsoft instead of the number in the onscreen message. Microsoft indicated the number in the message was NOT theirs and that it was most likely a scam. Microsoft then offered to scan my computer to ensure safety. All is well! Ignore these predators and NEVER respond to messages you did not initiate!

I got the same thing. I don't know why people who write these things use !'s. I suppose a real person could use that, but it seems like that is a tell.

Just had it pop up myself. Called them and acted all concerned. It was hillarious. Give them a call and toy with them, its fun.

I got the same thing today, screen filled with red - Warning of critical error & to call this 888 number. My anti-virus system detects nothing, but my anti-tracking found at least a dozen tracking attempts blocked during the 3 hours prior to getting this "warning".  Ha-Ha, better luck next time.

Got the red screen saying my financial information has been compromised.  Googled the number and found this.  I figured it was a scam.  Thanks for the confirmation.

Same red screen as everyone else, ran my antivirus, no problems. I just wonder how they get it to pop up like that?

How does this get through the firewall and and security programs?  I have a newer laptop and a very old laptop.  Was working on both at the same time and this warning came up on my new one but not my old one.  Is it Microsoft 10???

I would like to know the same - - how is this getting through?  It is a scam, but I would think antivirus protection would keep it from popping up at all.
