Almost fell for it. As soon as they started recommendations for security and I asked about charges then said I needed to make some calls and would call back they hung up. Now running full scans of both Kaspersky  and Maleware Bites

I also have been getting this all this week, am anti virus protected and also wonder how it gets thru.  Ran this number thru reverse look up.  The only thing that it states is that it is a U.S. number.   I called and rattled their chain they thought they would harass me by calling back ,  they obviously have call display.   Finally on they last call I told them they had reached a local police department and that they now would be tracked and if possbile have criminal charges laid.  Havent heard back.   Note: when they call back they have blocked the number they call from.

Red Screen for Google Chrome...it's not a virus, it's a redirect to a different site, they are trying to scare you into giving up personal information...

Same as everyone else reported above.
Very annoying! I could see where people would be concerned and even call the number back. This should be illegal.

I got the same red screen as everyone else.  What struck me was the poor grammar.  I figured it had to be a scam from overseas.  English is definitely not their first language.  I hope Microsoft is aware.

Same here just now, and it locked up Chrome so all I could do was restart computer.  I ran CCleaner and dumped everything and damn tab was still there when I opened Chrome, but then just vanished. I called the number several times via computer site, and it's either busy, or rings and rings, then cuts off.  Damn scammers!  GET A REAL JOB!

You can do a web search on the text of the error message and get some idea of how to clean this up.  As you know, any number contained in the pop-up is going to take you straight to the scammers.  There are some good programs on the web, and to be extra careful, go to the actual website, rather than follow links from a site that says they are "reviewing" the software.  Sadly, sometimes those links lead to more problems, the "reviews" are traps for the unwary.

Got the red screen a few minutes ago while on Chrome browser doing an eBay search (not signed in).  It said Google Chrome Critical ERROR etc., consult one of our service centers or call this number, and kept me from changing to another tab or closing the browser.  Restarted laptop and ran Norton scan, found nothing, ran Spybot scan, nothing.

I am so dumb and hate to admit I called them. They answered several questions and seemed legit. I allowed remote access and immediately became skeptical. I told them to get off my computer. I restated and am running a Norton scan now. Is there anything else I should do? My computer is under warranty and I am working on changing passwords for bank... I'm really freaked out!

They seem to be sympathetic and do not tell you not to do certain things. They get more sophisticated at their nasty habit
