Scammers can spoof any number. My guess is that "Rich" is one of them. The sentence he wrote is a dead giveaway.

I can confirm that this number is indeed a BMO customer service number. They are calling to address your credit issue in order for you to stay on track. They care, else they'd have just forward your late payment to the credit agencies

Keep in mind, even IF it is the legitimate company for this number, it doesn't mean scammers won't spoof it to trick victims into givng up personal information.

This is a legitamite BMO credit number, Ive been given this number by the bank directly when I requested to contact someone to switch around some payments on a new card. If somebody is spoofing them (which is possible) then that's another story, just call the bank (that number - spoofs only go one way the number you call back will be the real number) instead of providing information on the original call, and provide your name, if you have an account they'll have your information and see why, if you do not then chances are a previous account holder has your number on record, just explain the situation and it should be settled.

OK, when someone I know gives me a phone number, I don't usually look it up on the internet and I doubt anyone else would take the time as well.  Which would beg the question why did you?

You people are all overly paranoid and probably for no good reason. I worked for BMO, and 1-888-676-2269 is the COLLECTIONS department (Account Management Unit, and yes the number is listed directly on their website). Either your credit card, loan, mortgage, or line of credit is missing a payment or a payment was late and therefore your account automatically entered the system. If the person calling you does not answer it is because they work on a dialler system that automatically calls out up to 5 numbers at once and the first customer to pick up will connect with the agent, the rest of the calls are dropped. If you are not a BMO customer and getting these calls, it could be for a number of reasons - 1) you have a car loan that you were not aware was set up through BMO (yes this is possible,  I've spoken with clients whose dealership set them up with BMO and they were not aware), 2) your phone number was placed on another person's account because it was their old number OR as an error, and 3) you are a victim of fraud and someone has used your identity for credit card fraud and therefore the bank is calling you to collect payment.

Either way, if you are receiving a call from anyone claiming to be a bank, just ensure you do not give out information. BMO Collections will call you and will not ask you your personal information HOWEVER they will confirm with you the information they ALREADY HAVE on file is accurate. They will say is **** still your address? If you say no, they will ask if you will update your address to which you can simply say no if you are uncomfortable. If you confirm they have correct information they will NEVER ask you for your information on an outbound call. If you are calling this number they will ask for your name and phone number and 2 other forms of identity confirmation i.e. your address, DOB, etc. This is to protect their clients information.

Any branch or other BMO department who tells you that 1-888-676-2269 is not a BMO number is simply ignorant - and yes I have encountered these people working for BMO before.

If you are not comfortable speaking over the phone with the bank just let them know, and they will advise you to go to your nearest branch. You can tell them the number that called out, or say Account Management or Collections. Otherwise if the branch still doesn't know why you were called, just make sure all your accounts and payments are up to date and if still concerned check with Equifax/Transunion to ensure there is no fraud going on. It is best NOT to ignore these calls entirely because often people do and then months or years later we have received calls of people concerned about their credit scores because they ignored the bank for months on end.

Be safe, but be smart people!

It would be nice if your company didn't call at 7 am in the morning. I have terminal cancer and I do not sleep well. So getting harassed at 7 am is not acceptable. As well, your company has the wrong number which I have told them multiple times. The personal they are looking for doesn't live here and I don't know why they are calling my line for someone so don't know.

Legit BMO accounts/collections caller - I missed a payment. Always good to verify sources, and if you are in doubt, call the number on your account info instead to make sure.

Called almost daily for weeks but message always incomplete. Called back and it is BMO collection service gave them some personal information and they stated there is no reason for them to be calling my number. Spent about twelve minutes wasting their time and of course mine.Hopefully the calls will end otherwise twelve minutes of my time and their time will be wasted for each call they make.Gives me something to do now that I'm retired.

I continue to get voicemail from this number implying that it has something to do with my accounts.
I go on line and all my accounts are good!! So WTF do they keep calling me and telling me to call them back??
I think it's like someone mentioned previously, that perhaps someone has spoofed the number and maybe they're hoping that I/we are dumb enough to call them back giving out details of our bank account(s)...
But regardless and IMO, BMO is the WORST bank in Canada, and I've dealt with almost every Canadian  banking firm in my lifetime!
Even their call centre is terrible, leaving you on HOLD for well over an hour and up to almost 2 hours!
And the lineups inside the bank, omg you can stand there will over and hour!!
I find it odd tho, how BMO has billions of dollars in the green, according to the quarterly financials, and yet they don't hire more bank tellers so that we don't have to stand in lineups for over an hour.
And their website is so technically far behind other institutions that it gets quite frustrating!
Come on BMO, get with the times or get a new Webmaster to design your website and make an app that does what all other banking institutions apps do!!!
