I just had the exact same thing happen to me. I had to listen to the call several times to understand what he was saying; had a very thick accent, almost incoherent.

I had the same thing..saying they have a warrant against my ssn..had my lawyer call and it is a scam..but they will not stop. And if they call your work then you can make a report to the attorney general..that usually helps.

Getting constant calls from this number looking for one of our employees. We are a place of business with multiple lines and they are calling every line and tying up phone lines.  Even called Sheriff's department and they were here as they kept calling. He even talked to the guy and instructed that criminal charges would be filed.  Calls continued.  Trying to get something done through our phone company, but so far nothing has helped.

Just had it happen to me. Called me about 8 times at work demanding I pay them immediately or I'll lose my job and be arrested. same # 888-708-7701 and 866-812-2623. Only his name was Shawn Miller. Amazing how all these foreigners have simple American names !!

This number 1-888-708-7701 kept calling me saying that I have a civil suit being filed on my name and social and that I should not ignore their call. So I called them back and asked them how they could sleep at night. Stealing money from innocent people. I threatened to contact my own lawyer and they hung up. Just turn it around on them. Call them and harass them they will stop calling. These companies buy your information from other companies . They can get like 350 names for like 100.00. And ANYONE can Purchase a n 800 number if they say they are a business. So  think about it, if they even trick half of those people into paying them they make serious money. The trick is to spread the word. If u know that u have not done anything wrong....... then tell them so. Normally every time I threaten to contact my own lawyer or law enforcement they tuck their tails and run. GOOD LUCK

Today at work I got MULTIPLE calls from this number. Every time I hung up they'd call right back. They were looking for one of our employees saying it was a legal matter. I told them to call back, even threatened him right back, but he kept calling. Finally I asked who was calling and what the phone number was, and the idiot told me! Said his name was Matthew Holt (yeah, right, this guy was from India). I went and asked the employee about it and he said it was a scam, he'd googled the 888-708-7701 and came up with this site. The calls eventually stopped, and if they happen again I'll let them know I intend to call the Attorney General.

Legit collectors per section 809 of the FDCPA http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf *must* tell you at initial contact, or send you paperwork within 5 days of initial contact, the following:
    1. $amount of debt,
    2. name of the current creditor (which may differ from the original creditor who might have sold your debt),
    3. a statement that that debt will be assumed to be valid unless you dispute in writing within 30 days,
    4. a statement that that if you do dispute in writing within 30 days, the collector must mail you written verification of the debt,
    5. a statement that if you ask the collector in writing within 30 days, the collector must send you the name and address of the original creditor if it's different from the current creditor.
If you don't get the 5 disclosures, orally or in writing (you do not have to ask for them, the FDCPA requires collectors to provide them), treat the collector like you would any SCAMMER.
Has the statute of limitations for your state http://www.fair-debt-collection.com/SOL-by-State.html expired on your debt? If expired, don't pay.
Collectors generally have to be licensed by your state to practise (collect debt) in your state and you can find out by calling your state Attorney Generals Office. Ask if a license is required and does this collector have one. If not licensed, don't pay and file a complaint.
Be aware that scammers are using bought/hacked/phished loan application data to extort payments for fictitious debts from victims and victims' families and friends.
The FBI warns about payday loan extortion scams here http://www.fbi.gov/news/pressrel/press-releases/paydayloanscam_120710
The BBB has issued several alerts on this scam, just google "bbb.org alert phony debt collector"
Report to the Internet Crime Complaint Center http://www.ic3.gov/complaint/default.aspx , the Federal Communications Commission http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm , the Federal Trade Commission https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ and your state AG, as appropriate.

I just received the same call regarding a "collection" I have with them.  888-708-7701 Tony Johnson....he sounds like this may be coming from an India call center....thick accent!!  Cound barely understand him....he wanted a fax number to send documents, which I told him I would not do as if this is a personal matter, I will await certified documentation sent to my home address, since he should have that if this is legit. This customer service collection person was literally hollaring at me as I stated if this is a personal matter call my personal phone numbers.  I let him know that I will contact local police department if these harrassing calls did not stop!  AUGH.....
