- Mike| 1 replyA Lyn Martinez of ACH Services Fraud Division (888) 729-4798 Extension 528, left a message threatening various in sundry legal action against me.
This was the fifth call I have received from this company, the previous calls from different phone numbers, same company. I returned at least four of the calls and requested various parties at ACH Services remove my number from their database, and each time was assured they would, but to date the calls continue.
ACH Services is apparently looking for someone with a similar name as myself, and I have a very common name. Their investigators apparently provided them with bogus information to begin with--why would they be call me otherwise?--yet this does not explain the continued harassing phone calls.
The latest call we received from ACH Services was today Dec 18, 2009 at 8:13 AM. When returning this call my wife and I informed the folks at ACH Services that in the State of Washington harassment of this nature is a crime, and that if the calls persist, we will report them to the Attorney General's office.
I'd advise others do the same.- Caller: ACH Services

- DLaySomeone named Michael Matthews of ACH Services Fraud Division left a message on my voice mail, claiming that my name was brought up in a pending Fraud Case. They even had a Case Number for me. I did not call back because I didn't have the slightest idea what he was talking about. Instead I decided to google the phone number.. Also, they came up as Private Caller on my called ID.

- EvilSuperman replies to MikeI received the same calls and spoke with the before mentioned ACH Services - Lynn Martinez who answered the call and states she has removed this number from there list. I am not willing to give them any warning. Seeing that they represent Lawyers they should now the rule's I am instead taking a list of every call they place from this day forward date time and message left and will be filing FEDERAL harassment charges as well as a civil law suit to recover my time lost in dealing with this. And seeing this involves my EX not me it is even more irritating so I’ll be looking for personal damages also.
This is not only going to be posted here but I am sending an email to their contact email, not my problem if they don’t read it. I am keeping record of every infraction they make and suing their pants off when I get enough to do so.
This unscrupulous behavior of companies thinking they can just do what ever they want is why places like this are a need we must have, but the only way to stop it is to take them out at the knees legally and grind their companies into the dust. I’m sorry for the people who lose their jobs but I’m not going after them just their boss’s boss who owns the responsibility of the wrong doing.
Understand big company owner I am coming for Your wallet, Your home, Your peace and quiet! There will not be any way to hide from that a jury of people just like me will be your judge. And you have ticked off to many of us for you to win. - AimsI got a call from ACH Services from Tony Wright. They gave me a case number. When I called. I recieved a case number and was reported to there so called "Fraud Division". In the past year I have recieved other calls regarding this matter and it was indeed a scam and I was told to pay or else, I was going to pay it, and I recieved an email from the company who did the orginal pay day loan, and said a scam was going around trying to get people to pay back defaulted loans, although I never did recieve an answer on how they got my records, they had bank infomation, SSN#, Addresses, and phone numbers of friends and family, I took their empty threat and blew it off, I advise everyone else to do the same.

Attorney General Darrell McGraw took the extraordinary step today of warning the public about a band of scam artists making threats to consumers who allegedly obtained Internet payday loans in West Virginia and across the nation. The consumers they threaten never obtained a loan at all or paid it off years ago.
Internet payday loans are short-term loans or cash advances, usually for 14 days, made over the Internet via interactive web sites and secured by an agreement authorizing debits of the loan and all fees owed from the consumer’s checking account. These loans typically charge interest rates ranging from 600-800 APR and are unlawful in West Virginia.
The scam artists, who speak English with a foreign accent, call themselves “U.S. National Bank,” “Federal Investigation Bureau,” “United Legal Processing” and numerous other phony names. They refuse to disclose real names and addresses and are believed to be operating “off the grid” from homes, automobiles, or from off shore locations or foreign countries, including India. Since the scammers have kept themselves purposely well hidden, thus far no law enforcement agencies have succeeded in locating or shutting them down.
The scammers typically pose as law enforcement officers, investigators, lawyers, and bankers and threaten consumers that they will be arrested for “bank fraud” or other fictitious crimes unless money is wired immediately. They simultaneously scare and confuse consumers by using meaningless legalese gobbledygook phrases such as, “We are downloading warrants against you” or “We are filing an affidavit against you.” Consumers who don’t immediately fall for the scam are warned, “Only God can help you now.”
The scammers almost always call consumers at work several times a day, and tell their supervisors, “Your employee has committed fraud and is about to be arrested.” Such threats have proven unsettling even to the most savvy consumers and employers who suspect the calls are fraudulent.
Attorney General McGraw stated, “Ordinarily my office protects consumers from fraudulent activities by seeking injunctions in court. But legal action cannot be taken until the scam artists can be located. Even then, it is unlikely that the persons behind the fraudulent calls and extortionist threats would obey a court order. In this case, the consumer’s best defense is to be armed with the knowledge of the scam so that all demands for money can be resisted, despite the false but scarey threats of arrest.”
McGraw added, “Because the fraudsters make a special point of calling consumers repeatedly at work, employers must understand that the consumers are innocent victims of a criminal enterprise and cannot stop the calls from coming. I also wish to assure the citizens of West Virginia that my office will continue to do everything possible to locate and shut down the outlaw debt collectors.”
More information about this fraudulent debt collection scheme is available at the Attorney General’s website, www.wvago.gov/internetloanscam. Any consumers who have been threatened by these persons or wish to file a complaint about another consumer matter may do so by calling the Consumer Protection Hot Line, 1-800-368-8808, or by obtaining a complaint form from the Attorney General’s web site.
It's a debt collection scam. And all their threats are false and illegal.
This is a very active group of scammers, many of whom are calling from India (and probably other countries) and are in cahoots with a group of American pay day loan scammers. They attempt to extort money from consumers with a myriad of false and illegal threats, and alternately pose as debt collectors, federal and state law enforcement officers, lawyers and bankers. Their trademark is to use meaningless legalese gobblygook phrases like "We are downloading warrants against you" or "We are filing an affidavit against you." Another trademark phrase is to threaten the consumer with something like this ridiculous phrase: "If you don't pay then only God can help you."
Typical of many financial scams of this variety, they usually demand payment via Western Union or MoneyGram or credit card. They use any number of phony names such as US National Bank, Federal Investigation Bureau, US Legal Investigation Bureau, Hopkins Law Office, United Legal Processing, Morgan Associates, United Pay Services, National Processing, White Collar Crime Unit and many more. These criminals also use many phone numbers from many area codes; they're probably using caller-id spoofing software and/or VoIP to disguise their real location.
The main thing to remember is that anytime someone calls you demanding money to prevent your arrest, or demanding your lawyer's name so they can sue you, it is ALWAYS a scam. No debt collector (let alone criminals posing as debt collectors) has the authority to have anyone arrested for anything. (And it's illegal to them to threaten such a thing.) And since these foreign dirtbags routinely impersonate law enforcement, it's also important to remember that American law enforcement officers aren't in the business of debt collection. (Debt is a civil, not a criminal, matter.)
The bottom line is, these are criminals trying to steal your money.
A consumer posting a complaint about these same scammers at https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-718-831-7157 notes that 718-831-7157 is associated with an India-based "outsourcing" telephone bank. Though a reverse search on WhitePages.com shows that 718-831-7157 is an unlisted land line in New York City, information on Debtbuyers.Com shows that that number is used by India-based Intellisourze. (Source: http://www.debtbuyers.com/debtbuyers.asp ) My guess is that it's a VoIP phone number.
This is another piece of the puzzle that fits in perfectly with other information about this scam. There are some reports on 800Notes that have suggested that the crooks behind this offshore scam are also the crooks behind the notorious Bass/Ellis Crosby & Assoc./States Predisposition scams in Florida and Georgia. The interesting thing is that the number of complaints on here about the US National Bank/US Legal Investigation/Federal Investigation scam skyrocketed *after* April 7, 2008 when Florida obtained a $1.3 million judgment against Ted Ellis Crosby, shutdown his operations and barred him from ever conducting debt collections in Florida (Read http://myfloridalegal.com/newsrel.nsf/newsrel ... 5257424005858A6 ) There's certainly a good chance that the crooks placing these calls from India are doing so on behalf of the American crooks behind the Crosby/Bass/States Predisposition scams.
Here's the contact information for the phone bank in India:

A check on the domain name "intellisourze.com" shows that the website and name registration was created on May 8, just one month *after* the Crosby scams were shut down in Florida:

(Source: http://whois.domaintools.com/intellisourze.com )
Though scam calls from these crooks have been going on long before May 8, the frequency of complaints about these calls increased considerably after Crosby was shut down in early April.
This is conjecture, but appearances suggest that Crosby and company were originally running a two-pronged payday loan scam operation -- with some calls being made from Jacksonville, Florida and other calls being made from a phone bank in India (and possibly other countries); then, after the Florida Attorney General shut down the Crosby scams in Florida, the Crosby crooks transferred most of their scam efforts to the India phone bank.
If you are targeted by these criminals, be sure to report them to all the following federal and state law enforcement agencies (most of which you can do online or over the phone):
1. The U.S. Secret Service is responsible for protecting the country's financial infrastructure and payment systems from international and domestic threats. Call or write your local Secret Service field office to alert them to the details of this attempted extortion. The addresses and phone numbers for the local Secret Service field offices are listed at http://www.secretservice.gov/field_offices.shtml or in your phone book.
2. Alert the FBI at https://tips.fbi.gov Be sure to tell the FBI that you are being targeted by extortionists over the phone. And if the crooks claim to be law enforcement or lawyers, officers of the court or bankers, be sure to include that information in your report.
3. File a complaint with your local police. Most police departments will take a report over the phone. Be sure to tell them that you're being targeted by an extortionist and give them all the details.
4. File a complaint your state's attorney general, the contact information for whom is at www.wvago.gov
5. File a complaint online with The Federal Trade Commission at https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/FTC_Wizard.aspx?Lang=en
If these crooks call back, promise them nothing, pay them nothing and tell them nothing other than that you know they're a scam and that you've reported them to law enforcement. (And be sure to report them to all the agencies above each time they call you.)
By the way, here's just a small sample of numbers used by this particular group of scammers. Read the reports and you'll see the same pattern time and again -- phony organization names, thick foreign accents, and oddly worded threats that are so melodramatic and ridiculous that it's laughable:

Scam alert: Bogus debt collectors
By Leslie McFadden • Bankrate.com
Monday, Aug. 3
Posted 2 p.m.
Bankrate reporter Leslie McFadden contributed this entry.
This scam isn't technically about credit cards, but it is scary enough to post a warning. The Better Business Bureau issued an alert today saying consumers across the country are getting phone calls from bogus debt collectors claiming default on a payday loan. Of course, the consumer needs to pay a large fee to avoid arrest -- as much as $1,000.
The caller poses as a lawyer, and may threaten extradition to face trial if the consumer doesn't pay up immediately.
What makes these calls alarming -- and perhaps convincing -- is that the perpetrators reference the consumer's personal information, such as the person's Social Security number, driver's license number, previous bank account numbers, home address -- even personal references.
"The amount of information they have is really troubling," says BBB spokeswoman Alison Southwick. She adds that the amount of data points to a possible security breach.
Spread the word to your friends and family: Don't give out personal or financial information to an unknown caller. Scammers can spoof Caller ID to display different numbers, so trust your instincts over technology.
The BBB offers these tips:
• Ask the debt collector to provide official documentation which substantiates the debt.
• Do not provide or confirm any bank account, credit card or other personal information over the phone until you have confirmed the legitimacy of the call.
• File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission online if the caller is abusive, uses threats or otherwise violates federal telemarketing laws or the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
• File a complaint with the Better Business Bureau online if you believe a debt collector is trying to scam you. - macI got a call from a Tony Wright from ACH Services calling for a brother of mine. After inquiring about the call, Tony told me it was a legal matter and that they would be forced to make descisions about this matter if they could not get a hold of my brother. He gavve me case#445234 and the call back number of 888-729-4798.
I am so glad i decided to do a search cause I knewn something was not right. I hope everyone out there follows the advice and reports these types of calls to the proper law enforcement. That is what i am doing!!!!- Caller: ACH Services

- smarternowReceived a call from "Mr. Green" 716-206-2024 , but left the number 888-729-4798 to call back regarding a legal matter and left a case number. After reading this board, called the state attorneys office and reported the company. The state of Colorado has had several hundred complaints on ACH Services, which is not a legitimate business name in the State of New York (716 is a New York Prefix). In Colorado you do not have to ask for permission to record a call, the DA's office said "Tape that call" when and if they call back, which after reading this board, I'm sure they will. Hopefully if enough people fight back, these scammers will be shut down just like these guys. http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2009/06/ny_debt.html

- DH replies to DougBrian Davis called me several times telling me that I have been turned into the Fraud division for an unpaid payday loan from 5 years ago. I have consulted with an attorney and my attorney said that they can not do this and to report them to the Attorney generals office which I did on Friday. They just called my mom on her birthday and told them that they wanted to know where I was so they could serve me with papers. They violated my privacy by telling my mother what they were calling about! If they work for an attorney then they should know that when you call someone that is not the person you are looking for, they do not have a right to discuss personal business with anyone other than the person they need to talk with and they would not tell where they were calling from so why would you discuss the business? I will be turning them in to everyone I can. Their practices are wrong and when i told them i would mail the payment in (to make sure this was legit, they said only by electronic funds. If they want my payment bad enough, they will allow me to pay it by mail.
Thanks for the info and I am going to original debtor before I pay anything to these scammers. - Steve| 1 replyI've gotten several phone call messages saying a Christine V has been named as a "party of interest" and that "decisions will be made without your knowledge." I don't even know who Christine V is.
- KellyI have been getting calls from different people company for almost two years. They go away for a while and the come back. I have always been said I will be served papers. - Oregon| 2 repliesI just got off the phone with my dad. A "James Collins" called (dad's girlfriend's landline, I think) with a case number and call back number 888-729-4798. Dad's girlfriend said he made it sound like he was a lawyer or something. This sounded fishier than the month old sushi in the back of the fridge so I Googled the number and got a bit of deja vu (see my post (Oregon 17 Jun 2009 for phone number 8882287519 as well as the update/reply I posted today.) So I checked out a TextEdit file I saved with the info from the other company.
Longstoryshort: I vaguely remember taking out a payday loan from Advance America a few years ago. In June '09 I was called by a company calling themselves IRS Inc (Income Recovery Services, NOT the real government IRS.) Fortunately the girl on the line was dumb enough to give me all the info I needed to verify that the loan was mine and it was correct. She asked me to hold and then a "Travis Rogers" (who is apparently the Director of Operations) got on the line and tried to strongarm me into setting up a payment arrangement ("today, I can't guarantee you this offer will be available tomorrow") He said that his business was a legal office, that they had purchased a portfolio of debts that they were now trying to collect on (but they are not a collections agency.) Supposedly if I didn't take care of this matter through them, they would go through the Benton County (OR) court system. We'll, I didn't pay them and, kind of like the day after Y2K, nothing happened. I haven't gotten a summons/registered letter, etc. or anything else until I got this second call (apparently from a different company, but they gave the same case number.) Anyway, I'm not going to call them back. I'm going to try to get a hold of Advance America directly to pay back my loan. (I sent them an email when this first started, but they never emailed me back.) So, "Lamet" you seem to think this is a complete and total, 100% scam and any post that's in the vein of "I called these guys and we worked it out" or "I ignored them & now I'm going to court/wages getting garnished" is fake. I know for a fact I have an old debt, but are you saying it would be better to go directly through Advance America if I can? Do you think this company is/is related to IRS Inc. or do you think it's just another company doing the same thing? Thanks...- Caller: ACH

- Oregon replies to Oregon| 1 replyOnemorething: I think shortly after this happened the first time I ordered a credit report and the Advance America debt was not on there. Don't you think if the debt was reported to a legit collection agency (especially that long ago, I guess I took the loan out in 2006) it would be on a credit report? Is there a possibility that the debt was written off and these companies are using public records to get enough info to try to scam & collect on them? Thanks...

- DawnThey have been calling me for over a year, threatening me and such until I just stopped answering. Today they called but with a phone number that has the same area code that I live in and from a city that is about an hour or so away from me. So they have obtained a number from my state (which you can do that through vonage and kall8 - and I am sure other providers). SO be careful of them ... they are sneaky.
