- JB| 2 repliesWhile paying my phone bill for 11/25-12/24, I noticed a long distance charge for $3.95. As I always use my cell phone for long distance, I know I did not call 1-888-757-6500. As there were so many unknown numbers calling during the elections, I deleted many w/o thinking about it....so not absolutely certain what caller ID said.
However, I do remember once Bell South came up on caller ID..offering me lower rate on my charge card. Only problem, I had never heard of a Bell South charge card...and when I stated this, connection went dead. When I did contact AT&T re this, I was told BellSouth no longer exists and they are not even to use the word...and could offer no advice.
I just tried calling the 1-888-757-6500 to report it and was told they are experiencing heavy call volume...perhaps to call back later. Great service!!!!- Caller: Bell South

- Jean replies to JB| 1 replyI also noticed under "plans & services" the 888-757-6500 number along with my PIN #. I had 3 out of area calls totaling $1.34 plus surcharges and fees of $2.28...more than the calls themselves. Something stinks.
Frankly, anything that AT & T touches usually stinks. - concernedI received a post card with this number on it saying I had requested local service, which I had not. When I called to make sure no such service had been ordered, they asked for my social security number which I did not provide.
They tried to seem legitimate by transfering me to the correct area of the country which suppposedly covered my state, but after several minutes the line went dead. Phone was answered with AT&T tag initially, but when they tried to transfer me, another operator said a different company name and then clicked off.
Seems fishy. - brain21I got the automated call and was suspicious. Instead of calling that number back, I just dialed 611 from my phone. I talked to someone there, and they verified that 888-757-6500 is indeed AT&T Customer Service.
Mine was not for new services. They said that on April 10th I called up and gave a new email address and tried to add service. I did neither. The AT&T rep I talked to told me to call that number during normal biz hrs. I called 3 mins after I received the call. They should have the calls during biz hours too.
When I call back tomorrow, I will dial 611 again to verify I get the right people and have them transfer me to take care of the issues that the call noted.
So, it seems to be legit.- Caller: AT&T

- SpoofySome of these calls seem legit, some not. It sounds very much like someone is spoofing AT&T's caller ID. This is incredibly easy to do if you know how and have the right setup. I'm no bad guy, but I can call you with anyone's caller ID info displayed - even your own. And I also should mention that you can do this from anywhere in the world. I can do it with a laptop sitting in a motel room in Ghana, or in a nice office park in Los Angeles using a top of the line PBX. Or, in my case, from the comfort of my home. With certain types of phone service, it is up to you to set the caller ID info. There is a legitimate reason for this. Businesses, hospitals, motels, and others need this feature to direct incoming calls to a central number, to protect privacy, and to control access to sensitive numbers. Anyway, if you are a crook trying to seem credible, what better way than to display the real phone number and caller name for whoever you are pretending to be? Unfortunately, these kinds of things erode the web of trust necessary to maintain a civil society. One can no longer accept things at face value. Is that phone call really who it says it is? Is that email actually from my bank? These kinds of crimes could be greatly reduced, but instead, the powers that be are too busy implementing a command and control economy and Karl Marx is dancing the happy dance in his grave.

- PamranHubby got a call on his PREPAID cell about his bill, so I used our home phone, called the # and got hold of someone who sent me to cell phone CS who, after I explained the fact that we don't have an AT&T Cell Phone, and its a preapid one, so there would never be an issue with a bill even with our carrier, and she took his cell phone number and blocked it so they would not call us again. Hopefully it worked. If it does - thank you Diana!
