I received the text message and so did my mom. We have a family account and she did call the phone number (the number that the text is from isn't the one they want you to call. It's just the computer number that's sending you the automated text). And she did give the info and they were just telling her that her bill was late. So this is legit. The last 4 digits of your social security are used as a password, if you don't want it to use those change your account password. And they text you as a warning. Then call you if it's actually going to be shut off.
    So in the end: LEGIT

I got the same text message as everyone else but I ended up getting it twice.  The second one said they were going to interupt my account so I called the number.  It is ligit.  I ended up calling verizon just to make sure.  It's ligit, so don't be wary.

Okay, you guys seriously need to think.  If you have a verizon phone, dial 611.  That takes you directly into Verizon.  Ask them.  I got the ame message and called 611.  the girl informed me that our cc had expired and we had forgotten to give them the new number.  No what, she was right.

If all I did was look up stuff on the internet and deleted the message, I wouldn't have a phone.

This is NOT a scam. Also got "Financial Services." In both texts I received, both were accurate regarding my bill and current usage trend (which was escalating due to 17-yr old son's inadvertent data usage). Called the 1-888-821-0284 number from my work phone and talked to Verizon. The representative stated that some of their texts show a "900-070- ...." number. But it is a routing source # and NOT a 1-900 number. I did let Verizon know that their text message routing source #s are causing great concern with customers, and that there is a LOT of traffic about it.

This is a courtesy service that VZW offers and you don't have to wait until your service is disrupted to call them. Makes the family a tad upset that dad didn't pay the bill! Because VZW texted me as a pre-emptive, I was able to avoid disconnection, plus any $15 per line charges.

If you're at all concerned, call *611 from your cell instead of dialing the number in the text. But the number IS a valid VZW number.

I was suspicious too.  Turns out it is probably legit.  I didn't call the number, but it turns out that my wife did forget to pay the bill last month, so there is good reason for them to be contacting me.  I really think they should have some way of letting you know it is legit though, like using your full name even, or something.

Those of you stating this is a scam are posting without knowing what you're talking about.

Yes, Verizon DOES text if you owe them money... maybe those of you who have never GOTTEN a text from Verizon actually pay your bills on time and don't go into overdue status.  But you can't claim Verizon doesn't text; you can only claim YOU have never been texted by Verizon.

As someone who consistently falls behind, I know they do text.

If you're super leary, it's a no-brainer.  You get the text... then you just do a "#PMT" from your phone and make the payment from there.

You all who are talking without knowing what you're talking about are doing as much disservice as those who are scammers.  Sheesh!

My reason for sharing my opinion is to help those who come here and think that text is a scam and don't go further to investigate its validity.

The number 888-821-0284 is Verizon Wireless financial services. It comes from a strange caller ID though.

You can call 611 and get the same info just by speaking to an operator... so when in doubt... do that. Best of luck!

I received the following text message:
"Plesae call Verizon Wireless at 888-821-0284 or press the send key on your phone regarding your account.  This is a free text message."
I called Verizon by calling 611... and was told that this message DID NOT COME FROM THEM... that my account was paid in full, current, in good standing, and had no notes attached to it as to why anyone there would need to call me.  THIS MUST BE A SCAM and someone needs to check it out.

I just got this same text message.  It does seem fishy, so I logged into my Verizon Wireless account online to check my balance.  I always pay my bill online...they do NOT have a credit card on file.  My account balance was ZERO.  Thus, I'm deleting the message as spam.

Checking into a suspicious text message does not make someone a moron...it makes them wise.

It's a SCAM, don't listen to these momos claiming it's not. They're the goons getting paid to get unsuspecting people to hit send to the 900 number. Once that's done, congratulations on your new monthly bill every month. You scammers in on this need to die in a fire or get a real job.

Verizon DOES NOT CONTACT YOU FROM A 900 NUMBER. Call customer service and verify this. Spread the word to avoid these tools trying to get rich off your hard work.

These scammers are going to all the sites their number is on to make it look even more legit. GET A REAL JOB AND STOP ROBBING PEOPLE WHO DO EARN THEIR LIVING.

It's a SCAM, DO NOT HIT SEND ON THE TEXT. Contact Verizon directly.

Same as above. I didn't call 611, and I'm not sure it would matter because everyone on here has a different opinion on the subject.

I should say though, I always ignore these kind of texts because my phone is a secondary line on a family plan. Why wouldn't they text the phone number from the primary account holder? Even if I did call the number, I don't know my dad's social, so it's not like I could even get in. It's stupid if it's real.

    Scammers
The people claiming it's legit or real are in on it.

It's a scam, I went through with it just to test what would happen - $9.95 charge on my bill this month. You scammers need to do something legit, EARN money like everyone else does instead of LEECHING from people.

    Disgusting, absolutely disgusting

I just called the *611 to verify and it is legit, it is there finance department and sent if your account is past due.  Messages are loaded the previous night and even if payment is made, the messages are sent out to get you to call in.  Easiest is as others have said, just call *611 to verfiy.
