DirectBuy is basically a scam.  They will not honor requests to stop calling and they do not follow the do-not-call list anyway.  Not much you can do about it..you can report to the FTC as a do-not-call violation, but it won't do any good.

Here is an employee that spilled his guts that I found online.

I actually work for the direct buy in the Michigan area. Let me tell you this we are a complete waste of time unless you make over 40k and are doing at least over 15k in projects for your home otherwise we wont save you much at all. (by the way if you just joined in most states its mandatory that they give you a full refund within the first week you entered into the contract, wait any longer without calling to withdraw and your stuck with us.) Im a Telemarketer, (something our company hates to say and prefers the term marketing rep) We are charged with the task of getting 40 ppl a week (per person… there are 6 “marketing reps” calling anyone that comes into our database from 3pm-9pm mon-fri) to come into our center by way of cold calling them and telling them they are semi-finalists in our 50k dollar home makeover. In fact one person wins this prize once every 6 months in the whole michigan area. We tell you that you’ll be sent a key and if it fits the lock in the showroom you’ll win the make over or the cash if you prefer. And to sweeten the pot we will give you 2 of the 5 bonus gifts (you will always get the $20 gift certificate and vacation package although I never found out where that is to, im assuming a local motel 6) just for trying your key. Afterwords we will ask if you are married (If so you and spouse must come in together theres really no way around it and if your single you must have 5k worth of home projects to be sent a pass) and then you’ll be asked if your between the ages of 25-60 (if you are older or younger you will not be sent a pass because they feel you dont make enough for the membership fee which i’ll get to later) then the final question do you make over or under 40k (only 40k or over will let you through) then my job ends but its hardly over for you. By the way you MUST simply MUST when we call you tell us to put you on the no call list if you dont want to be bothered. If you yell, slam the phone, ignore the phone, pretend to be someone else and say they are not interested, (which alot of ppl do) say they (you) arent home, etc etc then we will call again for the next 10-12 days until our computer filters you out and even then in 3 months later we will call you again and the cycle continues and direct buy gets the last laugh. From there you will be called by a booker who will confirm a date for you to come in (they will lure you with fake testimonials and tell you about the direct buy advantage) and will continue to call until they can do so. After you come in you will be treated to a video (yawn) and will be thrown sales pitches and will be given a tour of the sales room as well (this process will take about 90mins. After it is all over you will have to make a choice to either join or decline a membership. The cost for ours is $4,500 for 4 years and im not sure about any recurring fees for we are not told much ourselves. All our showrooms are privately owned so member fees and the like will vary from each center. You can also opt to pay $400 a month for 4 years at a 17.25% interest rate as well. If you do decline you will be banned from all centers for the next 7 years (a psychological sales approach) and we do keep your records because we all share the same operating system that keeps track of all our calls along with names numbers and addresses. Thats the fat of it and please allow me to beg please dont scream and curse at us who call you. Matter of fact 80% of us hate the place. I loath it and how they operate their center but the owners and the ppl who profit (our owners just bought a hummer) do not take the brunt of your anger we the peons over the phone do. So why do we stay…because dear reader this is Michigan and unemployment is our only other option and at only $9 per hr for 30hrs its better than nothing. Most of us are just out of college or working 2 jobs and none of us can even dream to afford to even member at our “respective” centers. If you are frustrated and want to see where the money goes ask for the owners. As for savings just Google the manufactures websites and buy directly from them (one of the things that direct buy prides itself in is that we can have you buy directly from the manufacturers and will show you a website that just basically takes you to their website which you can do yourself just by googling say "kenmore") believe me it’ll save you alot of time and misery.

Direct Buy left a recorded message on our answering machine informing us that we had won! I filed a complaint with the FCC's do not call list site.
May Direct Buy go out of business sooner rather than later.

Got the same call from Jessica too, 25,000 make over...the red alarm went off...this is the second time I had someone call about this, it was a different person several months ago.  I'm not interested in joining their club, they can take their club and hit themselves over the head with it!

Message I won a drawing for $25,000 .  One thing is for sure, they can't possibly give away so much money to so many people.  This is definitely a scam.

I received this call for winning a $25,000 Home Makeover as well. Again, it was from "Jessica, ext. 721" with the same exact message as everyone else on Friday, April 26th, 2013. I did call them back today but there was no answer, just kept ringing. This prompted me to Google the number and here I am. It's too bad that people have to stoop so low to promote themselves or scam us less fortunate. I do enter contests all the time but try to stick with what I see to be legitimate drawings(ie: Lowes, Better Homes & Gardens, Publishers, etc.). Should have known better if it sounds too good to be true...-wishful thinking!

got the same message.  Jessica called and left a voice message with the phone number 888-861-3741 x.721  I too have entered contest and thought, just maybe.  I called back 3 times and the phone just keeps ringing and ringing.  No one has ever picked up, so I thought I would Google the number to see if it was valid.  I see now that it's a scam.  I have had similiar situations happen before and DirectBuy was behind those too.

This post was very helpful. I got the same call is everyone else here, but after reading your posts and going to that directbuy website, I decided not to call them back. It might be a legitimate sweepstakes where someone actually wins something, but I just don't want to sit through a sales pitch to enter it. Thanks to all who posted here.

I responded to a call left on my answer machine from Jessica @ x721. Jessica was out. He asked for my phone number to confirm the entry (which I had filled out one in a shopping center less than a year ago) so he could search the computer and unfortunately for me, I gave it to him. He then asked me if I lived in and that I make at least $60,000 annually as he said that I checked off on the form. Then the fast talk saying that I won a choice of cruises on Carnival or two round trip tickets to Puerto Rico, etc. All I had to do was go to another city near where I live to claim my prize and I can still win the $25,000 home makeover. I told him I wanted the makeover and not the other gifts. And I asked that they remove my entry from the system. [Lesson learned after the fact.  : -/   However, learned.]  A Home Makeover would be nice. What a shame all the deceit coming from those whose real desire is for greed.

    SCAM ALERT!!
National Giveaway Center - purporting to be in Indianapolis, IN.
Supposedly I had entered a drawing for a "Gold Key" Giveaway for a $25,000 home makeover, and other fabulous prizes "about a year ago". Just out of curiosity (and being aware NOT to give out any personal info) I called them back. Although they left an extension number for Jessica at ext 721, I was told by a Crystal that "Jessica was busy".
When I wouldn't give my name & zip code "to verify I was who I said I was" (how would she know - I hadn't given her any information yet & she never referred to me by name...???) until she told me the name of the company she worked for & their location, then she became rather snotty and said if I didn't remember signing up for it, then I shouldn't be asking her for any information!

Search on the internet for this company name and/or any Gold Key giveaway promotion turn up ONLY this website. BBB has no listing for any such company in Indianapolis, IN, or anywhere else that I can find.

    Hhhhmmmm... RED FLAGS, anyone?

I called today and got the same reply. Can't remember the name of the guy I talked to though, but was told Jessica had gone to a meeting? I decided to do some research, because this is second time I've gotten a call stating that I had entered a contest and name had been drawn. They are careful not to say you have won.  Although, when this guy wanted to verify what contest I had entered and I asked him shouldn't he know that since thats why he's calling, he claimed he was calling because I had won and needed to verify my information and then at the end he switched and said I would be entered for a drawing this Sunday. When I called him on his lie, he tried to deny it. They are basically just verifying address, age and income range, so no confidential information, so I think it may be a company way of tricking people into doing surveys, since most people decline?

Very helpful messages here, had the exact same message left at my house, from one of the same women's names - when I googled the number the Caller ID said, prior to googling the callback number, it appears it's a mobile number from India! I tried to call back this evening, no answer. I won't bother trying to call again.

Got a call from this number with the same information about winning.  I called the number, woman answered and said she was the verification center.  I had her repeat that.  Then I asked where she was located and she hung up on me.  Tried calling the 888 number again and it just rang and rang and rang.
