- Me replies to THE REAL TRUTH| 2 repliesBite me!!!! You are obviously one of these SCAMMERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whether a debt is/was owed; if it was written off by the original company that provided the debt - IT IS OVER!!!! Sure, you purchased the debt information from that company and now are trying to scare people into giving you money that they do NOT OWE YOU - AND NEVER WILL. If a debt has been written off by a company, NO ONE can go back and collect that debt, much less, file suit against you for that debt. If your credit report shows any bad debt and that it is written off by the company, that is all there is to the situation. I dare you to come and try to serve a summons to my 70 year old Mother!!!! I dare you!!!!
- THE REAL TRUTH replies to Me| 1 replyObviously you have no idea what you are talking about. I guess you have never heard of something called the "statute of limitations". Years of time after a debt has been written off in which the owner of the debt has every right to file suit. Amazing the ignorance of deadbeats!!!
- LyndaRecv'd a call from this foolish agency. Call actually for a relative of mine. They gave case # and phone # for my relative to call back "immediately". Said it was for a court summons. I called the number back and it was answered "Corporate office". I told them that there were probably a million or more companies in America with corporate offices....they laughed and said it was Colonial Asset Management. They have called here a number of times. I have contacted my local police after they threatened to send a sherriff to our home the last time they called. Fortunately, I am now on to them. I welcome them to my home anytime they want to show up. I just wish there was a way to stop the calls. They are idiots!!!! Scam, scam, scam!

- teed off replies to Timothy DunnFunny. My husband received a phone call yesterday on his cell phone while at work from these same people looking for me at 508pm. When he informed them that I was a day sleeper and that he was at work, the work guy insisted he had to reach me within two hours. I have never known of any company delivering anything outside of business hours. As far as I know, most places can also obtain any known email addresses as well, but interestingly enough, I have never received an email from them either. I am grateful for everyone's posts. I was wondering if this was legit or not.

- jenni| 1 replyThe man named NEIL CAVUTO has called my inlaws house looking for my father and giving out his so called case number, and let them know the sheriff will be by to deliver my fathers summons for court. When i called the number back, the man told me i was rude and ignorant after i let him know it was illegal practice to disclose that info to my inlaws and that they will remove their number from their file and not harass them anymore. Then he hung up on me. When i called it back 3 times to speak to a supervisor they hung up on me. The number is 1-888-960-6292

- Mary MangiaracinaI just got the same call at 12:30pm while I was in work, first from a woman who said I was being served papers as we spoke. I explained I was at work and what is this in reference to. she wouldn't tell me but told me to call 888-959-1534 with a claim number and the person there would direct me as to what the matter was. I called and he asked me to verify my name and last 4 of my social, which I did to further see what this was in regard to. he proceeds to tell me for credit card dept and named credit cards I haven't had in over 10 years. Which are all paid and closed. Such as Sears, He said JC Penny's, which I never had..... I explained no I don't have those credit cards, he then badgered me accusing me that this was my dept.... I demanded to know what was charged and where were these cards opened because this would be identity theft.... he was buligerant and still accusing me.. I asked for a supervisor, he said he was the supervisor. Hung up on me because I was getting loud on the phone demanding answers. I then called back and stated my attorney will be reaching them and asked his name and Company one more time. He wouldn't provide any other information and hung up once again..... Something has got to be done about this. This is harrasment and now has the last 4 for my social. Not sure what they can further do. I am reporting it to the police department so they have a record of it on file as well.

following is copied from a website.
"Debt collectors do not want you to know this, but sometimes a debt is just too old to collect. All states have “Statutes of Limitation” that prevent a creditor from enforcing a debt, if the creditor does not file suit within a certain period of time. In other words, if a creditor waits too long to sue you, it is simply out of luck.
Quick Point: The Statute of Limitations is an “affirmative defense”, meaning that if the creditor sues you, you must raise this defense in your answer to the lawsuit. If you do not respond to the lawsuit and raise your Statute of Limitations defense in your answer, you could end up with a judgment against you, even though the debt is beyond the Statute.
Using the Statute to stop vulture debt collectors
What should you do if a debt collector tries to collect on a debt after the Statute of Limitations has run out? Simply, tell the debt collector in writing that the Statute of Limitations has run out on the debt and instruct the collector not to contact you again. Because they count on debtors not knowing their rights, it is usually enough to let collection agencies know that you are aware that the Statute of Limitations has run out. They will generally move on to another victim. However, do not admit to owing the debt, make a payment, or agree to make a payment. If you do, you may compromise your Statute of Limitations defense."- Caller: COLONIAL ASSET MANAGEMENT
