at the end of the day this is a scam,and shame on them.i am a collection agent and i am going to gibe you a few tips to tell the difference from a real call and fake.....
  first:when a real ciollection agency calls the first thing they need to is confirm your name,address and phone number.once you give them that confirming info they should start to tell you the name,phone number and there id number,then the most important thing is that they give you the mini miranda with is a legal diclosure that ALL collection agents should give",this is an attempt to collect a debt anything we talk about will be used for that purpose",if that is not givin them anything they talk to you about is not legally binding.second:always ask for the name of the company,the name of your account(who sent it),the name fo the agent,when your account was bought buy the company,account number how much and why. never send any money with out getting sumthing mailed to you with all the above info.always try to do a BIF(balance in full)it looks better,however a SIF(settlement in full)is good to its paid.Collection agencies are NOT ALLOWED to contact or tell your account info(debt)to anyone but you ,if they do its caled 3rd party diclosure,and once they tell you they are going forth with legl action they are no longer allowed to contavnt you.once you tell them you have a bankrupcty lawyer they should not contact you.lastly they are only allowed to call between 8am-8pm,if any of these rules are broken ot is considered HARASSMENT.i hope this will help you ...

Received a call from "Melody Michaels" of some law office UPC? stating they have several complaints due to be filed out my local county clerk's office and per my state law had to give me 72 hours notice to contact them to resolve this voluntarily, or they would send me a certified notice to appear in court and referenced a docket number. Left phone number 888-959-2873 ext. 321. People who file lawsuits do not call, they just file and send a notice delivered by the sheriff's office to last known address.

It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

Thanks for the info. Received another message at work. Now the scammer calls herself "Melanie," not "Melody," can't even get her fake name straight. Demanded I call her back or she would forward paperwork on to my local court. Bogus, bogus, bogus. I am certain the supposed law firm "UPC & Associates" is fake too. I sure would like to find out exactly who these kooks are so I can sue them in my local district court for violating the FCDA. I have saved their messages, so their goose is cooked.

So I did a typo !! The Federal Debt Collections Protection Act. They are still in violation of it. Do you work for these clowns????  If so, please forward their actual company name and address so I can get a lawsuit started against them.

Received call today at work from a man named "Rick" who posed as some type of process server.  Posting this transcript for the benefit of others who need to see this is a scam: "I was calling regards an affidavit, court order from UPC. They’ve asked that we give you the call prior to scheduling you for summons. We get your residence and your place of employment. The first place we will go will be your employment now that we got the number. In order to stop the service date you need to get in contact with them. They’ll be in contact with me if you do or don’t. Uhm, I need a cease and desist order. I hope we get this matter resolved, that way it doesn’t forward out. The contact number to return the call to their office is 888-959-2873. When calling them back refer to your case # XXXXXX-XX, XX is for [state]. This is your notification.  You have been notified.”  

This is what I call utter b--s, a stupid scare tactic. Sue me for real and serve me with a copy of your lawsuit delivered by a sheriff's deputy at my residence (that is the state law where I live) or shut up. How about a real lawsuit in District Court for violation of FDCPA and a restraining order served at your place of employment, so this harrassment at my office will end?????

Received this message today at work: "Hi this message is for xxxx. This is Jennifer Coleman calling back with the office of UPC and Associates. This is now my final attempt to serve you notice on court document xxxxxx. At this point in time you have failed to rectify this matter voluntarily. We are forwarding out a notice of intent to xxxxxxxxx County for you to be pursued on an involuntary level. My number here is 888-959-2873 ext. 321."  Hooray-- a final notice !!  Now these creeps will stop harrassing me at work !!   There is no lawsuit against me, I checked the court filings online. There either is or is not a lawsuit, none of this document or "docket number" crap they kept referring in the numerous threatening messages left on my work voicmail. All of these voice messages are evidence I can use in a lawsuit against them.

this info is very helpful. our family is getting these calls too. unfortunately we all jump to conclusions without the facts. it all sounded very suspicious when one guy said to my husband he was an old man and it didn't matter what he said. he actually was cursing and using fowl language about the family member who supposedly used us as a reference. the whole thing stunk to high heaven. i have the call on my voice mail and will be reporting this to the authorities.

Report this company to the FTC and attorney general immediately. They are thiefs. They are scammers posing as attorneys. I googled this UPC and associates and found nothing.

What can be done to stop these calls.  I called and got there mailing address for anyone else receiving calls:
