Funny this guy called me and asked me all the wrong questions, guess he didn't konw that he is calling a WU store. Recorded the conversation and sent a copy to the police today. Hopefully they will be able to do something to stop this.

And no WU will never asked for your personal info (duh? why do we have to confirm anything when we have all your info right on our screen)

If you don't have caller ID, get one.
If you see unknown number or out of area number you do not know, don't answer.
Common sense is your best friend, think before you answer.

    simple as that.

this number called me claim they were western union, and asked for receiver's address. i didn't know anything and believed and gave the receiver's address. last time i send money by western union, i didn't get any phone calls. after i see this site, i got worried and i called the western union 800 number. the first service person transfered me to another department. and the lady told me it was no scam, it was their security department calling in order to complete the transfer..... i checked with her the address i gave on the first call, and she had it correct..... is there any possibility the forwarded call was intersected by someone?

don't know what will happen and whom to believe.....

    Frustrated
I got one call from this number (which is why I looked it up and found this site)... the guy who called was speaking so fast I could barely understand what he was saying, except something about an electronic signature for a payment of $2000.  I told him he had a wrong number, twice, and then hung up.

I got a call a little while later from another 888 number (but it was marked as "unavailable" so I don't have the exact number saved, except in the voicemail they left).  That was the thing that surprised me about the second call - they left a message, it was a different person/different phone number, but it was from a credit union (if I recall correctly), and they were looking for someone other than me.  They were also looking for money.

Agree with all the above posts. this is a scam. i sent money to someone today and they called me within an hour of doing this... i ignored the first call and looked up this number and found out what it really is. then when the guy called back who barely spoke english and claimed to have an operator number of his own i told him i knew he was a scam and hung the phone up. have never got a call back since! DO NOT answer this call!

Just so happened a relative of mine got a text message right after dealing with moneymart which goes through to western union within about an hour. I couldn't figure out how or why they got that number unless some scumbag on the inside is giving the info or hacking in.

So I went the local western union and they said they never heard anything about it and would never call people at all.

Then I called that number and got an offical sounding greeting that would seem legit to some people I guess. Then some indian guy picks up the phone and  goes baggagee boo baggagee boo baba or something tank you berry berry much for calling my name is mike. So i go what is your real name it's not mike it's pashtoon or something like that isn't it? He goes noo noooo my ma and dad named me mike so i said prove it, then he asked me for my name and i said no what is your name? Then he goes I already told you my name now what is yours. Then the swearing started and the screaming on the phone from my end going you are like bobby jindal aren't you whose real name is pyush or something but changed his bloody name to bobby so he can get elected in a redneck state full of inbreds. So after much swearing the cornhole hung up on me.

Why is this number still up and is anyone doing anything about this?

i just received a call from this number and thanks to all the posts, i am grateful that it appears i avoided a scam. thanks...but this number should be shut down and the scammers who are working. they seem pretty legit. i did say i don't believe you, the number doesn't bring western union up. she gave me western union's phone number, but that doesn't prove anything to me.

I am 51 yrs old. This was the first time I ever used Western Union. I got a call for this number the person had a accent. They left a message on my cell phone to call 1-800-448-1492. I called it back. They sounded legit. They would not tell me their name Clue #1. I asked them was there a problem with the wire, they did not answer the question, clue#2, I asked them why they needed the MTCN number, they did not answer the question, clue and strike #3!!!  I told them I will contact the other party and call them back if there is a problem (NOT!!!)These funds were wired to take care for a funeral arrangement. Thieves do not care what or why you have what you need, they just want it bad enough to lie, cheat or in some cases kill to get if from you. Always beware, always ask questions, some times ask them different ways of over and over. Either you will get the truth or hung up on, but do not get taken! O Yeah, alway check crazy numbers out on Google to see if they are scammer! Praise God for caller I.D.!

I made a WU transaction in a local Safeway, Kaneohe, Hi, 19 Oct, 2012. Within hours I get this bogus call, something wrong with your transaction, please give me all your information so I can recheck it against our computers. Hello I thought, I already did it at the store, I could see this scam unfolding. I asked if this was truly WU, repeat my transaction number to me. Long pause. Got you I said, Go F _ _ k yourself, hung up on the jerk. I will be reporting this to WU, the local Safeway manager, Island Safeway Manager, Corporate Safeway Manager, telling them they have scammers working for them.

I think they are legit - They said they were from Western Union consumer protection. They knew all the details of the transaction and just wanted to make sure I was not sending money in response to a possible scam.

This is the compliance department of Western Union. Two of my recent transactions did not go through as I sent large sums in quick succession; I went to Kroger to get the issue sorted and I was told to call customer service of Western Union. When I did, the lady said I would receive a call for a compliance interview (look up the numerous details of this online); whoever told you Western Union never calls its customers is obviously moronic, and you are clearly ignorant idiots for calling every damn phone call a scam.
