Carrier flagged number as spam/scam. No message. Identified as Hoffman Cohen & Associates upon callback. Block and report.

Hoffman Cohen and Associates.  Same phone call different "lawyer" name trying to take care of 2 counts against us for a loan we never took out 1. count of defrauding a United States bank system and 2. defrauding on a contractual obligation or it will be sent to &&& County court system.  I always tell them to send it.

This would be a criminal charge.  The evidence would be presented to a Federal Grand Jury by a Federal Prosecutor and an arrest warrant would be issued.  The FBI or US Marshalls would then come pick you up.  You certainly would not be getting a "heads up" call.  I have never heard of "defrauding on a contractional obligation" so I have to assume that you didn't pay a contract which would be civil and not criminal.  If that were the case you would have gotten lots and lots of calls and letters before it got to the suing point.

The fake process server/location finder extortion SCAM usually consists of the following:

They mention that they have received a Fax document or some sort of complaint and that there is a pending legal matter or action about to filed against you to create the sense of urgency. They tell you that they are a “process server” and cannot give you the particulars of the case since the file is sealed. This is simply ruse to get you to call another number (often with a made-up case number) where they will ask for money to “make it go away” (this is actually the same place, they work in teams, one pretending to be the server, and the other usually pretends to be a lawyer). They threaten to serve you at home or at work. They tell you that if they serve you at work then they will need a supervisor, security, or HR person there as a witness, hoping that will cause you to panic over the alleged embarrassment of being served at work. They also tell you that you will need two forms of ID. None of which is true. Process servers do not ever call ahead so that you can dodge them. Process servers get paid to serve papers, nothing else. They certainly are not going to pass up a paycheck by telling you that you can avoid being served, they are not going to give you an extra day or even a few hours to get a “stop order”. Court documents are time sensitive and must be served within a certain amount of time. Remember that you can always call the local courthouse to see if there really is a lawsuit that has been filed against you.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it. You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter, email, or text (postmarked in the case of a letter) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. Unless they have communicated it to you verbally at the beginning of your conversation. It also must contain the “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this communication must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified. If and when you get that communication you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.

You can also file a complaint with the FTC who will then direct you to the CFPB.  Or you can simply go to the the FTC website and file a complaint which will again be redirected to the CFPB.  No matter what you are going to end up reporting the complaint to the CFPB so why not go there first and forget about the FTC?  I mean seriously, you are not actually going to report anything about debt collection directly to the FTC but hey, knock yourself out!  https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/#/assistant

So, I had a voice mail left about a "legal business matter to be resolved before it's processed" And since I did NOT answer the number above was given.
I used a Skype account to call back (toll free numbers are free and I am set up as no caller ID on the line)
The first guy tried to use the phone number Skype uses to identify me, didn't work.  And hung up on me!
I called again and a woman answered and when I wouldn't tell her who I was, she finally said it as some arbitration firm - un, I don't know any reason for them to call me.
How much are these "associates" paid to scam people?

Called me about a credit card in collection from 2012. I know for a fact this is not true. Name of Company, View Point Solutions, Legal Dept, Litigations, Mr. Ray Smith.  Do Not confirm any info with them.

They are now calling themselves VPS Pre Litigation. They called me from the same 888 number as Hoffman & Associates. This time they didn't ask for me directly, no reference number, no indication as to what the "legal" issue was, only that her name was Tonya Ross and to call her back on 470-508-4491. They have stepped things up with their new fancy website too. Unlike all the cookie cutter websites from the other & Associates pages I've found.

Call was coming in on a different number 572-746-5392. They wan t to talk to me (using my full name & middle initial) about a civil claim files in there office. Call us at 1-888-985-4323. I didn't call them back

Got a recorded message call from 626-884-4651 that said they have "legal papers" for (my name) and that I should call them back at 888-985-4323.  I know this is a fake attempt to scam me because the name they addressed me by is a nick name and not my legal name which would be on any loans or credit cards or any other legal debt.  Probably found me on social media and trying to scam me.  Don't fall for it people.  Do not call them back and certainly do not give them any money.

Got the exact same message from Mr. Stevens on Aug 7. 2024.  Sounded bogus to me.

Received this call also and I called back which they said was from a payday loan.  I told them I don’t know anything about it and hung up.  Looked up the company though and number matches the one they wanted me to call back.  Is this a legitimate company?  Does anyone have any experience or information? By

VPS Pre Litigation.  Website went up 6/1/24 and expires next year.  The address is in a shopping center so I would imagine that there is something like a UPS store in there.  Company is not registered in any state under that name.

Received two calls/messages from 571-781-8158 (caller ID actually showed as "SAS"), but they referenced the 888-985-4323 number for call back.

First msg: "This is Jackson with VPS Prelitigation Services.  I need to speak to you or legal counsel concerning a legal complaint I have in my office that is attached to your full name, and social, and case file number. Please return my call to 1-888-985-4323.  Federal law does require that all parties in this case be notified and let the recording reflect that you have been notified."

The second message was from Jasmine and was similar but not exactly the same. She said the same introduction statement and then ... "This is my final attempt at trying to reach out to you or your legal counsel concerning a civil complaint I have in my office that is attached to your full name, your social, and your complaint file number. I need your statement of intent on this account to avoid a default judgement, and if I don't hear from you by the end of business today you will be forfeiting your right to dispute this claim outside a legal setting. And I will have no other recourse but to forward your file back to the client so that they can seek full restitution."

Strange they never state my name.

The 571 number is a Virginia area code.  The 888 number is on the company website of VPS Prelitigation Services, which is located in Wyoming. As another person mentioned, the vpsprelitigation.com domain/website has only been around since the beginning of June 2024.

I haven't lived in the United States for many years, so it is virtually impossible that I have an unpaid bill.

Caller ID showed: 572-746-5392 Oklahoma City (where I live). Message: after 22 sec of silence, "This message is only intended for (4 sec pause) My Name (they said my full name). Well, we are trying to reach you regarding a civil claim that has been filed in our office. Please return the call as soon as possible to 1-888-985-4323. Thank you."  I called the number from a random phone in my office, and told them I was a law office (made up a name) calling for a client who was being harassed by them. She laid it on thick about how they were a legit legal office. But since I refused to give them more than just the name of my "client", they would not tell me what type of law they did.  It was a scam.

tried to collect from parent that has been deceased for 11 years

Received 5 calls so far from a Tina stating she's from "Vital Processing Services"- left a message using my previous married name I haven't used in over 10 years. Stated the same as others here that a complaint was filed and I need to contact them or they will return the case to the client. I know it's a scam. They are stepping up efforts calling 3 times the last week. They left two call back numbers, 804-459-8385 and 888-985-4323. The number on my caller ID shows up as a local number 920-587-4805.
