    I got called today
He said he was Tech Support and my computer is running slow.  I am a computer technician, and I would NEVER allow anything on my computer that would send information to scums like this.   This is a scam - they are trying to gain access to your computer which they do when they tell you they want to add a program to check it out remotely.  They tell you to go to a website and download a program that imbeds a program that does give them remote access - it lets them search your computer for any financial information such as banking numbers, passwords, cookies to get into bank accounts, credit card numbers and so on, then they wipe out your accounts and max out your cards.

This is a scam be careful. They ran a story on my fox 10 Phoenix about this company. How they claim they will help make your computer faster. Then when you turn it on they take control of your computer and tell you if you want to gain entrance back to your computer it will cost you $400.

Yup, "Arlington, TN" - heavily accented (Indian) caller said, "We have received an on-line report that your computer is running slow." Hung up on him and used my iPhone's lovely "Block" feature on his number.
That's the SECOND computer-related scam of the day I've had to deal with.

Just received a call from this number on my mother in law's land line. Answered and he said he was "calling about our issue with our computer running slow". I said "Do you think I'm idiot? I work with computers all day, no one told you there is an issue with our computer running slow, stupid!" He got an attitude with me and said "Oh really?" I said, "Yes, really, now take my number off your list because we are on the do not call list and I'll go report you now on the internet because I'm not some older person you can scam." So yeah, definitely as scam and rude as all hell.

This number will come up as a semi-local number to you. Nevada, Texas, where ever you may be. They will say to you that, there is a problem with your computer, and that your computer is sending reports to them of Errors occurring. (I have my degree in software engineering.) First you should know this number is a spoof. When and if you try to call it back, you won't be able to. They're calling from over seas. Second, they do NOT tell you the company name (Though they'll give you Abbreviations but not tell you what they stand for) and almost immediately tell you to start pressing buttons, and setting a remote connections up. (This is so they can gain access to your computer and access ALL of your personal information including, Credit/Debit Card Numbers, address info, SSN, any information thats on your computer that may be of use to them. Computer laws vary from state to state, but there is one law that is standard for ALL companies in order to set up a remote connection and to do any work from a different location. FIRST they MUST identify FULLY the name of the company, and what they intend to access and do while the remote connection is established. They MUST tell you when the connection is established and stay on the line with you, and confirm when the line has been terminated. If your disconnected during the call, they MUST disconnect the remote connection as well. They MUST (BY LAW IN ANY STATE) have a voice recorded verification of permission to access and set up a remote connection. Everything must be disclosed during this time. (i.e. Who,what, when, where, how, why.) This "Company" does NONE of the above. They immediately start telling you to set up the connection, do not say if or when it will be disconnected, and are EXTREMELY subtle on any information they give to you about themselves. They tell you that you signed up or clicked on something during a time you were online, and it scanned your computer and your computer is sending error messages to them, and they need to fix it. DO NOT ALLOW THEM TO DO SO! Ask ALL questions you can, Where they're calling from, Who you're speaking, and probably most importantly HOW DID YOU GET MY PHONE NUMBER? If your computer was really sending error messages to them, they already have a connection to your computer, which means that they would have information like, your name, IP address, and who your ISP is. I started by saying that I was a software engineer, and that I have 2 masters in several programming languages, and that if they really were receiving info from my computer that they would know personal info like that I just mentioned. They hung up on me mid-sentence. Don't fall for this! Its a lie, and though you'll 'hear' other operators in the background, they're actually just playing a sound file to make them seem real, and to fool you. Do not fall for it. Either hang up, or start putting out technical speak, or just play as dumb as possible, say you don't have a computer. ANYTHING other than giving them information that they should already have, but don't and are trying to get from you. Put it this way, the longer your on the phone with them, the more likely it is that you'll slip and give them info that you don't want to give to them. Good luck, and stay safe.
