I don't pick up calls when I don't recognise the caller ID. If it's a real person, they'll leave a message. I don't get more than a couple of calls from any given number. I Google every strange number I get and almost always find a long list of complaints, often telling about the call recipients's attempts to establish contact with the caller.

My theory is that if you keep answering, they will keep calling.

    Some Help
Esp. to "BJones" & "This #", here's what some of the more creative living in large East Coast urban area have come up with. #1, don't answer. #2, contract w/ your phone provider to activate "select forward" which is like call forwarding but let's you select the #'s, generally up to 8, that will forward to a # of your choice. The more delicious revenge is to select forward these geniuses back their own #. A more effective strategy would be to select forward them to your local FBI office. Why? The recipient's caller ID displays the originating #, not yours. Be sure that select forwarding them to a fed gov't agency will soon stop call to you & will elicit an investigation.
More? Well, it gets a little deeper if you care to engage them. Since virtually every American has some sort of race hang-up respond to the caller's insults by calling him/her the worst  racial insult opposite to the race you perceive him/her. White? Just call him the "N" word. Black? Respond w/"cracker". Latin? Arab or the "N" word. S. Asian? Cracker. I don't particularly recommend this tactic b/c you'll invest emotional energy in the sad sacks and you'll have to be consistent & persistent till they give up. Nonetheless, to take them off-balance can feel pretty damn good and it works.

If their calls' frequency increases, use the select forward option. Remember your goal's to get them shut down to no longer bother you or any of the rest of us who care none for the distraction.

I have received this call for several days and finally decided to answer it. I was told that they sent me a letter to lower my interest rate on my credit card. She said that she just had a few questions to verify if I was still eligible. When I asked her which card it was she hung up on me!!

I get the calls also. Same crap from these people. What we all need to do is find exactly who these people are and pay them a personal visit. We'll leave the wives and kids out of it if there are any.

These people have called and hung up repeatedly when I ask to be removed from they're calling list and wasted my time soooo.  They called one day and I had nothing better to do so I let them talk for a while led them on saying sure sounds good asking questions. after about 30min told them that I just thought I would waste they're time like they do mine and hung up laughing. It sure feels good and I haven't herd from them for about a week.

I had a Chase credit card.  I closed the account because it's in consolidation with other cards of mine right now.  Funny thing is they called my home phone when I never gave them my new phone number.  Not sure these people are just calling existing customers...they could just be calling whatever numbers they have bought.  I happen to think the cable company, who my phone number is through, sold my number because I've been getting slammed with this crap since I switched providers!

this number keeps calling my work cell phone which my company pays for. I do not give that number out and i have no idea why they keep calling. because it is long distance, i cannot answer the phone or I will most likely be questioned by my supervisor.

Asked if I wanted to lower my credit card rates, push 1. Lady came on line and asked my name, then she asked how much I owe in credit card debit, then asked if any were over 18% interest. I told her I would check but then I asked her which credit card agency she worked with and she hung up on me. I checked to see where the call came from and it gave me this number and I can't seem to get a call through to them.
