- willow89Got a call from "Michael" this morning telling me my computer had downloaded infected files and he would help me fix things. I asked for info as to how they had determined this and he just started through his script again. I told him I had Vipre antivirus protection and they had not reported any problems and when he still could not tell me how they had determined that my computer was having problems. It just sounded phishy to me and I told them I was hanging up and that they shouldn't call again.

- naenae replies to Trizthey just called me as well claiming that my computer was filled with junk woman could barely speak english.
- Another Land-Liner in the USAA female with an unintelligible-sounding non-European accent called as said our computer was "corrupted;" and, she made it sound like she was trying to do us a "favor" by calling. However, household member who answered t/c told her we didn't care if it was corrupted/that it didn't bother us (since it was a scam). Then, we told her "Goodbye" before she could try to sell us something(?), or--most likely--try to "fix it by taking control of our computer!" It appeared she tried to call back about 2-hours later: We didn't pick up the phone: and, no message left on a/m. ...We are on the DNC list and have Call Blocker; however, "nothing" seems to stop this type of call, which comes in only as "Unknown Caller" with no phone #. Did call our State's Consumer Protection Unit of the Attorney General's Office. Receptionist said this type of caller ("Unknown Caller" with no phone #) is the most common type call they receive and that the calls are probably computer-generated, and probably aren't "real" phone #s anyway. Said calls very easily could be from overseas. Their only "suggestion" was just not pick up the phone--which is what we generally do when we "recognize" this is the type of caller they are!
- Caller: "Unknown Caller" -- Alleged Computer Scam/Fraud?
- UnhappyCalled, picked up phone, no answer just a very loud click.

- Lee SuttonThe male person keeps calling wanting me to get in front of my computer and he will clear up some files being downloaded that should not be downloaded.
Disregards questions as to how he knows and insist I get on my computer. I hang up. Next time he calls I am going to tell him about all the complaints listed on this web site.- Caller: None identified
- AnnoyedThey called again. This time there was one beep, a long pause, then a very polite female recorded voice that said Good Bye.

- Kathryn C replies to elaine| 1 replyI got the same fellow today......................The numbers on my phone read 914 819 0445 but the first numbers that show up in the display are V10192245380037. So if you get this call, the first number shows the V number, then it goes away to display the 914 number....and it repeats this motion from one number to the next....on my display.
It did appear to be a man with an Indian accent....and he was referring to my computer and computer maintenance.
HELP..... this situation is frightening.............it is like a thief that is crawling through the window ... a real window. - Tamianth replies to Kathryn CIts a scam and all they want is your money! They have no way of knowing whats going on with your computer and No legitimate company cold calls like this. The scam usually entails them taking you to your event viewer which is a internal monitor that logs events on your computer.. Oh sure, you will see the error's logged, but its all a scam to get you to allow them access to your computer. The event viewer is only doing its job and its there for a real tech to look through should you actually have a problem. Then they want remote access! They usually turn your anti virus program off and give you a big spiel, then inform you they want a small fee to fix it.. several hundred dollars of course! Meanwhile, they have access to all your computer and could be gleaning personal info, downloading stuff to your computer to turn it into a zombie computer to spam folks..
The only persons who should be touching your computer is you, your manufacturer, Real Windows support that you have called and/or maybe a real live tech you see face to face!

http://www.katu.com/news/local/Callers-say-th ... -224349791.html - Janie| 2 repliesReceived a call from this number 914-819-0445. She had foreign accent. Insisted my computer was corrupted and infected and wanted to walk me through fixing it. I hung up. She called back. This time unknown number that said 000-000-0000. She almost had me convinced I had serious corruption issues that need urgent addressing. Then she discovered I had a Mac - it was like "never mind." I hung up and she called again to reiterate that it was a legit call and that they are calling everyone with Windows. Apologized for taking my time. Totally unnerving call!

- The-Truth replies to Janie| 1 replyThe only corruption issues are the moral corruption that allows these scammers to sleep at night, knowing their entire business is centered around scamming and theft.
- disgusted with telemarketerssI received a call from this number telling me they are a "Windows Support" company and I had viruses on my computer that if not fixed my computer was about to crash. I had just bought a computer with Windows 8 about a week ago and also the extended warranty so I thought it was a call just to f/u on my purchase. I realized it was a scam based on things this person said and no offense to anyone with a foreign accent but I am always suspicious when I get a telemarketer call from a person who has such a heavy accent I can't understand their English and they don't even know my name. To those who are making these scam calls on purpose please quit scamming the population that are either uninformed or uneducated; you are taking advantage of helpless people and that's one of the worst things people can do in life.

- Annoyed914-819-0445, "Michael" called today (11/14/13). Heavily accented voice. Said I had computer problems.
couldn't answer exactly how he knew MY computer had problems. Since I was annoyed at his call, I kept him on the phone for 5 minutes or so, annoying him as best I could.
He finally hung up, then called back about 2 minutes later.
I did not answer the second call.
I am seriously considering disconnecting my land line due to these types of calls. It seems that is all we get on the land line, so what good is it anyway!- Caller: 914-819-0445
- Elizabeth Allen replies to elaine| 1 replyThe same guy from Windows maintenance called me and said that every time I download something or go onto a website, someone else can see it. Bull pucky! This computer isn't even mine, so it isn't attached to my home number. So, how would they know what phone number to call? It's bogus. Hang up on 'em. Trust your gut!
- Elizabeth Allen replies to JessicaYou could report them to the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General. That'll stop 'em.
- WillDav713 replies to WillowIt is good advice, IT IS NOT AGAINST THE LAW TO MAKE DEATH THREATS TO THE PERSON WHO CALLED YOU.
No such thing as a reverse call trace.
If what you said was true, I would already be in the slammer. - retta replies to Elizabeth AllenJust got a call from this unidentified male with very broken English. The reverse lookup on the 914-819-0495 places it in NY. This same individual scammed my elderly neighbor by holding her PC hostage until she paid $70 after password protecting it and not letting her know the password. She didn't pay the $70 and thus called me instead. I keep telling her to never allow anyone onto her computer. A couple of years ago they got her for $240. I played along with him since my background is computer security. I told him that I do not have a Windows Operating system just to see his reaction and he tried to argue with me about it. I asked him why he thinks I have a Windows Operating system and he told me that he got the information from a survey. I questioned the survey and he didn't know but was determined that I had Windows. I turned that number in to our State Attorney General's office after they tried to scam our neighbor again but doubt they can do anything. We need to somehow spread the word about these scam artists. They're getting more common and calls are coming in all the time.
