I got the same call.  It is a scam.  I received a call from someone about a month ago for the same reason and he was so rude and crude I could not believe that he would talk to another human being like that.  But he was middle eastern and they have no regard for women so I guess he felt justified.  Block this number and tell all your friends not to answer this call and to hang up on anyone calling for this reason.

They said Microsoft had asked them to call people who were sending out numerous error messages because they were causing problems for the "Microsoft server."  I kept them on the phone for quite a while...but never went to access my computer as they requested.  Asked for the manager...he gave me the same spiel.  "Don't you care about your computer?"  "You can look at the computer for yourself, give us the error number and we will tell you what is wrong."  If they have record that my computer was sending error messages, they would have the error numbers too, right?  SCAMMERS!!!

I just got a call from this number on my cell phone. I DO have DO NOT CALL on my cell and my landline -- doesn't do much good. But, a few years ago I got a call from these people and they scared me and I listed to them -- except they were going to fix it. After I got off the phone I called a friend who works for Microsoft and he said their tech people would NEVER call a person. My caller said that they got a message indicating that there was a problem with my computer. Said the same thing today ... this time I told him I would find a way to report him to the police, the FBI, CIA, you name it. And then I blocked his number.  But I have to say, after I hung up I felt anxious. I am going to report them. But I'm glad to hear that I am not alone.

You would be correct if the callers were in the USA.   However,   they are scammers calling from South Asia,  usually from India or Pakistan,  and a Do Not Call list does not exist in their world,  nor would they observe it if it did exist.   They are thieves operating from  the other side of the world and our laws do not apply to them and seeking assistance from their uncooperative governments is useless.

I think "caller" was just being a little flippant, that's all.

I've been tempted to say the same thing to people with very common-sounding or incomplete names or pseudonyms who post the same type of request, myself.  Most often, I let someone else do it, instead.

But when I feel frustrated or in a bad mood, I try to make my remark so over-the-top that it's not only obvious that I'm not serious but also that the poster is making a silly request that can't be fulfilled anyway.  My guess is that "caller" either forgot or didn't know to use over-the-top language to avoid making himself appear to be serious.

I received a call from them, saying they were from Windows Support and someone was trying to hack into my computer. I then proceeded to ask questions such as which one of my computers (I only have one), and what was the Service Tag (S/N) for the computer they were looking for. When I told them the number they gave me was not to my computer I was promptly told to, "F**k off, you're wasting my time."

Always an individual of  Indian decent telling me he is from Micro soft and that my PC is sending out error messages and I must let him help me fix it. I told him he was scamming and to take me off his call list and he insisted it was not that he was calling from CA (number was from NY). Told him he was full of it and to take me off his call list then he told me I was full of S##t, then hung up. He then called me again a week later!
