This is a scam and these people are trying to get in touch with my mother. They have called my grandma and me repeatedly looking for my mom. I have done my research on all the different numbers they call from they are all different. They threatened to  bring cops to my mother's house and all this legal stuff. Then they called as a "sheriff" and said he was coming to my mom's house to arrest her if she didn't call some lawyer to pay money to. We called local law offices and they said there was no case with my mom's name on it and they don't arrest people for owing money and they don't call people before sending summons to make payments.

Got this call this morning. Joyce Taylor calling from the County Dept of Legal Service used my whole name, calling about someone with the same last name as me (that I obviously don't know) pertaining to their upcoming court date.

One, that would be my supposed family member's issue, not mine, so I'm not liable for anything.

Same situation for me - call, no answer by me - no message left.

I had read about the 'hang up and you call back' scam - I was fearful that I would be charged high rate ( like calling internationally) if returned call.

Hasn't tried calling since first call.

Received robo-call from this number on my cell, which is a pre-pay and not in general circulation.  Automated voice immediately warned "Your bank account and debit card are frozen until we hear from you.  Press 1 now to connect to a customer service rep".  What bank account? What frozen?  This was easy -- I pressed OFF.  Classic phishing call to obtain account information.  If the caller can't provide you the details, then feel free to hang up.

I'm a paralegal and I've never heard of any thing called a "County Department of Legal Service" before. Even process servers must explain who they are and what court they are serving (or it's on the process court documents). Most assuredly a scam to extort money from you.  REAL binding legal communications are never conducted by telephone (or email for that matter).

Received a call from this number this morning at 4:30am - by the time I woke up enough to go to the phone (cell phone). Call had gone to voice mail, no message was left. Future calls, if any, will be reported first to my phone carrier, maybe they can block the number, then to the police (Tacoma & NYC), then to the FCC. Using this blog to establish that a problem exists.

Descriptions in this thread are of extortion dressed as debt collection. Consumer debts in America, including payday loans, are a *CIVIL* matter, not criminal! Honest debt collectors do not typically send their claims straight to a judge, and they don't take your ransom money to broker quick deals with so-called "process servers". There are no secretive "arbitrators", "mediators", or "prelitigation specialists", only sweaty criminals with a script full of bullying remarks. Lawful debt collection is a process, not an ambush, and you are due a chance at each stage to raise a dispute. The agents' horrid threats are empty and their conduct is illegal. Do not reward lawbreakers with your money. Challenge them always, sue them if you can.

I just received a call from 917-268-9953. Stated that I will be served at work and home. I asked if I should call in the morning and was told calling back immediately was in my best interest. I knew I don't have any issues that could result in this action so I began researching..... needless to say I won't be calling

    Don't know number-Don't answer
We haven't had calls in quite a few months.  In the last two weeks these pains in the %$$#$ have more than made their quota of calls: "800 Svc 888-726-2875"; "Avondale 610-910-8037"; "Portfolio Svc: 817-500-9094"; and just now received this new one "NY 917-268-9953".  First these creeps used to call for a person we've never heard of.  I did find a person in the local phone directory with the same name, maybe she changed her number & our cable company gave to us --- we pay for an unlisted number, obviously a waste of money.  Second: this new set of callers don't even bother to leave a message.  Fine with us....call all you want --- if you aren't in our address book we don't pick up!!  And if you think we owe you money --- send us a letter and our lawyer will be glad to respond!

    Really?
This number called me 4 times at work. Now I work at a hospital so there are a lot numbers here but the call directly to my unit. They were saying they are calling cause they detected something on my compute from going on the internet it download something. The company has certain sites blocked which means we can't download anything unless it was sent through an email. Our email is scanned to make sure it's within guidelines. As soon as I tell them they called a hospital (cause they don't hear me say Intensive Care Unit when I answer) they immediately say sorry wrong information and hang up. I've gotten this from 917-268-9953 and 214-838-9953.

Just received a call for a former resident from Alxis Smith/Process Server.  The former resident was going to be served relative to a legal matter.  The resident was to call 1-855-789-4845.   Scam alert.

I have a message left on my cellphone from them pretending they are a buyer for my products I sell. Can they get in trouble pretending they are someone else to get me to call them? I would love to take them to the ringer on lying to me.

This is a Google Voice outbound trunking number. Friends have been seeing it as MY NUMBER when I call from my cell phone. I use the old Google Voice App on Android that relays my outbound calls through GV, which is supposed to present my main CID instead of the cell number. Whoops! This "glitch" is apparently exploited by many scammers and collection agencies to spoof their real number. Like Skype, it's a legitimate service that's being abused by fraudsters.

Guess they are changing tactics...I received a call from a lady with a foreign accent stating that my name and number had been selected to receive a $9000 government grant. Yeah right. I hung up on her.

I received a call on a Monday stating I needed to call an 888-308-6865 as their was legal matter in the process that I could not stop but, I must call this number right away and give them the claim# too. They called my daughter first in another state leaving a message. So I call the 888# right away on Monday, had to leave voice msg. No response from them and come Thursday they leave another message stating that since I didn't respond to the first call on Monday (which I did) now I will be served with threats at my house or employer. This is a HUGE SCAM! I told them in the message on Monday I thought it was a scam and was hesitant to even call them back and yet after a message like that they still don't call me with any concern. The next call I got was from the same lady calling herself Rachel Martinez. I am reporting this to my State Attorney General's Office.

I got a call from this number, as many other scam numbers.    I didn't even answer, but went straight to 800 notes to verify it was a scam and ensure it wasn't a real call.  Anyways, I looked this up on phone validator and it is a LanLine coming from New York.  The carrier is "HYPERCUBE".  I called Hypercube and asked if they could shut them down and they told me to talk to my phone provider;  in other words, they blew me off.   It really frustrates me that these calls are clearly illegal scams.   They don't fool me, but they irritate me and waste my time.  But more than that, I worry about them contacting someone else and taking their money.
Anyways, the only things I know to do about these calls are:
    1.   Enable Anonymous call rejection
    2.   If you can block a number, do that  (it's *60 on comcast digital voice)
    3.   Now that you filtered out a lot of untracable calls with (2), you can use *57 to trace a call
    4.   Problem is that nobody will do anything about it.

Just got a call from Jack at "Microsoft" letting me know that my computer had malware that was creating problems for their server.  Had these calls before, they want to hijack your computer.  I never let them get that far.  This time, when I asked for his direct number he hung up on me.  Total scam.
