Do not have any conversations with this business. Contact the Attorney General's office in Tallahassee Florida immediately. This is a scam. No bill collector can suspend your license for a debt. It takes a judge ruling that you are indeed liable for damages. If you have given any money to this company file a police report with the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office so that this company can be persued. The CEO has a criminal record which is easily found by simply googling the company name. DO NOT GIVE ANY MONEY TO THIS COMPANY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

    Mam,
I urge you to contact the Attorney General's Office in Tallahassee Florida concerning this company. I also urge you to contact the BBB of West Florida as well. This is a company claiming to be debt collectors. The CEO has been arrested on mulitple counts of Larceny of $300 but no more than $500 in Sarasota County Florida. Under no circumstances should this company be able to acess your credit record. I would also contact the Sarasota County Sheriff's office immediately simply due to the fact they obviously have access to your social security number. I would also remind everyone to look at the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act which can be located on the FTC web site. Also everyone needs to take a look at Nexis Lexis for an article named " Making the Bill Collector's Pay". It is very interesting and informative.

    Hey MAD,
Why don't you look at the BBB website again-no company HAS TO be a part of the BBB. I checked into HK Craig and they are a legitimate company as a subrogation company. What did you do to get them to check your credit? Do I work for them? Nope-my neighbor got a call from them so I checked into it. And for everyone else complaining about them-you must have done something wrong to get them to call you!!! THINK ABOUT IT!!!! Don't be stupid-ask questions.

    Mam,
I would suggest you "ask some questions" yourself such as: "Why does the BBB exsist? What does the Fair Debt Collections Act Say? What does the FTC say about this company? What does the FBI say about this company? Why has the owner been arrested multiple times for Larconey? Why does Nexis Lexis have an article about the owner of the company? Why did the Sarasota Herald Tribune publish an article about this company and the owners? Why were the owners of this company sued by multiple people?"
As far as your comment that "No company has to be registered with the BBB" you are correct. However, it is usually a good indication of the company/corporation's reputation within the operating community, the decision making capabilities of the officers of the corporation, and the overall business practices. It also looks very bad on a company when they try to defend NOT being part of the BBB in their area. It looks even worse when the company is so desperite to "run damage control" on their reputation that they will send the employees (associates) onto sites, such as this one, to defend the company and it's practices.
I would be very careful to tell people "Don't be stupid-ask questions" when you clearly have not asked the proper questions, or performed the due dilligence research, yourself.

No one objects to legit debt collection but threatening the loss of their driver's license as reported by other posters is considered illegal by the FDCPA which then gives alleged debtors a plausible reason to treat the collector as a scammer. Collect per the FDCPA and all will be well.

Folks, this is how you can tell a real collection call from a scam call. The first thing that should happen is a legit collector/lawyer contacts you by phone or mail and this *INITIAL CONTACT* is considered a special event by the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf . Section 809 of the FDCPA *REQUIRES* the collector to tell you at initial contact (first phone call, first letter, etc.), or send you paperwork within 5 days of initial contact, 5 items. If you don't get them orally or in writing at initial contact (you do not have to ask for them, collectors are legally obligated to provide them), treat the collector like you would a SCAMMER. The 5 items are:
    1. $amount of debt,
    2. name of the current creditor (which may differ from the original creditor who might have sold your debt),
    3. a statement that that debt will be assumed to be valid unless you dispute in writing within 30 days, (get a mailing address from your collector)
    4. a statement that that if you do dispute in writing within 30 days, the collector must mail you written verification of the debt,
    5. a statement that if you ask the collector in writing within 30 days, the collector must send you the name and address of the original creditor if it's different from the current creditor.

If they simply call you up and demand a card payment over the phone without paperwork and without giving you the 30-day dispute window and an address, it's very likely a scammer.

"no company HAS TO be a part of the BBB" is irrelevant. The BBB rates companies regardless of whether they are accredited with the BBB or not. It's also been alleged that the BBB is slow to downgrade accredited companies because they're paying the BBB for accreditation.
HK Craig currently has a C rating with the BBB http://www.bbb.org/west-florida/business-revi ... ota-fl-90078216 and per your logic, HK Craig "must have done something wrong" to lose their A rating with the BBB.

Do unto others as you would have done unto you.  We all know BBB is a very important entity to partner within your community. A 'C' rating is not so bad, wonder if it could be better? Wonder if HK Craig is paying all clients accordingly, only HK knows.  Best thing to do is report your payment to your creditor and be willing to provide proof of payment.  Let the payment stick, creditors will honor it.  But let them do the work.

It is not illegal to report that the drivers license may be revoked. If the person was driving a vehicle with no insurance and had an accident, then yes that is illegal and grounds to have the drivers license suspended. If there were damages and/or injuries due to an accident because of that persons negligence and now must pay restitution, then yes the drivers license can be suspended. Look it up-

    Mam,
It is illegal for any bill collector to threaten any legal action that they are not capable of bringing and in the case of these fraudulant calls, it is illegal. Your company is not authorized, nor has the jurisdiction to suspend, threaten, or make any such claims of legal action because you are not attorney's nor presiding judges seated by vote. IT IS HIGHLY ILLEGAL.
I would strongly suggest you read the FDCPA .

If you did something illegal-LIKE DRIVING WITH NO INSURANCE OR CAUSED AN ACCIDENT AND REFUSED TO PAY FOR THE DAMAGES-then yes they do have the legal right to file with their attorney charges against you. I have worked in insurance for a very long time and know the legal ramifications for illegal practices while driving. Have you read the FDCPA? They can contact the DMV and report the illegal activity where the DMV may revoke your driving privileges. Look it up driving is a privilege not a right.

I was called by this comany and ignored them like everyone else said above. Then I got a letter from the DMV telling me my license was suspended because I caused an accident and didnt have insurance. Then it cost me $500 to get my license back after I paid the claim. It is called the financial responsibility law adn the state suspends you when they send in a request. I say ignore at your own risk.

I got a call a year ago from HK Craig. They claimed to be representing a car rental company in Florida who bought another car company that I rented from. The original company tried to get $2k from me for car damages but I pointed out I returned the car and they signed it in. Only after did they notice the "damage". Not my problem I told them! So now HK Craig is claiming I still owe on the debt. Im pretty sure its past statute of limitations besides the fact I dont owe the money!! I told them so and they called again yesterday. Not sure what will persuade them this is a false debt. The bbb has them at D- so I dont think complaints to the bbb wil work anymore

Get a free consultation with a Consumer Rights attorney in your area. They will gladly sue that company if they have violated either the FDCPA, FCRA or any number of other state and federal statutes governing that behavior. Also, a company which purchases old "debt" has their own strict guidelines. If they cant substantiate the demand they made on you, big mistake. Make sure you take any letters you have received from that company. ...and always save the messages if they left any. Good Luck.

I received a call from this firm last week claiming that I owed 931.00 for damage done to a rental car that I rented from EZ Rental back in 2006.  I  informed the guy that I did not damage the car and that did not acknowledge the debt.  I asked for him to send me proof of the debt.  He asked for my email address, but I still haven't seen anything.  I can't wait for him to send me proof, because I actually still have the check out slip (which shows the damage already) and the final invoice from EZ rental.  I travel for business and keep all my receipts.  I have already contacted an attorney and will be suing these clowns ASAP.  This company is nothing more than a bunch of scammers and crooks.  DO NOT PAY THEM.

This number and others - (866) 994-3872; (941) 306-0885; (941) 306-0890; Fax: (941) 952-0629 - belong to HK Craig and Associates, LLC, This company is run by two criminals - Harry K (AKA Keith) Rosenblum, and Michael Craig Driskel AKA Craig M. Driskel, both of Sarasota Florida.  Rosenblum has a record for Larceny, and Driskel has multiple arrest records, including a conviction for Grand Larceny.  These two thieves are scam artists who try to trick or extort money from people.  If you get a call from them, do not speak with them - they will record you and try to trick you into admitting debts you do not owe, then use the taped "confession" to collect money from you.  Report the call to the Sarasota County Sheriff and to the Florida Attorney General.  If they hound you, get a lawyer.  These are dangerous people.  Do not fool around with them.
