Just press # and * repeatedly at work, and if they call you at home or on your cell, the ol' metal coach's whistle should do the trick.  Continue to hang up on them.

Contact your bank and the credit card companies to place fraud alerts on your accounts.  Also, check out http://www.fbi.gov/news/pressrel/press-releases/paydayloanscam_120710, which is directly from the FBI website.

They called me from 951-582-4822. They told me that I had better call back immediately and that they couldnt protect me from what was going to happen. I called and was told it was the dept of legal affairs and investigation. I told them that I googled them and I know it is a scam and they better not ever call my work or home again. He hung up.

I received a call from a 626-384-3265, which after online research i found it was a cell # from Covina, Ca a suburb of LA.  The call was from what sounded like people from middle eastern descent who told me that they were calling from the department of legal affairs and investigation and that I was going to be subpena at my job b/c i had a Cash Advance loan worth 485.00 but after lawyer fees and court cost they said i had to pay a lilttle over 1500.00. I went to my local police and had them to write up a report. After several calls of trying to get through the police officer was able to speak with someone of that middle eastern descent and after he told her who he was he was told never to call the number again. At that moment we knew we had a SCAMMER.

I believe I just spoke to these same people.  They were calling from a different phone number however.  The number they called from was (626)384-3266.  They said they were calling from The Dept of Legal Affairs and Investigations and gave me the same bogus story about owing money on a loan that I never had.  They went so far as to tell me that a deputy sheriff would be at my work at 11am tomorrow with an afidavid and an ARREST WARRENT!!  Much to their surprise, however, I informed them that I am a 911 dispatcher for the Sheriff's Department and they could keep their paperwork because the next call they recieved from me regarding my "loan" would be from one of our county attorneys.  The lady I was speaking to quickly disconnected our call.  My husband, also a police officer, doesn't figure I'll hear from them again.  :-) Thank you all for posting these comments because had I not read up on these people, I might have been one of the poor people suckered into their bull!

Please beware these folks are now using a new number it is 951-489-0238. I received a call tonight from a gentleman saying his name was Mark Williams, strange to have a Arab speaking person with a name like that.  He said if I did not go to western union or Walmart and purchase a Walmart money card for 210.00 within a half hour that I was going to be arrested for a debt owed to a online payday loan company. He said that I would be arrested tommorow at work, and that I would owe for attorney fees and court fees.
When I asked them information and I was speaking to Colorado Police they immideatly hung up the phone, but then they called back 3 times after they hung up. I am calling the FBI and USAttorney Office in the Am to report these scam artist. I am going to put a end to them.

Some Asian lady named Janet Smith called my cell and threatened me with the cops coming to my work tomorrow as well and if they would call my job to Get me fired from my job. I went down to my bank and didn't pay them anything i told them to just send it through court and i guess i will have to fix it then. Then they kept saying well we don't want that so if yu are willing to pay the money now we wont have legal action done. [***]. Be careful everyone.

I have been receiving the calls since Friday from an Indian man David Miller @ 818-337-3042 from the Dept of Legal Affairs and Investigations.  He is calling my work number and hardly gives any information except this call is "time sensitive" and we cannot be responsible for what might happen if I don't call them back.  You call them back and their mailbox is full so you can't talk to anybody anyway.  I googled and this site is what came up.  Now, after reading all these posts there is nothing to be worried about.  I just won't answer their calls.  Thanks posters....

I also have been receiving calls, last week if was from "0000" a man stated he was a police officer and that I was being investigated for a criminal matter. I then received a call from an Indian man David Miller as well from 818-337-3042 from the Dept of Legal Affairs and Investigations. He states that he needs to hear back from me or my Attorney of record, and then goes on to say if he does not hear from me, he wishes me luck as this situation unfold on me.  I then got to work and my boss told me he received a message for me from the same guy. I tried to call back and got a voice mail.  I then called back later today, and spoke with a woman who had my social security # and asked if I worked at.....I stated, I am not going to giv them any information until she tells me what this is all about, she stated it is too late for that and said to expect the police to be at my work tomorrow morning to arrest me. I again tried to get information and she just hung up.

I got a call on my job from this group. When I asked what they were investigating the reply was to call 1-818-337-3042. I called this number and the message states that the mail box is full. I do not owe any creditors money or anything else. I would like to know who this organization represents.

    Sad but True
Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

    Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
    (202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.

Some fraudsters have instructed victims to fax a statement agreeing to pay a certain amount, on a specific date, via a pre-paid Visa card. The statement further declares the victim will never dispute the debt.

If you receive these calls, do not follow the caller’s instructions. Rather, you should:

    ■Notify your banking institutions.
■Contact the three major credit bureaus and request an alert be put on your file.
■Contact your local law enforcement agencies if you feel you are in immediate danger.
    ■File a complaint at www.IC3.gov.
Tips to avoid becoming a victim of this scam:

■Never give your Social Security number—or personal information of any kind—over the telephone or online unless you initiate the contact.
■Be suspicious of any e-mail with urgent requests for personal financial information. The e-mail may include upsetting or exciting but false statements to get you to react immediately.
■Avoid filling out forms in e-mail messages that request personal information.
■Ensure that your browser is up-to-date and security patches have been applied.
■Check your bank, credit, and debit card statements regularly to make sure that there are no unauthorized transactions. If anything looks suspicious, contact your bank and all card issuers.
■When you contact companies, use numbers provided on the back of cards or statements

Now they are calling me on my cell . What they did was use a number from my area 408-462-6582.
