This is a comapany the handles payments for the county and state. I work for the county of dallas and one of my defendants just called me to tell me they have a charge on their bank account with this phone # on it. It is also listed as government payment. The payment was not received in our office so i called it to find out what happened to his payment. The person who answered referred to the company as hammer enterprises and gave me this info. She was also able to look up the payment and tell that this particular payment was made to out probation office. I called our
probation office and verified this with them. This is not a scam in this case.

Strange that you say this number is legitimate, when Whitepages states that this number belongs to Computer Accessory Supply Co!

Thank you! I was reading through these other comments and wracking my brain trying to think of what I could have spent $11.00 on, and I was sure it wasn't related to my car registration or anything at the DMV. And of course, seeing your post reminded me that I had made a reservation at Hamilton Pool.

Checked bank statement & saw this to be a little suspicious. It read  "government payments" back tracked & amount charged was same as when family & I had dinner at Denny's Restaurant. For some reason it's showing up as Government Payments. Thought I was going to have to report & close account.

I was not called by this number. The following information is my experience about an unknown charge on my credit card bill.

I too had a charge that I didn't recognize on my billing statement. I searched this number and was directed to a company called Hamer Enterprises out of McAllen, TX. I spoke with a live operator during their business hours (8-5 pm) and asked for an explanation. It turns out that they are a credit card and check processor for government entities (cities, counties, parishes, courts, etc.). I got hit with a charge for my vehicle registration renewal in Travis County, but I've read across different forums that they also process payments for other services: property taxes, reservation systems, court costs (fees & fines), probation payments, birth certificates, vital statistics; pretty much anything your local municipal or county government offers as a service. I had a long conversation with them about making their services more transparent, since "Government Payments" is pretty ambiguous to the average Joe. Supposedly they also send out emailed receipts, but that's if you make a payment through their online payment portals. When you make a payment in person, you might only have the receipt from your local government. In my experience, this was not a scam. Keep in mind though that any credit card can be compromised and used for fraudulent charges; but that can happen with any merchant, not just "Government Payments". That's why I still prefer to balance my checkbook on pen and paper. :)
