I have gotten repeated messages and phone calls from scam "IRS agents" from this phone number. Our phone number is listed under an Indian surname and "amazingly" all the calls, and messages, are from an IRS scam agents with an Indian last name and accent. The funny thing is we are Italian.  Their messages are threatening and their callers are persistent. My elderly mother in law (who does not live here) was terrified by one of their messages. I do not answer their questions. I do not identify myself or anyone who may or may not live here. I do ask them questions, which seems to derail their composure and ability to pitch their scam to me, and I always insist that they identify themselves to me right away. Today I told scam agent Turner to have a nice day and do not ever call here again. It has been a half hour since his call, so far so good.

Scam alert: Message from "Eric Foster" wiht american accent-  from IRS with threat to call back or face charges.

I got a call from this number in afternoon claiming to be IRS officer named Eric Foster n telling me to clear tax dues of or I ll get arrested. At end of call heard someone talking in hindi n understood this I a prank call.

Got a call from an IRS agent Eric Foster and threatening that the consequences will be bad. Seemed to have an Indian accent.

I received similar calls for 5-6 times. Any idea to trap those scammers? Let us give a try, if they are smart, we are smarter. If any technical experts can come up with any sound idea let us trap them.

obiviously he does not have an Indian accent, its the Mexican accent and he when I called back couple of times to curse him out, he cursed me out in spanish.

I got my call today i have had 3 so far. Agent Cooper will this stop.

I got a call last week from 979 705-5130 (Eric Foster) number and today from 202 808-3658 with a slightly different message both referring to IRS and time-sensitive. I would wait for a letter from IRS if there is any issue with my taxes or anything in general. But these fake callers should be caught and put in Jail as they are no less than criminal minded and trying to scare/threaten people and wasting people's time.

Just got contacted by IRS "Agent Cooper." Recorded message said that I need to contact them immediately. Something about lawyers and past due amounts and whatnot. Spanish accent. Stumbled/mispronounced a couple words in their recording.

Not attempting to call back. Not worth the time. Heads up on scam.

I received a call last night from 'Eric Foster' claiming from IRS, demanding that I or my attorney to call back. I could not understand what the threat was. I knew it was prank as I received similar calls in the past. The government should find a way to stop these 'idiots' harassing the innocent citizens. There should be appropriate punishments once they are caught.

I had a call from my client, reporting that IRS againt is going to arrest him soon.
The same name has been used.

When we left message, this agant called me (with little Indian accent).
Definetally something wrong.      

I just got a call from this number stating that if I do not return the call and neither does my attorney he wishes me luck as the situation badly unfolds.  What the dumbass didn't realize was that he hadn't even said my name or stated where he was calling from.  He just gave the threat to call back.  I knew it was a scam because of the lack of information given, with not stating who the call was from nor where he was calling from himself.  I swear these are idiots!   -_-    

same number called my cell today 4/11/14 and left same message about irs arresting me if i didn't call back. so they are still doing it. i thought the accent was spanish but obvious scam in any case. could have been a robo call.

Officer David Carter called on my office phone and at the same time Officer Garcia called on my husbands phone asking for me. Thanks for the posts I would have been concerned otherwise.

hey this guy called me 3 times today finally told him my friends smith & wesson had his money come get it

'officer eric foster' left a voicemail on our phone from wednesday. saying he was from the irs and when we received this meesage that we need to have an attorney or friend with us to deal with it. that it was time sensitive and that if we dont call soon he wishes us luck with the aftermath. never once referred to who he was calling for and he left a number. had to replay message several times as he spoke fast with an asian accent. lots of static noise which occured to me was odd. i called the number and it went to voicemail to a girl name kelly. i got suspicious and googled the number to find out it was a scam. i've reported this to the legit IRS and FTC

I recieved a call from mr copper with phone no.585 633 1814 new york stating I have I have issue in irs.he keeps calling my home phone several times a day i work night shift so i am awakened for this scam call.i have small children in school and so i could not shot off my phone .pls help...

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver’s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

“This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,” says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. “If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don’t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn’t the IRS calling.” Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim’s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it’s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver’s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here’s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue – if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don’t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you’ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you’ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their “FTC Complaint Assistant” at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.
