- Me| 6 repliesMean woman think it is a bill collector. Says she will come to my house my job and my family if I do not call her back. She calls all hours and has called my mother saying she will use any means to collect and she is within the law to keep calling. All she gives me is an account number and that I have to pay it but won't tell me what it is from. Worried she will show up at any time as she said. I dont even know what it is from. I had a credit card about 8 years ago with 1500 on it. that could be it but she says I owe her company 25,000 dollars and wont tell me why.

- SILIndian man trying to verify identity without identifying himself. Transferred me to SIMONE JONES, who also did the same thing. Very rude and trying to verify social security number over some thing "petty" on the credit report.

- SyzygyCaller did not accept taped invitation to leave a voice mail. I don't "pick up'' unfamiliar incoming numbers, so I missed out on the verbal abuse reported by others. What a dopey situation these unwanted phone intrusions! And the authorities seem helpless to do anything. Yikes.

- CadI don't amswer. Whendvrr I see an area code which commences with 800, 866 or 888, it's usually a debt collector or someone (something) posing as such. Our of curiousoty, I answered one time. It was a pre-recorded message saying that they had an urgent rsonal matter" to discuss with and to call such-n-such number ASAP. Whenever it's a matter that's "urgent" or "very important" or sim description, my radar tells me that it's someone who wants money. Maybe it's legit, maybe it's a scam. I just know that if they want money, it's SOL they will be because after I pay rent and the basic expenses, there isn't much leftover for anything else. I got the n0tion they were trying to say it was for student loan debts because someone left a robo msg from the same number wanting to discuss my "student loan debt". I know for a fact that all of my student loans were paid off in the early 1990's. So, I concluded it was a scammer wanting to "work me" for money and/or personal info.

- Texas Lass replies to MeThey can't do any of what she had said. Tell her/them you are on the do not call list and call her bluff! They can only call you between certain hours. I believe here in Texas it is t only until 9pm. ( don't quote)
Tell her to send them you will be waiting. What she is doing is against the law! Tell her you will be sending your attorney to them. This is an old tactic and people like her and her company have been sued on many ,many occasions don't be afraid. - post pending moderator approval
- kiareport the number to the bureau de bisnes. government and explain that they harass you and they can take care of that luck

- BigA replies to EricaI would love to take the time to correct you but since almost every single word you posted is wrong I don't want to spend the time so I am simply going to report your post.
- DonnaThis number calls so if can’t answer call back then they try to get your personal info, man you called me calling back from same number not gonna play with you. But we must verify….. well I must verify your not a con company so there. You see don’t believe or verify any information to anyone just because they present themselves as such and such. It’s the eta of being able to find a person’s personal info, home, work everything. Don’t believe everything someone try’s to run by you, and please if they say you will be arrested in x amount of time, just tell them I’m waiting!!! That’s the biggest red flag of bull there is. Scare tactics just to get some poor person who’s probably never been scammed before to panic. That’s how they win sometimes because some people panic and become their victim

- The Dude| 1 replyI returned the call and an automated voice informed me that the number was a debt collector. I have been receiving calls from this number for over 2 months now randomly, with no messages being at voicemail.
My credit is fine, and I have no outstanding debts that I am aware of. Seems like a scam- Caller: FAKE
- Call type: Debt collector
- BigA replies to The DudeProblem is easily solved.
You will need to send them a certified, return receipt debt validation (by law they have to go back to the original creditor to prove you owe the debt), cease and desist calling, or "not me" letter (this will be the best money that you have ever invested). Also send it first class mail in case no one will sign for it. Make a notation of that fact at the bottom of the letter. You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to. Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment. If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt, and we would all be the richer for it. Use these web sites to find an attorney in your state that will probably take the case on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket up front):

Everything else you need to know follows including at least two or more federal and state agencies where you should report their criminal activities.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it. You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified. If and when you get that letter you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.
First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file complaints with the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

Doubted it so I checked the number and found it on the list!
- Caller: "AT&T Direct"

- MikeHuntleton replies to Wiser| 2 repliesWell of course you did! Scammers post their numbers on phony websites to trick people, so it is no surprise to find it in a search result list. Although you seem to have purposely left out what that number was.
- BigA replies to MikeHuntleton| 1 replyI doubt that post is true because 5 days ago this was a debt collector.
