Since the callers don't have a number you can trace, why would you think they would care about the DNC list?

June 20th 2012 I've been getting these OUT OF AREA caller id's too AND 0 0 (zero zero) or -0 0...for several months now. I've spent LOTS of time with Time Warner (my digital phone provider) to no avail....They have put me on the DoNotCall registry (where I don't know) and I have coded *77 into my phone as directed - also without success.  If I answer the call there is no one on the other end and they hang up after about 30 seconds.  I get 3-4 calls a day now, just this morning they called twice in a row at 9:11 and 9:13.
What are the common denominators with all of us?  Are we all on digital phone? Do we all have separate answering machines (not subscribing to our phone providers answering system)? Has anyone had success with their phone company? This thread starts in 2010 so these nuisance people are STILL at it. Any phone computer geeks out there?

Why isn't this blog posted with the MOST RECENT first???

I was going to say that thread viewing mode is available to all but those with Java disabled, but the usual gadget at the top of thread pages has gone missing. There has been talk of site revision; maybe the orange road cones were forgotten.

Perhaps instead of making a public stink you could have asked Admin quietly about your interface problem.

Call abandonment is a fact of predictive dialer call center life, much as the FCC and FTC frown upon it. Dud calls would still be your experience if you had a black rotary phone from the Herbert Hoover era, the kind useful for inflicting blunt force trauma in Film Noir features.

} They have put me on the DoNotCall registry

Who are "they"? Only you can place your numbers on a state or federal DNC. Otherwise you request addition to an internal no-call list which must be kept by all sales callers. The true scammers, of course, don't bother with such niceties as legal compliance.

Here's an answer from Chris at Time Warner....These are automatic dialers just calling random numbers to test when you are at home then sell this information to telemarketers who call you when you are most likely to be home.  If you answer the phone they note that you are home. If you are on the do not call registry then telemarketers cannot legally call you. Time Warner cannot prevent "OUT OF AREA" (specifically no numeric phone number showing) caller ids from calling.

My question to Chris was - Why (and IF) do these calls only go to LAND lines - not to cell phones? Do the cell phone companies have the ability to filter out automatic dialers???  If they do why can't the land line companies do the same???????

When the DNC list came out I put my land line number on it....this was many years ago. (I hope we are not required to do it every year). A Time Warner rep. said they put my number again on the DNC list.
Again *77 doesn't work (for my phone number) for the calls that come in with the name "OUT OF AREA" with no number associated with it.

As of today - unless I didn't see this before - I can sort by most recent post.  Thank you to the powers that be. Have a nice day and may you and yours never be hounded by OUT OF AREA calls.

} DNC list ... I hope we are not required to do it every year

Registrations began as five year terms, but the federal DNC program proved so wildly popular that just as the fifth year rolled around, all registrations became permanent in February 2008.

) A Time Warner rep. said they put my number again on the DNC list.

That is not possible, as I tried to tell you before. See item #08 in the DNC Q&A. See also item #15 regarding expiration.

Panasonic DECT 6.0 phones (#KX-TG664n) will reject all call when no number is provided, such as "out of area"  calls.  Set set code #240 to "on".

You can download a set of instruction from the ww.panasonic.com.

It is an excellent call blocking phone system that is easy to program.  The only bad thing is that it can only block 30 specific phone numbers.  I filled my phone blocks in less then 3 months.

I have a GE DECT 6.0 phone system (5 handsets - cheapo, less than 1 year old) so your post sent me to the handbook to see if there was a BLOCK list available, however it is for numeric entries only. :-( I'll check the GE web site to see if there are other options, like your Panasonic, that are not mentioned on the paper handbook. Thanks!

Quote: " A Time Warner rep. said they put my number again on the DNC list."

Maybe he was referring to the Time Warner "in house" DNC list?

I'd brought that up three days ago in mentioning an "internal no-call list". Chenango didn't take the hint to clarify what "list" is in question, or else was misled by a less than articulate TW rep.
