The product to stop the harassment has been invented.  Another regular poster has found it and posts the details regularly.

Invest a hundred or so bucks and get a call blocker.   This is one:http://digitone.com/

There are other similar devices  as well as software you can use to block from specific numbers to whole area codes and a lot in between.   I use one and it works pretty well.

Two reasons why the call shows up as "Out of Area" It's coming from overseas or it's spoofed. Out of Area is just one of the tricks the frauds use to make people answer the phone. It's an old trick but they are trying their best to make sure that a vulnerable person falls for it and answers it. There are many other tricks the cowards use. I'd say ignore all their tricks. Now scammers who read this forum must be thinking why am I so harsh on them. Simple fact, if you can’t call people with your personal phone numbers, and talk straight, nobody in their right mind will answer you. Go on, depend on your computers, spoofing software, voip and try your best. If all your victims stopped answering you, you and your owners will fail and your failure is my pleasure. I don’t care if funds are put into your little accounts to help you buy voip. You scammers are scumbags that deserve a cold answer for your cold calls. You don’t deserve a dime you desperate criminals. Go get a legit job, and live like brave men and women. Stop hiding behind a computer.

I get out of area calls from abroad and also out of area calls from telemarketers, but there is a difference on the caller ID. Calls from abroad are noted as Follows :- " Out of Area      Country code+  number " But the telemarketer Calls " Out of Area       Out of area   "  Note the first a in the second  Out of area  is not a capital A. That's how I know it is a telemarketer and it is my choice whether I answer the call or not.

So here is how I handle calls from numbers I do not recognize:

If I am in a grumpy mood and feel like chewing someone out, I answer.

If I am not in such a mood, I ignore the call.

Pretty simple approach.  Some of the scammers seem to have removed me from their calling lists as the number of telemarketing calls I have been getting over the past year has gone down.

Gee, I hope I didn't hurt anyone feelings.  Snicker.

I've never answered Out of area calls but get half a dozen of them every single day. If I  do Menu #240, I get:

    Enter direct No.
    :_ _ _

    What do I enter?

(Obviously I can't block it the normal way because I have no phone no.)

I don't know why people try to politicize these fraudulent calls. I am sure these calls affect people of all colors, parties, religions, etc.

    Could be several possible reasons:

    1. They have nothing better to do with their time
    2. They beed a scapegoat to spout their venom at
    3. They mistakenly feel that everyone (on any site rhey can post on) share their opinions and political leanings
    4. They have small minds and can't figure out the difference
    5. They are just trying to stir things up and simply don't care if they trivialize such things as fraudulant calls
    6. They haven't a clue about what's going on and that the texts and spoofed numbers calling everyone hS nothing to do with political campaigns or this election year
    7. They are just plain clueless and uniformed that texts claiming everyone winning could originate overseas

Or any or all of the above, it's sad really that someone to feel rhe 'need' to do that sort of thing. Doesn't help anyone (including themselves) when they do.
