The economic collapse was caused by and directed by the DEMOCRATS! They passed the laws forcing banks to give home loans to those who did not qualify. They forced the banks by way of regulation to use SUB-prime mortgages - or get hit with HUGE FINES if they did not use these sub-prime loans.
The ENTIRE ECONOMIC MESS has been in the works going all the way back to CARTER!. The potential for collapse was discovered under CLINTON and ignored. It could have been prevented!
Everyone blames BUSH - but it STARTED a long time ago - with the FULL INTENT of COLLAPSING the Economy.
THE FED keeps printing money - which devalues the dollar - which resulted in HIGH GAS and FOOD PRICES. All orchestrated by the DEMOCRATS.
Its not the RICH, ITS not the Banks, its not the OIL COMPANIES - ITS THE DEMOCRATS!

Collection companies will pay pennies on the dollar for a debt and then contact the debtor and tell them that they owe them the full amount plus interest. They will take the debtor to court and sue them for the full amount plus interest and court costs when they know and everyone knows that they paid very very little for the actual defaulted debt.
You must be one of those rich people who have more money than they know what to do with. Those of us who are scraping by making minimum payments on our debts and wondering where the next meal will come from or if we'll have enough fuel to get to work till the next paycheck arrives, have not got the ability to pay all of our debts. When outrageous hospital and doctor bill plague us we fall deeper into debt not by choice but by the high prices charge by doctor's and hospitals. Insurance does not pay anything. So we are left with mountains of debt that there is not enough money to pay the debt off fast enough for the creditor. You owe us an apology! How dare you blame us for our debt. You need an unfortunate thing to happen to you so you are in debt like us! Then you would know what we are going through! I pay what I can every month. I live in an old camp trailer because I can't afford to buy a house until the mountains of medical bills are paid off. So, Apologize and then stuff a sock in it!
Well, I guess we're all in the same boat except "truth"!! I'm sorry about your situation cxt, I was homeless at one time. I'm just thankful now to have a place to live. Some people need to get off their high horse and take off their rose colored glasses. After he loses his job, if he has one, he'll understand. I still think it's a little punk writing tho!
Blame Blame Blame all day long everyone else is responsible for screwing up your lifes. Give me a break and old lady out of your disabled check that i and everyone that works hard in this country that provides for your daily living you dare bite the hand that feeds you deserve a slap in the face from the 80 yr old lady that works at the mcdonalds down my block. And the rest of you ignorant thiefing nimrods need to apoligize to yourselfs puffin up your chest like you have no shame if this was the speeding ticket or something that you were forced to pay i bet you would get that money then wouldn't you. The lmage of the country is now controled by megalomaniacs and self loathing sob stories. If you dont like the way things are DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!!! And half of you drive in very nice cars and have nice homes and are living paycheck to paycheck???????? But you would dare not downgrade to save face would you or make friends with ramen noodles and hotdogs not to look "low class". I have one tv i pay 8 dollars a month for netflix for my entertainment i carpool i turn off my lights when i leave i cut corners and yes MY BILLS ARE PAID!!!!!! how many of you gutless pricks can say the same. just go bury your face in the dirt and give up!!!!!
Well said. I don't think that we're saying that *all* people in debt are angels who want to pay it off, but most people are good. Most people do want to pay their debts and are struck by incidents which make falling behind inevitable. "Pay your damn bills." may be exactly what they *want* to do but cannot, and threats (illegal ones at that) do not make the situation any better.
Guess what? I'm a witch too!! And just watch your back. Curses are a comin!! LOL Now, don't that sound as stupid as your jibberish??? Just grow up. l bet you're a real nerd. No, I KNOW you're a real nerd. Maybe I'll come to your house and dig up one of your relatives, and kill your dog!!! As for my disability, I paid into this, and I deserve it. I didn't ask to be disabled. If you cross the street today and get hit by a car, you can thank me for it! Get off the computer and go to work!! I need my money!!! Get a life while you're at it!
Odd, I thought it was *de-regulation* and lax enforcement of any current regulation of the banks which allowed them to. I doubt there was anyone forcing a bank to create sub-prime loans.
And then there was the economic genius who decided to further monetize those loans by packaging them into credit-default swaps, and every investor and hedge-fund manager who wanted to make a quick buck fell upon them like ravening wolves.
And then *some* groups decided to bet against those sub-prime borrowers making their payments and took out *huge* insurance policies on those loans in case they did default.
So now there were even more sub-prime loans being made to make more credit-default swaps and more insurance policies...
Yes debt buyers buy debts for pennies but if a consumer contacts the creditor they can get settlements as low as 20% making it fair for both parties. The problem is the reputation of bill collectors is shuned by consumers so they wont negotiate thier own debt instead they will wait for a pretty comercial of a debt settlement agency or credit council to save them and get swindled into an even worse spiral.

The biggest problem on this thread so far (that has gotten so far away from the original post) is the blanket stereotyping. Apparently Truth believes that all of us posting with any sympathy for the woman who was harassed is a lazy debtor who refuses to pay their bills. I thought there were some of us with valid thoughts as well, but they went unanswered.
To M. Carter, I would advise that you not let that poster upset you any more. I doubt you are going to change his / her mind about anything.
Thanks Elizabeth. l'm done with him. Some people get on this high horse like they are better than everyone else, and you and I know that somewhere down the road, it's going to hit him hard. I'd really like to see it happen!! lol It didn't upset me at all. I understand there are people like that out there, I just have to say what I think. You know, I'm not a lazy person who just don't want to pay my bills. Just one of many that have come on hard times. It'll hit him!!

As it is obvious from the postings.. debt collectors are not looked upon kindly and for good reason. There are a few out there with no scruples, no morals and lack of common decency. I have had some experiences with debt collectors. Yes I was guilty of falling behind in paying bills many years ago. I got laid off and fell behind. The collectors called, okay that is the business they are in.. but it does NOT give them any right to harass, nor threaten me, nor show me disrespect over the phone. That type of disrespectful behavior is totally unacceptable. They are brave over the phone, but would not dare come to you in person and talk that way. Any debt collection agency that acts in an unprofessional manner, file a complaint, including with the company that has hired them. On a more recent experience because of a medical bill / charges I disputed, it was sent to collection.. even after written disputes. Well the collection agency was way out of line on how they talked to me. Well I took up the issue with the community/ local hospital and expressed my feelings on how this was handled. It also helped that I had friends and family who worked there and threatened to make a public issue of it with the local media. Well in the end I won and that company no longer does business with the hospital. But I stil miss the old days where I would have sought out this debt collector in person and see how he would act .. face to face... free trip to E.R... So Mr. Truth learn some manners, if possible

Once again for the final time hopefully you numb skulls can develop a common sense....
Your neighboor walks up to you and asks to barrow $500 you say ok no problem not descrimating thier race or backround or past you then explain that they have to sign your LEGAL AND BINDING CONTRACT that obligates them to YOUR terms such as 1. interest 2.monthly payments 3.consequences if contract broken. Then they sign and you both part ways. They pay for a few months and then fail on payments due to job loss, medical problems etc. Now in your contract you have the legal rights to enforce the laws to retrieve your money including interest but you dont you have a heart of course. but then more and more time go by still same story but yet you start to see that the phone is still on the car is still in the driveway the house is still being paid. Now you start to wonder where is that money coming from if they are unemployed hmmmm??? Now a year goes by still not a dime of good faith is given to you so you call them personally and they give you the sob story and you start to become angry because now it has been a year and not even a dollar has came back to you starting to get a little ridiculous right?? Of course it is so you start to get a little different in your tone because you cant believe a year has gone by and yet everything is still paid on their end but nothing to you.So then you do some research and find out that they HAVE been working again and has had the ability to show some efforts to repay now you are just pissed off at this point. You call again and then they start with excuses and you know that they are not true because of the research that you have seen and now you confront them saying you have been working this whole time paying other bills and neglecting me!! Ohhh now its considered "harrassment" right??? pffttttt you personally at that point would not give a damn what my situation in life was who i paid or what condition im in you would want your money now and with all excuses aside and yes your anger would show.
Do you get this story because its a day to day reality put your self in the lenders shoes and walk the walk tough guy

We shouldn't be fighting over these things. All this does is serve as a distraction to keep us too busy to notice where the real problem is.This plays right into their hands. The people who are in the top 4% control almost ALL of the money. With that money they can continue to buy influence and lobby our lawmakers to pass even more laws to shift even more of the same their way. Google A.L.E.C. &AFP[Americans For Prosperity]-they sponsor the tea party-see what corporations are fronting that, and dig deep. That info is an eye opener, and tptb don't like folks like us to know so they are busy 'scrubbing' it up. Point is no one making less than 500,000 per -is immune ,no one should be smug self righteous and judgmental about someone elses' financial situation. If you haven't been affected by now ,in this economy, you will be.Guaranteed.Unless people stop voting against their own economic self interest and wake up to whats really going on instead of getting their news from Fox etc..its a dirty game theyre playing, and theyre playing to win.If they do it will be a disaster-for everyone. What I'm trying to say,is-Dont be hatin' on us.We're all really on the same side.Don't let them use you for a pawn.Open your eyes- dont play into it. As far as the 4% are concerned ,they dont give a rats *ss about any of us regardless of how loyal you were to them.We will all become 'those people' if we let our rights be taken.
