I got the difference between statue and statute. It's been the punch line of numerous posts on this forum for several years. But the point is PRA-- the scammers who are running one of the longest existing scams ever and STILL in business. Despite the judgment , despite all we do here --- they are still around.
    That's the main issue.
I'm not arguing about semantics. :-)

    Yes replies to TheOnlyKat
well if you want to sound like you know what you are talking about, using the correct terminology is best.  It is not hard to be correct, but very easy and lazy to not be correct.  Since everything here is written, then there is only one way to determine the intelligence of the poster.  The issue is not whether this company is still in business, but whether we are believable in the advice we give out.  Then and only then are the people we give advice to able to realize that we know what we are talking about.  At that point, they can decide to help themselves and also to file reports on these criminals.  When that happens, action will be taken because there will be so many complaints, that they will not be able to justify ignoring them.

why hasn't it happened already?!?! I remember getting really mean, intimidating calls from them in the late 90s. This is 2015. I saw a TV report on them and they played the threatening calls. It brought back memories. Same ole PRA, same lowlifes using the same techniques. People have sued I'm sure... and some of them have won... yet they keep springing up everywhere and are SO arrogant they haven't changed their name! It's like we are still around like a pile of garbage in the street, can't remove us! Really! There's got to be a way :-)

You are asking replies to TheOnlyKat
why.  Well why do good people die young?  Why do we have wars?  Why don't dogs live longer?  Why are some criminals allowed to keep doing what they are doing and others get thrown in the slammer?  Maybe you should ask your elected representatives why they allow these criminals to flourish.  Maybe you should ask Senator Chuck Shumer why he is so intent on keeping these criminals employed in his district.  After all, he is the one trying to keep Pioneer, which is just as bad as PRA in business (i.e. they lost their contract with the Dept of Ed and now he is trying to reverse that).  Coming here and asking why, and then complaining here does no good. Did you file a law suit against them?  Did you do anything proactive to put them out of business?  Did you file complaints against them?  It will take time, but an 83 million dollar verdict against them will have repercussions throughout the criminal DC businesses.  If more of those verdicts can be obtained, the better.

Do you want to know why they are still in business?  Because people are not doing what they should be doing and instead, just block the numbers when they should be sending out certified, return receipt cease and desist and validation letters.

***A company must be licensed in their state as well as the one they are trying to collect in if two different states are involved.

    Some Tips:
    *Keep all messages
*Take a picture of your Caller ID
*Keep any and all conversations recorded to your states recording laws, some require they be told, others do not. This can be transferred to a recording device.
*Keep a notebook handy for writing time, date, who you spoke with and what the conversation detailed.
*Check your SOL for your state as well.
*Attorneys need to be licensed as a DC to collect, all DC's must be licensed in their state as well as yours if different.
