Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

    Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
    (202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.

You can't be arrested for owing a debt, its a civil matter.. sounds like a extortion scammer to me anyway! ROT is to ask for a real address, ask for Proof of debt via the US mail and if provided a real address, you can send them a cease & desist letter via US certified mail. Scammers won't give you a real addy or business name.. or will provide phony info. Addy's can be checked by googling and also looking at the street view btw.

Your welcome.  Sometimes real agency's cross the FDCPA lines also. But knowing your rights is the first step in stopping the madness.  They too can be reported to the FTC and FCC.

It's been my understanding that a company needs either your authorization or a court order to remove funds from an account (unless the account is owned by the same company which controls your loan).

In any case I would contact your bank and remove all pre-authorized withdraws, enhance your account security and remove the entire check (or as much of it as you can) the moment it gets deposited into your account.

I just got the call and attempted call back. 866-737-9926 is the number it came from. They tell you to call 855-432-1072. I tried calling and got the recording of what sounded like someone who had a hard time reading the script, telling me I reached ACG Processing then only gave me the option to leave a message. Didn't.
Too bad. ..............He will be remembered.
    Caller: ACG Processing
    Call Type: Debt Collector
