Is telemarketing dying?

Is telemarketing dying? Do you think it will be around 5-7 years from now?

From the consumer perspective, it's annoying, full of scams, the products are more expensive (which is the result of using this marketing channel), and the consumer's choice is limited.

Will this industry finally die, please?

It is already dead. For all practical purposes, cold-calling is now exclusively a vector for scams and rip-offs. The world is divided into two groups: those who understand this already (including the scammers themselves) and those who haven't figured it out yet.

Every single call I get now from so called telemarketers are all scams. There has not been 1 legit call from a legit business in at least the past 5 years.

What?   Endless political, charity and fraudulent telemarketing calls don't count as "true telemarketing"?  How about the never-ending collection calls for people I don't even know?   On an average day I get three to  five robocalls from numbers I've blocked with a call management device.    Perhaps you enjoy the endless calls from predictive dialers and Indian "tele-what-evering" boiler rooms, but I don't.    I suspect others feel the same way because if it were not true, 800Notes would be a cyber ghost town.

Charity calls are all fraudulent. They collect the money and use it for themselves. They use the guilt process to get you to pay them but they are some of the biggest criminals in this world running their scam network under the disguise of charity. If you want to pay to charity, its better to pay them upfront, not to some third party scammers.

The spoofed calls continue cause they know we need the phone. I wonder if they own a landline or a cell phone as well and see how they feel when they get bombarded with calls day and night. If they are scared to give us their own phone numbers, just ignore their calls. Why pay attention to barking dogs?

It is only way for immigrant to work. I have no choice. They will say i will deport. Ok i need to make phone, Tank you bye.

Doing something illegal like scamming is a way for illegal immigrant to work as well. Are you one? Or is some criminal hiring you as a slave? Be honest or else you'll get deported asap and you'll go back to the hole that you came from. How about you stay in that hole, get tough to make sure the hole from which you popped up is fixed? If your politicians cant fix it, man up and do something for your own country and stop ripping off other people.

I think the ones who hire you to do their dirty work should get their citizenship revoked and sent to prison. They use you as slaves to make profits. People who were born here are treated like crap while the illegals are treated with everything. Land of oppurtunity attracts all sorts of pests.

Since you claim you can be deported it stands to reason that you are an illegel immigrant. If that is so, not only are you taxing our medical, educational, legal, housing and other municipal services, you have taken a job that annoys the hell out of most of us. Leeches like you should be tarred, feathered and sent back over the border with a trebuchet!

Years of not paying enough attention to the border let enough pests crawl in, even the dangerous ones. 11 something million illegals here thinking they'd help fix the economy while the millions of citizens born here are out of work. To fix the economy, the citizens who were born here should get their jobs back. Its time to get our priorities straight. If the land of oppurtunity wants to remain a land of oppurtunity, offshored jobs should be brought back, illegals should be deported, and jobs should be given only to people who follow the law, and scammers can screw themselves. Their own countries are screwed up and now they are trying to screw up the U.S.

I think "telemarketer" is being sarcastic and trying to make a tired joke. Apparently he's succeeded in bringing out some xenophobic/anti-immigrant feelings though.

How is anti-illegal immigrant, anti-immigrant? We need to stop being so politically correct. We are talking about scammers and people who do illegal things here and illegal immigration is "Illegal" Xenophobia is when you hate an entire people. I am talking about illegal immigrants and scammers. How would you feel if somebody invaded you home, ripped you off, and lived off your money that you worked hard to make? Exactly.

Lets do something better. Lets start pleasing them. How about we let more illegals in, arrange visas for the scammers overseas, invite them to our houses and put them in a cradle and feed them everyday? Or how about we start sending our checks to those that threaten us through the phone? Is that xenophobic?

I was once corrected myself by a woman who didn't approve of the phrase "illegal immigrant" and insisted  the proper phrase was "undocumented worker."    I said I thought an "undocumented worker" was someone who forgot their building pass going to work.   She was not amused.
