This number calls me 2 or 3 times a day. They always hang up. Unfortunately I cannot simply block 202 calls because I live in Washington DC, so most of my personal and business contacts have 202 area code numbers! - Walker replies to BubbaYour best defense still is the Caller ID. If you see a name you don't recognize, probably you should not pick up the call. If you do pick up the call, and a voice tells you to press a number, press nothing; hang up immediately! Good luck.
- Becareful replies to irritatedYes wait before you send item, these checks all appear legit and several banks have ok'd them but then a wek or so later the bank says check was stolen or forged and make you pay $4000.00 EVEN though they ok'd it. Many people have gotten stuck with this. Make sure the check has cleared no matter how long it takes.
- Herman in DCI live in area code 202 and almost never get a scam call from my homeland. Area 202 has such a small population when compared to the rest of the country, that lots of 202 appears to be assigned to cell phones and locations outside of DC like googlevoice.
Guess the scammers think that seeing a Washington, DC number pop-up on your caller id will somehow prompt you to show a little more respect when answering a call from your nation's capital.
My advise, hang the hell up on anyone from 202. If its not scams, it some dopey political robo-call! - mommascammedAnother number to add to the 202-470-5469 they told my mom to send money by way of western union
v6h8 - WalkerI volunteer with senior citizens, and they often ask me about calls with the area code "202" or the ID "Washington, D.C." Of course I tell them that these are bogus calls and not to answer them. But these are people who came up in a more innocent time, when the idea of a call from Washington, D.C., was considered something special. The best we can do is educate our senior friend and loved ones about spam and scam phone calls. They are the ones who will fall into the traps most readily.
- tired of these dirt bags!Another fake number (202) 697- 9205. Sounded Russian or Eastern. European saying he had over $10,000 for me tax free. I hung up and the dirt bag. I would like to hunt these people down and get rid of them for good.

Caller I.D. registers as 'Unassigned'. West African accented voice told me that I was under indictment and would be 'serviced'. I told him to stop on by, and I would 'service' HIM. - DCM5 replies to lone strangerYa... Lolz... And they milk the system too! lolz...
- DCM5 replies to Jennifer| 1 replyI would suggest a stop payment on that check, and then try and get your money back, or relay the fact that scammers took your cash to the police... Beyond that, there is nothing you can do except aviod it in the future.. If its too good to be true, it probably is.
