One of the big advantages of a call blocker is blocking political calls.   With the 2016 elections around the corner, the volume of (regrettably) legal campaign calls is going to skyrocket.   Since political callers seem not to spoof their numbers and use the same number on repeated calls, the blockers are especially effective against them.

These people are so annoying-take a lot of time out of my day as they call up to 10 times per week-called this morning asking for information to update their listing and when I declined due to the fact that I had answered the same exact questions the previous week, the caller waited about 15 minutes and called back from a different number, this time stating that she and her sister were moving up here for work and were interested in an apartment.  I said you sound like the exact person I just spoke to and she gave me some bs answer so I was therefore forced to waste my time giving her information just in case she was an actual potential renter-she gave me a cell phone # as well-both phone numbers were out of service-this is extremely frustrating and there is nothing that can be done to stop them from calling another 5 times this week!

    Um ...

You did not read any of the previous posts for understanding, did you?
28 pages of posts, recommending or suggesting various call blockers, to defend one's self against repeated unwanted calls ... but you did not read them.
Instead, you just HAD to post "there is nothing that can be done", rather than post your complaint in the proper Number Thread.  In fact, you did note even identify "these people".

    Arrrrgh!

Thanks, I am overwhelmed still by what is going on with the sale and purchase of houses that I thought I was but my state of mind is not all there right now.

Sorry about that. I am usually more up on things.

    No problem, I was just pointing out that in this thread it is OK, but they don't want to see recommendations for specific call blockers or phones all over.  That is also why Nomo gets blocked. It got out of hand with people actually advertising specific venders models and prices.  since you are fairly new here, I wouldn't expect you to know that, so I mentioned something, guess i should have been more eloquent in my description.  :-}}

Thanks, I try not to be specific unless someone else mentions they have the same one or specifically asks and even then, I try not to promote unless I have to. Otherwise, it becomes a sales pitch and good grief, we get enough of them on the phone!!!

I really appreciate your advice. You are a wealth of information on many threads.

I have to tell you, I am closing on the NC house on Wednesday. They are emailing me the forms and when I receive them tomorrow, will go to my bank and do a wire transfer. I waited till the last minute to do it and it was not what I wanted to do but had to go with my best option. I am still waiting for the clear to close date on my NY house from the buyers bank but I had to do what I did. I couldn't lose the NC house and the alternatives would have cost me more in the long run. My buyers are only a couple of documents from clear to close (banks in NY have become so scrutinizing, it is horrendous), the banks do not care that peoples' lives are at stake and often in limbo. So I am taking a chance but I had to do it.

Thanks for thinking of me again. I will let you know as soon as the mortgage finally goes through in NY for my buyers. Then I just will replace the money and continue with the newest phase of my life.

Well have an Amaretto to for me also!  Certainly something to celebrate, and an even bigger party when you get the money from New York.

Had a Panasonic phone that blocked 30 numbers. Scrapped it for one that blocks up to 250 numbers. What's really sweet is that entire area codes can be blocked. In fact there are states, like Florida, where so many robo calls originate from that I ended up blocking every area code in the state. BTW you can also white list numbers so specific numbers will get through.

I really enjoy the silence of scammers being blocked when they call.

I started using NOMO in January of 2014. Yes, initially it missed some calls but is now at about 95% for me. It can only get better as more people sign up for the service (the more ears on the system, the more numbers are caught and the quicker they get into the database). Also, the technology of this system is constantly improving. Some telemarketers were using some tricks to try and foil the system some months back, but I have noticed this bug has been fixed.
An ideal countermeasures system for fighting telemarketers is a combination of NOMO and a stand-alone blocker (either an external hardware blocking device, such as the Teleblocker, or a computer application that works with certain carriers digital phone systems such as VoiceZone Enhanced for the Time Warner home phone.

I will buy -- for both of you. Leaving for vacay soon and this is the least I can do for the kind souls I have met on this site.
Got a cruise offer today from a scammer, no thanks I bought my own legit cruise vacay. The scammers can go prey on the 20 people that have still not heard about them. Ha ha.....
