If you just opened the email then deleted it you should be fine, if you went to the link they sent and opened that then you need to run your anti-virus software. most of the time the damage is done when opening links and down loading. just reading the email and then deleting will not hurt you almost all the time. I would suggest you get Spybot or something similar to run as well, that software tracts any spyware or cookies.

I have anywhere from 5 to 15 of this junk in my spam folder every day. It was a little unnerving at first because I have a vindictive ex-wife out there who is still angry after 12 years post divorce! After seeing this thread; I don't think there is anything to worry about. Just hit "delete" and forget about it!

It is also a variation on a very old type of scam.  Back in 2000 I started getting emails from a "reputation" web site notifying me that someone was making inquiries about me on their site.  Of course, if I joined the site (for a hefty fee) I would have access to the details, and the ability to respond.

    Yeah, right.

    Exactly!

I've seen a few of those (and these so called background check variations) show up in my suspect mail folder. Laughed and then deleted them!!!

(I found it interesting that the IP as well as the domain at the end if the email address always pointed to some foreign nation!)

Read some of the posts above yours.

There isn't anyone degrading or defaming you.  Someone is trying to scam you.  If you open the email you'll see that the sender knows that "someone" ran a back ground check on you.  If you pay money to join the site they'll give you details, but the don't tell what those details are.

If you do all that you'll probably discover that some bank ran a credit report on you so they could mail you yet another credit card offer.

Delete the email.  Do not reply to it.
