Any software alternative to PhoneTray?
- jmI was able to fix the problem of ptf having to wait at least two rings before answering by a registry edit of the modem driver.
- JohnI use CallClerk. I've been using it for the last two years and it's worked very well for me.
- Larry E. McFadden replies to Sir BedevereYes, me too Phone tray Pro was working great then stopped so far support hasn't gotten back to me!
- keyboardsI've been using PTP (currently up to v2.6.0) since 2013 and I really don't mind it having to 'phone home'. I've looked through my calls database and a good 40% of the blocked calls are blocked by the online database lookup.
Yes, sometimes it takes a while (couple of days) for their tech team to get back to me, but they always have gotten back to me, even when it was a 'DUH' (hardware problem - nut loose on the mouse) issue. - JulieI paid for phone tray and it didn't work about half the time. It just didn't notice an incoming call. Teck support hasn't returned my e-mail, other than their canned steps...which solved the problem for about an hour.
- JulieDo not purchase this product. It's a rip-off.
- BackTracerVZ56K is by far the best I have ever used. It requires a 46K FAX modem.
- Bill| 3 repliesTech support has been very good in the past few years. Now, I cannot get a response at all. What gives??
- Roy replies to Bill| 1 replyI cannot reach them either. I bought and ran the pro version for many years on a spare laptop running XP. Now it says it has to connect to the co server (phone home) to authenticate, but it refuses to connect, saying "error accessing phonetray server, underlying connection closed, could not establish trust relationship for ssl/tls secure channel." Could be that XP is so old that it won't play with newfangled servers. I don't know.
They will not respond to me no matter what I try. Maybe because I opted out of the ongoing support, which they say you don't have to get.
I suspect something has happened, like the founder and creator, one Mike Rakita, has passed away. There is an Olga Rakita named on the blogs. This could be one of the pitfalls of a family company. Or, they are out of money and have no staff to assist customers, but they aren't telling.
There is an obit for RAKITA, Michael Myer on December 16, 2018 in the Montreal Gazette. But no Olga mentioned there. Who knows? But they seem to have gone silent. - Roy replies to RoyForgot to mention. It runs on my Win 7 machine fine. No issue connecting to authenticate.
- Roy replies to BillI believe the founder/architect of phonetray has gone to the next world, and I think no one is handling support.
- Doris-Boris| 1 replyI’ve never heard of this software.
I’d personally suggest checking with your phone provider to see if they have any options.
For example my cell provider has a free app that helps filter out a lot of scammy calls. There’s a few extra options that require payment, but I’m not using those. - BigA replies to Doris-BorisInteresting how this thread has suddenly gained posts since it has been dormant for over six months. I have to wonder why it was dredged up? I also have to wonder why comments were made?

Because of The new kids on the Block :) - WayneDoes anyone remember how to "unblock" a number that you have previously "blocked"? Thanks in advance.
